China Glaze Queen B Swatches & Review

China Glaze Queen B Swatches & ReviewChina Glaze Queen B from the Autumn Nights Collection is a blue-purple creme nail polish that’s simple, but dramatic. I can see this as a great base for nail art!

The first thing that sprung to mind when I heard the name Queen B was a queen bee.

Isn’t it so weird how she’s fed by all her workers and is just responsible for having baby bees? (I wonder if she’s fanned with a leaf and fed grapes while having her little nails painted. Hehe!)

Thinking about bees also made me sadly remember the Colony Collapse Disorder, where worker bees go missing. It’s pretty scary because bees are needed to pollinate crops including plants that provide fruits and vegetables for our consumption. So if they disappear, that could spell disaster for our food supply!

I’ve read that some pesticides are the reason why a lot of honeybees are dying, and that it may play a role in how some bees leave the hive and either forget their way back to the hive or how to communicate to other bees where to locate the nectar.

Bees play such an important role in our ecosystem, so it’s scary to see them get hit with such a major problem.

I hope that scientists can figure out a viable solution to, at least, slow down the process.

OPI DS Pewter Swatches & Review

OPI DS Pewter Swatches & ReviewOPI DS Pewter is one of the two newest colours to be added to the OPI Designer Series line.

You’ll remember seeing it making a brief appearance in the Quick Look post about this and OPI DS Lapis.

OPI DS Pewter is part of OPI DS Raw Granite, which has the trendy texture that I still can’t seem to get enough of.

This dark grey with silver glitter has an industrial, steam-punk-esque feel to it, which I really like!

Nail Art: Chalkboard Nails or Back to School Nails

Chalkboard Nails Nail Art Back to SchoolI always feel the excitement when September rolls around, so this time, I decided to try my hand at my first ever Chalkboard Nails (or Back to School Nails)!

Ever since I first laid eyes on the Bundle Monster Holiday Collection Nail Stamping Image Plates, I knew I had to use BM-H23 for chalkboard nail art.

Although I smudged the design, and not all the white lines are crisp, I still fell in love with this look. To me, it really does look like chalk on a board. (And remember my philosophy? Happiness is more important than perfection!) Plus how can you not smile when you see globes, the Einstein’s Theory of Relativity (E=mc²), a glass beaker, and a mathematical equation on your nails? 😉

(Check out my photos of my thumb. You’ll be able to see more of the design. I have small fingers, so the entire design didn’t show up on the other 4 nails. But, the good news is that you get enough of the pattern showing up well!)

The green base is the lovely Rescue Beauty Lounge Recycle, the white polish is Konad Special Nail Polish White, and to give the entire design that authentic chalkboard feel, I finished off the look with the OPI Matte Top Coat.

It’s been several years since I graduated from university with my Psychology Honours B.A., but I still get mistaken for being a student. (It’s always funny when I tell people my age, and I witness the look of surprise creep up on their face.)

For all of you who are going back to school today, I hope that the day goes smoothly and that you have a great time with your friends (and that you meet new kindred spirits)!

Although studying isn’t as fun as nail polish, put in the effort and try your best to do well. Your education is important, and even if it seems very stressful, stick to it. All your hardships and experiences in school really do help to shape you and prepare you for life later on, not just with book smarts.

Enjoy working on your projects, doing presentations for class, checking out the cutie who sits 2 desks in front of you, and getting involved with extracurricular activities to keep you well-rounded.

Adorn Landlocked Mermaid Swatches & Review

Adorn Landlocked Mermaid Swatches & ReviewI hope that you’re all having a great Labour Day! This morning, I’ll be working a bit on the blog – (I have a lot of reviews on OPI and China Glaze polishes coming up!)

Later on, I’ll be hanging out with my boyfriend for some much-needed relaxation. What will you be up to?

Today, I have the great pleasure of showcasing another Adorn nail polish, – Adorn Landlocked Mermaid, which is the second lacquer from them that I’ve tried.

There’s something very mesmerizing about this polish. It reflects the light in such a way that the shimmer dances like fairies who’ve had just a tad too much spiked woodland punch.

It looks like a shimmery waterfall from a fairytale!

Shimmer Jasmine Swatches & Review (Layered Over Adorn Age of Aquarius)

Shimmer Jasmine Swatches & ReviewWhile I was wearing Adorn Age of Aquarius not long ago, I caught sight of my bottle of Shimmer Jasmine on my computer desk.

It only took exactly 2.646785868 seconds after it winked at me to realize the 2 nail polishes were a match made in nail-polish heaven.

Shortly after I sported this look, I swear I saw the two bottles of nail polish canoodling on the sofa. (Yeah, Jasmine is such a flirt, apparently! And just where are those hands going, Age of Aquarius? Put them where I can see ’em!) 😉

I really loved wearing this dynamic duo together – they really complement each other! Continue reading

OPI More than a Glimmer Swatches & Review (Layered Over OPI Pink-ing of You, Also From the OPI Pink of Hearts 2013 Set)

OPI More than a Glimmer Swatches & ReviewYou’ll remember that on Monday, I showed you OPI Pink-ing of You, which is part of the OPI Pink of Hearts 2013 Set that will be available in September and October. (Click here to see the official press release.)

Today, I want to show you the other full-size nail polish you’ll get in the same Breast Cancer Awareness set – OPI More than a Glimmer.

It’s such a girly, fun glitterbomb, and in this post, I’ve shown it layered over OPI Pink-ing of You.

However, since I realize that you may want to wear it solo, I have quick swatches of it with 3 coats as well. They help show off the base colour more.

If you really love this glitter (and want to support a good cause), head to Trade Secrets or wherever else you can find it because OPI More than a Glimmer is a limited-edition matte nail polish. Once it’s gone, it could be gone for good!

Adorn Age of Aquarius Swatches & Review

Adorn Age of Aquarius Swatches & ReviewAdorn is a new nail-polish company based in Orange County, California.

I’ve never tried any lacquers from them, so when they contacted me and asked if I’d be interested in reviewing some of their polishes, I was curious like a Cheshire Cat!

Today, I have for you my take on Adorn Age of Aquarius, which is a turquoise. It looks more blue in my photos, but in person, there’s definitely a touch of green in it to make it a true turquoise. (My flash photos are slightly more accurate than those in natural light.)

Would I recommend this nail polish? There’s only one way to find out! 😉
