Nail Art Tutorial: Football Nails

Football Nails Nail Art Tutorial & PicturesWow, last night’s Super Bowl game was crazy intense just like Beyonce’s Half Time performance! (And it was really cool to see Destiny’s Child reunite!)

With the lights going out in the second half and the close scores in the final minutes, I was on the edge of my seat!

Touch dowwwnnnn! (Sorry, I just had to say that somewhere in this post!)

This was the first Super Bowl that I ever watched the majority of, and boy did I pick a good one! This was really exciting, even for someone like me who doesn’t follow football.

On game day, I was sporting these Football Nails! I rushed to whip them up, and they’re so simple, anyone can recreate them. Plus you only need 3 different colours. It’s a great look for someone who doesn’t have patience to do more a more complicated nail design.

So…the Baltimore Ravens won! I’m neither a fan of the Ravens or the San Francisco 49ers, so I knew I’d be happy for whoever won. But I know that a lot of people were really disappointed because the 49ers were the favourites. (In a way, though, I’m a little glad that the Ravens won just because the 49ers won more Super Bowls. It’s nice when the underdog wins.)

Smorgasbord Sundays & Nail Art: The Super Bowl & San Francisco 49ers Nails

Super Bowl San Francisco 49ers Nails Nail ArtHappy Sunday, everyone!

Okay, so normally my Smorgasbord Sundays blog posts are not beauty-related. However, because the Super Bowl is today and I did San Francisco 49ers Nails, I thought it was more timely to show you my manicure today instead of Monday.

(Hope you won’t mind seeing more nail polish than expected!) 😉

Also, if you’re not a fan of the San Francisco 49ers, you may want to check out the skittle nail art I did yesterday with the Baltimore Ravens team colours!

I haven’t ‘picked sides’ as to which team I want to win the Super Bowl.

I don’t follow the sport, but there’s so much excitement surrounding the Super Bowl every year that even this non-football fan wants to experience that. Sooo…I’ll be watching the game (and the commercials)! Oh yeah, and the dip with chips I plan to stuff my face with will also make the game more interesting. 😉

Nail Art: Super Bowl Baltimore Ravens Nails

Super Bowl Nails Nail Art Baltimore Ravens Will you be watching the Super Bowl on Sunday?

Despite not following football or being a huge fan of it, I’ll still catch the Super Bowl. Why? It’s such a glorified sports moment, and there’s an undeniable excitement surrounding it.

Are you rooting for the Baltimore Ravens or the San Francisco 49ers?

I’ll be happy for whichever team wins since I’m not enough of a fan of either to lean one way or the other.

However, I thought it would be fun to whip up a simple skittle manicure for some Super Bowl Baltimore Ravens Nails! The Baltimore Ravens’ team colours are right up my alley.

In this look, I used Deborah Lippmann Fade to Black, Topshop Glimmer (gold), and Topshop Late Show (purple).

If you want to create Baltimore Ravens nail art with a twist, you may want to add white to the mix in the form of dots. I think that would be a fun addition to this plain manicure.

Edit: For the San Francisco 49ers fans out there, I did a nail-art look with their team colours, too. Click here to see my San Francisco 49ers nail art.

Holiday & Winter Nail Art Ideas

Winter & Holiday Nail Art Ideas & TutorialsThis year I haven’t had time to do Christmas nail-art tutorials prior to the big day.

But, since I know that a lot of nailphiles will be busting out the lacquer, I’ve put together this post on Holiday & Winter Nail Art Ideas featuring some looks I’ve done in the past.

In this post, I’ve also linked each manicure to its corresponding nail-art tutorial, which features step-by-step written instructions and photos. All, except for one, have tutorials. Plus within some of the posts are links to reviews of the individual nail polishes.

Hope that you’ll come up with something great for your holiday manicure! (I actually have been juggling a few designs in my head, but I still haven’t decided which to paint. I’ll be sure to share my Christmas manicure sometime after December 25th.)

Nail Art: Blue Flocked Nails (Plus My Experience & Application Tips)

Blue Flocked Nails Nail Art SwatchesDon’t rub your eyes. Yes, my nails in today’s post are indeed fuzzy! These are Blue Flocked Nails that made me feel like I was the Cookie Monster…or Fuzzy Wuzzy (the bear)!

You saw me try this look most recently on a guy for fun, except I used pink flocking powder in that case.

To achieve this extreme nail art, I used blue flocking powder and secured it to my natural nails with a regular (and beautiful) nail polish (Orly Royal Navy).

I wore this as a full manicure and went about my normal routine to test it out.

It’s definitely not a practical manicure. This is best suited for a special event like Hallowe’en when you need something ‘out there’ and don’t require it to last as long as nail polish. When worn for such an occasion, I think it’s a really cool novelty!

After ‘surviving’ a full day of wearing this, I’m really excited to share my experience with you. This was like nothing I’ve ever tried before, and I’ve never heard many people talk about it, either.

Come see more swatches of this fuzzy manicure, and allow me to tell you all about what it was like to wear flocked nails!

Nail Art: Flocked Manicure & Caviar Manicure…on a MAN!

Caviar Nails Flocked Nails on a ManThere have been two extreme nail trends that I’ve wanted to try, but found them very intimidating: the Flocked Manicure and the Caviar Manicure.

Flocked nails have a crazy monster-fur texture. It’s almost like having turf on your nails. (If you use grass-green flocking powder, you could totally do some really fun golf nail art! The sport is a snooze to me, but I could get down with a nail design.)

And, I’m pretty sure that by now, every nailphile knows about Caviar nails. It consists of tiny little beads that completely cover your nails.

So, since I was a General Tao chicken *bawk bawk bawk*, what did I do? I turned one of my wild stallion male friends into a guinea pig, of course! 😉

You may recognize his thumb. Yup, he’s the same dude who I did freehand sheep nail art on in a previous blog post.

He went from a firm “No!” to an “Okay, but I want you to choose which colours to use!” within literally a minute of my convincing, pleading, and sticking out of my lower lip for maximum pouting power. Haha! (This is the only time I resort to such infantile tactics. It’s probably also the only time that they’d work. Plus my friend doesn’t take himself too seriously. The dude’s cool like that.)

My friend’s bravery encouraged me to try the flocked manicure on myself. When I do, I’ll share swatches of it on here as well as a detailed review plus application tips in a separate post. Expect that soon-ish. (I won’t be sporting a caviar manicure, though.)

Edit: I ended up trying a flocked manicure. Click here to see my blue flocked nails!

Nail Art: Red Fiend Nails

Red Fiend Nails Nail Art SwatchesToday’s Red Fiend Nails feature China Glaze Bend Over Backwards (red), Whirled Away (black and white), and Get Carried Away (black, silver, and red), all of which are from the incredible new Cirque du Soleil Collection.

You may know that red isn’t my favourite nail colour (although I sometimes crave it), but when it’s combined with black and white, I’m crazy about it!

I was inspired by the artistry, fun costumes, and unpredictability of the Cirque du Soleil shows when I designed this simple look. (I’ve never been to their live show, but I’ve seen some of their specials on TV. Brilliance can’t even begin to describe the talent in that production!)

The Cirque du Soleil polishes in this post were lent to me by the same friend I mentioned in the previous two posts. (She’s saving me a lot of money right now, haha, but I do plan on buying a few bottles to add to my collection! Can’t be a complete polish mooch, right?) 😉

This design includes Bend Over Backwards (red), Whirled Away (black and white), and Get Carried Away (black, silver, and red).

Out of the nail-art designs I’ve done so far with the Cirque du Soleil shades, I think this is my favourite because it’s the most cohesive.

Also, a lot of people accent the ring finger, but I chose to accent the middle finger with black. Thought it was appropriate. 😉

P.S. At the end of this post, I’ll provide mini reviews for each Cirque du Soleil polish.
