OPI Hello Kitty Collection

OPI Hello Kitty Collection

The OPI Hello Kitty Collection harnesses the power of a well-beloved feline and a nail-polish leader!

Twelve limited-edition colours are set to launch in January 2016, but I’m sure that many of you will want them right ‘meow’!

From purr-fect pinks to bad-kitty bold hues, there’s a colour that will speak to most nail-polish enthusiasts. Additionally, the cute pattern adorning the caps will make these nail polishes appeal to Hello Kitty collectors from the young to the young at heart.

I’m a fan of Hello Kitty. (Hehe, remember that at one point, I even had a Hello Kitty phone case that I blogged about in 2013!) Also, I’m a cat lover in general. Plug those into the equation, and combine polish into the mix – it spells nail love at first sight! (My eyes have turned to hearts.)

While I was designing the two collages, the standout colours that caught my eye first were Charmmy & Sugar, Spoken from the Heart, Starry-Eyed for Dear Daniel, My Twin Mimmy, and My Pal Joey.

Which are your top picks?

I can’t wait to see them in person, share my reviews and swatches with you, and gush about the collection together! Check back again for in-depth posts on these colours. (Edit: Click on the links further down in this post for the separate reviews and swatches of each colour in this collection.)

Since there are plenty of pinks in the OPI Hello Kitty Collection, I will probably end up doing some Valentine’s Day nail art with a few in February. Good timing!

In the meantime, see the rest of this blog post for the official press release and promotional pictures provided to me by PR.

Nail Art: Snowflake Nails

Snowflake Nail Art

Snowflakes are Mother Nature’s dainty crystals that fall from the heavens above. They have the power to distract us from our frozen toes and sniffling nose with their miraculous artistry. Whether they form on windows or along tree branches, they’re always picturesque and as unique as a fingerprint.

Many scientists claim that no two snowflakes are alike, and, as a child, I remember spending many recesses examining them and trying to prove the academics wrong. However, it was to no avail – it was still fun to try, though!

Paying homage to one of nature’s masterpieces, I created traditional Snowflake Nail Art that’s seasonally appropriate!

To achieve this wintry look, I used the following:

  • MoYou Festive Collection Plate #6
  • MoYou White Knight (white stamping nail polish)
  • OPI Give Me Space (blue)

I lived my entire life in Canada, so I’ve had many years to appreciate the beauty of snow. It’s interesting to hear from people who have never seen snow in person. They are missing out on so many experiences like seeing the ground sparkle when the sunlight hits it and hearing the satisfying ‘crunch crunch crunch‘ under your boots as you walk across a snowy field that’s otherwise so still and quiet, you think you’re looking at a photographic masterpiece.

They’re also missing out on the joy of shovelling the snow manually! (Haha, don’t worry – I was being sarcastic about that last part. I’m not a fan of that!)

When I was a kid, I used to sometimes help my dad and brother to shovel the driveway. They would pull out the huge metal shovels from the garage, and the only shovel left was a small plastic one with a wooden handle for me. (Clearly, they were the ‘workhorses,’ and I was My Little Pony.)

While I tried my hardest to shovel as much as I could, I was not as strong physically as my father and brother. I’d huff and puff after two scoops, while they moved along quickly without a hiccup. (It didn’t help that I also tried to pile up my shovel with enough snow that would equal two little Marys!)

Eventually, my dad used to smile and tell me that they were managing okay and that he didn’t want me to hurt myself. (He must’ve heard my grunts as I swung the shovel with all my might to throw the snow onto the pile on the lawn!)

Shovelling snow was never my thing, so despite my best intentions, I always ended up back in the warmth of our house with my mom. I’d feel guilty about just watching, though, so I would make hot chocolate and bring out piping-hot mugs to them, which they appreciated.

Holiday Beauty Collaboration

Holiday Beauty Collaboration

Today’s St. Nicholas Day, and I’d like to welcome you to the dynamic trio! 😉

This is my first official collaboration, and I’m thrilled to show you what we each came up with for holiday-inspired looks!

We didn’t set too many restrictions because we wanted to keep it open-ended and let our creativity drive the results.

I am honoured to be able to collaborate with Jessica and Rob because both of them have inspired me for a long time, and I admire how they stay true to themselves.

For our Holiday Beauty Collaboration:

  • Jessica expertly blended several colours for an eye look that makes you look twice
  • Rob created a festive manicure with a cute candy-cane accent nail
  • I did freehand nail-art featuring an elf suit, Christmas braid, Santa suit, and Mrs. Claus suit

In this blog post, you’ll see more photos of the Christmas nail art I painted, as well as the exact colours I used.

Also, be sure to check out Jessica’s and Rob’s Instagram accounts to see more photos of their artistry at work! 🙂

OPI Starlight Collection Swatches, Bottle Shots & Surprises

OPI Starlight Collection

In exactly 3.865 seconds, this nail-polish addict tore open the OPI-branded cardboard box that arrived in the mail!

The package included not only the entire 18 nail polishes in the OPI Starlight Collection for Holiday 2015, but also some exciting and quite unexpected goodies! (Hint: Swarovski jewelry and something to appeal to my sweet tooth.)

Although I pulled a Tazmanian Devil when ripping open the box out of sheer enthusiasm, I made sure to photograph the contents, so that we can share the fun experience together!

You may have already seen or purchased some of these shades, but for those who are still on the fence or who are trying to whittle down the choices, I’m hoping that you’ll find my photos (and nailphile comments) to be helpful and/or entertaining.

Today’s post features individual bottle shots, so you can see each colour better, as well as swatches to give you a good idea of the saturation and finish. Additionally, I show you the beautiful collector’s box that they came in.

Get comfy, grab your bag of popcorn, and enjoy the show!

Let’s open up this oyster, and admire the pearl!

Side note: I feel bad for oysters who are bred solely to create pearls. They are purposely irritated, however, it’s inspiring how they make the best of the situation and turn the grain of sand into a treasure to behold. We can extract a deep life philosophy here of oysters teaching humans how to deal with problems.

It makes me think about when I sometimes get an annoying grain of sand in my shoe. Imagine if I left it there instead of dumping it out. Maybe after many years, it would turn into a pearl. Haha, I’m just being silly! (Don’t worry, the nail-polish fumes haven’t gone to my head. Well…at least I don’t think so.)

(Note: No oysters were harmed in the creation of this blog post. The only thing that may suffer is a nailphile’s wallet. Hehe!)

OPI Amore at the Grand Canal Swatches & Review

OPI Amore at the Grand Canal Swatches & Review

As we get closer to Christmas, I’m trying to wear more festive red nail polishes. It’s not that I don’t like reds other times of the year. It’s just that greens capture my heart. 😉

I’ve received numerous compliments about OPI Amore at the Grand Canal from the Venice Collection, and even though it’s a simple red creme nail polish, it just shows you that sometimes, simplicity is appreciated!

In the next little while, I plan to bring you some freehand nail art. I’m going to try painting some fun designs, so stay tuned.

OPI Starlight Collection for Holiday 2015

OPI Starlight Collection 2015

You’ve probably already seen or purchased the OPI Starlight Collection, which includes this holiday’s new shades. However, since I received the official promotional images from PR yesterday, I thought I’d share it on here, in case my fellow nail enthusiasts find it helpful. 🙂

The collection includes 18 limited-edition colours with various finishes (cremes, metallics, and glitters), so the OPI Starlight Collection has something for everyone.

For their displays, they’ve divided up the OPI Starlight Collection into three groups, and I’m digging the artwork on each, which shows a futuristic look on one side and a fun-night-out look on the other.

If you’ve already worn some of these colours, which are your top picks?

From the promotional images alone, the ones I’m most excited to wear and review are Cosmo with a Twist, Give Me Space, Infraredy to Glow, and Two Wrongs Don’t Make a Meteorite!

(The image above and the image of all the bottles lined up were both collages that I put together. Other than that, the rest are all the official images from PR. If I receive the official press release directly from PR, I’ll edit this post to include it, so you can enjoy the colour story.)

P.S. Today is the LAST DAY to enter my Hard Candy Giveaway for your chance to win 12 nail polishes. It’s open to Canadians until 11:59 pm EST tonight.

What I Wore on Hallowe’en: Ghost Nail Art

Ghost Nail Art Nails

I hope that you all had a spooktacular Hallowe’en yesterday and experimented with playful nail art!

This is what I painted freehand and sported on Hallowe’en: Ghost Nail Art featuring these four nail polishes:

Ever since last year, I’ve been wanting to paint this design, so I probably will be wearing it for the next few days.

It was really fast and easy to do – makes me smile when I see the little ghosts with their arms up in the air trying their best to scare me. Hehe, nope – not menacing at all!

It’ll be sad when the ghosts meet their maker and the acetone-remover-soaked cotton ball approaches them, sealing their fate.

Now that I think about it, maybe that’s why they’re screaming. They aren’t trying to frighten me. They’re pleading, “Noooooo! Don’t remove us from your nails!” Yeah – it’s totally normal to have these thoughts running through your head. (Hehe – nailphiles understand!) 😉

P.S. If you’re Canadian, be sure to check out my Hard Candy Nail-Polish Giveaway for 12 shades! (Submit your entry by November 13, 2015 at 11:59 pm EST.)
