Nail Art Tutorial: Holographic Rainbow Leopard Konadicure

Rainbow Leopard Konadicure SwatchRainbow Brite, eat your heart out! This Holographic Rainbow Leopard Konadicure is meant to steal the show. All Eyez on Me, 2Pac! (Yeah, that’s right. I just put Rainbow Brite and 2Pac in the same paragraph.)

I’ve always loved rainbows, but lately I’m obsessed with them. (It’s Clarins 230’s fault!)

From the second I saw SayAnythingBr00ke’s Lisa Frank inspired nail tutorial on YouTube, I knew I had to try it.

Check out more swatches, and see what I came up with following her directions.

While I’ll link to her video in my post, I’m also including my own tutorial with photos and step-by-step instructions in case it helps someone.

If you haven’t already tried this, now’s as good a time as any! Continue reading

Polish War: China Glaze Fairy Dust vs. Out The Door Northern Lights Silver Hologram Top Coat Swatches & Review

China Glaze Fairy Dust & Out The Door Northern Lights Silver Hologram Top Coat smallerAfter viewing my Haul of Shame post, a reader (Lois) asked me about 2 holographic top coats and how they compared.

Since I own both, I pitted them together in a nail-polish war.

Both competitors entered the ring pumped and looking like they meant business. The crowd cheered on their favorite and booed the other.

One polish, Essie Nude Beach, had to be escorted out of the building by The Polish Police for streaking during the event. And some other rowdy fans (including Color Club Pure Energy) were warned to maintain decorum lest they suffer the same fate.

But…back to the stars of the show!

Out The Door Northern Lights Hologram Top Coat (Silver) gave China Glaze Fairy Dust the stink eye as it shook its cap.

China Glaze Fairy Dust heckled, “There’s a reason why you’re called Out The Door – that’s where you’ll be heading with your tail between your legs!”

Nail-polish blood was shed! So who came out on top? Continue reading

Haul of Shame: Nail Polish & Nail Art

Nail Polish Haul, Nail Art & Fauxnad Image PlateWelcome to the first ‘Haul of Shame’ post!

I’ve got a pretty special post coming soon (hint: it’s nail-polish related). So excited to share it with you, and I’ve been working hard on it for a couple of days now.

Today I’m putting up a haul post since one of our readers, Kee, showed some interest in seeing these type of posts. Please let me know if you’d like this to be a regular feature or not.

Haul of Shame posts will be where we air our dirty makeup laundry. We’ll show the good, the bad, the cheap, and the pricey. You never know what you might see. But hopefully you’ll like it. And hopefully we won’t look too much like makeup addicts (even though we totally are!).

If there’s something you see that you’d like to know more about or that you’d like to see a review on, please leave a comment to let us know. Continue reading

Nail Art: Silver Swirl Konadicure Using MAC Jade Dragon, China Glaze Millennium & Konad Image Plate m63

MAC Jade Dragon Swatches KonadicureSome surprises aren’t welcome. Case in point: when I was in grade school, my mom once packed my lunch – it was sardines on top of spaghetti and melted processed cheese. Yuck!

Thankfully when I went on my latest rendezvous with Konad nail art, my surprise was a pleasant one. And it didn’t smell like fish. Or cheese.

I didn’t expect to fall in love with this Silver Swirl Konadicure featuring MAC Jade Dragon, China Glaze Millennium, and the Konad Image Plate m63. But, oh, I did!

Sure, it’s kinda tacky, but I dig it because it looks futuristic. Also, it brightened up MAC Jade Dragon.

What do you think about this Konadicure? Too messy? Too plain? Continue reading

China Glaze Ahoy! Swatches & Review

China Glaze Ahoy SwatchesArr, ye landlubbers! ‘Tis buried treasure yonder where X marks the spot! Put down ye bottle o’ rum, ‘n’ pick up a bottle of China Glaze Ahoy!

(I really wanted to continue with the pirate theme for the rest of this post, but decided against it. Yes, you’re welcome.)

Pink isn’t my first choice for nail polish, so when I love and recommend a pink, you know that it’s something special.

Ahoy! comes from the China Glaze Anchors Away Collection, which has a nautical theme that’s been trendy for a while.

Of course my eyes went straight to the green (as usual), but then I heard so many people raving about the pink that I had to check it out for myself. Glad I did – it’s a beautiful glass-fleck polish. Bet you’ll love it, too! Continue reading

Nail Art: Shooting Star Konadicure Using OPI Last Friday Night & Bundle Monster Image Plate BM21

Bundle Monster BM21 Image PlateBy itself, OPI Last Friday Night is a fun sheer glitter nail polish to wear that looks best when layered. But, you know me, I just had to kick it up a notch with some nail art!

In this Shooting Star Konadicure, I used the Bundle Monster Image Plate BM21, so perhaps I should’ve called this a Fauxnadicure.

Really love how this one turned out – reminds me of festive birthday wrapping paper for a kid’s present. It’s colorful, has a busy pattern, and yeah, it’s loaded with glitter!

For this little experiment, I decided not to use the Konad Special nail polishes and opted to try China Glaze Millennium for the star design. This proved to be a good call – worked just as well as the Konad special polishes because Millennium is a 1-coater.

Does this manicure remind you of your birthday parties when you were a child, too? Think there’s too much going on? Prefer pure minimalism on your nails instead? Let me know!

OPI Last Friday Night Swatches & Review

OPI Last Friday Night SwatchesLast Friday Night is my favorite Katy Perry song. She sings about a stranger in her bed, smelling like a mini bar, dancing on tabletops, skinny dipping in the dark, breaking the law, a broken chandelier, and more mischief.

And when I first caught wind of the OPI Katy Perry Collection, I had heart palpitations!

If you’re a nailphile like I am, you know that Katy Perry is one of the few celebrities out there who embraces wild nails. (I love a person who’s fearless with their polish – wear what you want whenever you want. Amen, sister!)

After trying out OPI Black Shatter, I definitely had to test out OPI Last Friday Night! It’s so gorgeous in the bottle, but yeah, it’s really sheer, which has turned a lot of people off.

I’m not a fan of most sheer polishes, so I was determined to achieve the bottle color on my nails. And I think I was successful. Do you agree? Want to know the simple trick I used? (Hint: It involves a China Glaze nail polish!) Continue reading
