Essie Haute Tub Swatches & Review

Essie Haute Tub Swatches & Review

Essie Haute Tub from the Winter 2015 Collection is a jet black with amethyst shimmer, and when I look at it, the first thing that comes to mind is an alley cat.

No, cats aren’t purple. (Too bad, right?) The reason why this popped into my head is because when I was little, my brother used to play with marbles at school (before it was banned after a reckless kid decided to throw marbles at someone’s head and a new school policy went into effect because marbles were considered ‘weapons.’).

My brother borrowed a few marbles from his friends, and with perhaps just three small marbles, he was so good at the recess competitions that he ended up winning an entire collection of them – several huge tubs full of marbles!

I was so proud of him because he won a wide variety of marbles at the games including boulders that looked like pearls, gigantic ones they called ‘King Kong,’ Beach Balls, Salt & Pepper, and many more, including the kind that I think were called Alley Cats or Cat’s Eyes.

I specifically remember him having a large version of this obsidian-like marble with a rich-purple middle. Although it wasn’t the rarest one in his collection, it caught my attention because it looked like the type of toy that had a mysterious story buried in its history.

P.S. My friends and I played with marbles when it was popular. My brother gave me a few of his least valuable ones, and for good reason. Haha, I was terrible at the game, and yes, I lost them all. Apparently he was the marble champion, and that was A-okay with me, because I loved cheering him onto victory. 🙂 You don’t always have to be the star to be happy!

Holiday Beauty Collaboration

Holiday Beauty Collaboration

Today’s St. Nicholas Day, and I’d like to welcome you to the dynamic trio! 😉

This is my first official collaboration, and I’m thrilled to show you what we each came up with for holiday-inspired looks!

We didn’t set too many restrictions because we wanted to keep it open-ended and let our creativity drive the results.

I am honoured to be able to collaborate with Jessica and Rob because both of them have inspired me for a long time, and I admire how they stay true to themselves.

For our Holiday Beauty Collaboration:

  • Jessica expertly blended several colours for an eye look that makes you look twice
  • Rob created a festive manicure with a cute candy-cane accent nail
  • I did freehand nail-art featuring an elf suit, Christmas braid, Santa suit, and Mrs. Claus suit

In this blog post, you’ll see more photos of the Christmas nail art I painted, as well as the exact colours I used.

Also, be sure to check out Jessica’s and Rob’s Instagram accounts to see more photos of their artistry at work! 🙂

What I Wore on Hallowe’en: Ghost Nail Art

Ghost Nail Art Nails

I hope that you all had a spooktacular Hallowe’en yesterday and experimented with playful nail art!

This is what I painted freehand and sported on Hallowe’en: Ghost Nail Art featuring these four nail polishes:

Ever since last year, I’ve been wanting to paint this design, so I probably will be wearing it for the next few days.

It was really fast and easy to do – makes me smile when I see the little ghosts with their arms up in the air trying their best to scare me. Hehe, nope – not menacing at all!

It’ll be sad when the ghosts meet their maker and the acetone-remover-soaked cotton ball approaches them, sealing their fate.

Now that I think about it, maybe that’s why they’re screaming. They aren’t trying to frighten me. They’re pleading, “Noooooo! Don’t remove us from your nails!” Yeah – it’s totally normal to have these thoughts running through your head. (Hehe – nailphiles understand!) 😉

P.S. If you’re Canadian, be sure to check out my Hard Candy Nail-Polish Giveaway for 12 shades! (Submit your entry by November 13, 2015 at 11:59 pm EST.)

Essie Frock ‘n Roll Swatches & Review

Essie Frock N Roll Swatches & Review

Several weeks ago when the weather started getting cooler and my cuticles got drier, I sported Essie Frock ‘n Roll from the Fall 2015 Collection.

Described in Essie’s official press release, Frock ‘n Roll is a shimmery espresso. That’s spot on because it’s a dark and brooding shade that has subtle sparkle.

In the bottle, it looks like a ‘frock star,’ but on the nails, it’s more like an edgy socialite.

Essie at New York Fashion Week: Day 4

Jenny Packham Essie NYFW Butler Please

It’s time for another ‘nails during New York Fashion Week’ post! 🙂

For this instalment of Essie at New York Fashion Week: Day 4, we get a glimpse into the Diane Von Furstenberg and Jenny Packham shows.

The eye looks at the Diane Von Furstenberg show were mystical and mermaid-like with a youthful aura, so the nails didn’t compete and were kept looking clean and neutral. (When I was in my early twenties, I remember wearing bright turquoise and aquatic eye shadows. Still love the playful accent, and maybe I’ll give it a go again.)

For Jenny Packham’s show, cobalt made a statement on the nails, which made me smile. I love a bold manicure, and I appreciated how the blue contrasted against the clothing instead of blending in.

Check out the rest of this post to see more amazing photos courtesy of Essie. (At the end, there’s also a photo of Rita Remark, Essie’s Global Lead Educator, who I was honoured to meet at World MasterCard Fashion Week in Toronto previously.)

Essie at New York Fashion Week: Day 3

Brooks Brothers Zac Posen SS16 Essie NYFW

New York Fashion Week (NYFW) is when nailphiles like me get excited because not only do you gain colour inspiration from talented fashion designers, but you can see upcoming nail, style, and beauty trends.

You probably visit Swatch And Learn because you’re a fellow beauty fan, and, if you’re like me, you’ll enjoy seeing the nail polishes and other beauty products we love in action. Witnessing how all the elements play a salient role to pull an entire ensemble together truly makes runway shows art in motion.

Since some of you enjoyed my posts on the blog and social media about NYFW Days 1 and 2, I’m going to post more.

Today’s post features looks from Essie New York Fashion Week Day 3!

My favourite look from Day 3 is the one above, which was from the Brooks Brothers by Zac Posen show.

I’m a fan of combining red (or orange) and blue because they’re strong shades that create a powerful manicure. (Together, they make me think of Superwoman! I’ve been known to combine the shades in my fashion, too, like in my Instagram photo here.)

Check out the rest of this blog post for additional photos from the Alexander Wang, Brooks Brothers by Zac Posen, and Altuzarra shows. (All photos in this post are courtesy of Essie.)
