Nicole by OPI Modern Family Collection Press Release & Promo Pictures

Wow! The Nicole by OPI Modern Family Collection contains 14 (count ’em) nail polishes!

I’m really happy to see that the Modern Family Collection contains a wide variety of colours and finishes. (I whipped up a simple little collage so you could see all the colours together.)

Which stood out to me? Am I Making Myself Claire? (lilac), She’s Lily Something (star glitter), Stand by Your Manny (periwinkle), Alex by the Books (seafoam green), and Candid Cameron (teal)!

I haven’t seen any in person yet, but from online swatches that have been popping up, they look great!

(Hey, interesting how after I’ve been mentioning recently that there aren’t many periwinkle polishes, I’ve noticed that more new collections actually contain a periwinkle! YAYYYY!)

So…do you watch Modern Family? I’ll admit it – I’ve never seen a single episode! Am I the only odd one out?

Although I haven’t been following anything regularly, I’ve been checking out Parks & Recreation, The Soup, The Colbert Report, American Idol, and The Carrie Diaries when I do turn on the TV.

As you can tell, I prefer to watch light-hearted stuff. It distracts from the bad things you hear about in the news like gruesome discoveries of dismembered bodies. *Shivers*

Watching the news makes me feel uncomfortable and sad. Sure, I like to be ‘in the loop’ of the world around me, but to a certain degree. I dislike reports of accidents, deaths, and violence. Sadly, I keep up more with entertainment news than actual news…

I’m also not really into medical dramas or murder mysteries (unless it’s a classic gem like re-runs of Columbo! Love Peter Falk and his series!).

But…back to the polish, right? Which of these colours interest you the most? And, for those of you who watch Modern Family, which is the ‘punniest’ polish name you like?

China Glaze Mosaic Madness Swatches & Review The China Glaze Glitz Bitz ‘n Pieces Collection officially comes out in February, and my oh my does it look like such a fun concept!

It was hard to pick which one to try first (yeah, Nailphile Problems!). Eventually, I decided on layering China Glaze Mosaic Madness over a fun yellow – Nicole by OPI Hit the Lights from the Selena Gomez Collection.

As you know, I love bold, in-your-face manicures, so I was going for a high-contrast look here.

The layering possibilities are endless. You could do a tone-on-tone look or even put a metallic underneath for two completely different effects.

The Best of 2012

The Best of 2012 Another year is coming to a close! Are you ready to see what 2013 brings?

What you probably didn’t know is that in 2012, I faced a lot of stressful issues in my personal life that caused me great emotional pain.

Blogging and interacting with you helped me push through it instead of giving up.

If you’ve been following Swatch And Learn for even a little while, I hope it’s evident that blogging and interacting with readers bring me a lot of happiness. Yes, it is hard work and very challenging to keep up, but I’m not the type of person who’s afraid of pulling up my sleeves to get things done.

Thank you for listening to what I think and for valuing my opinion, post after post and tweet after tweet. That is a big compliment!

Most of all, thank you, dear readers, for being encouraging and kind as well as for cracking the much-needed joke.

You remind me that genuinely good people are still out there. I needed that reminder, and you gave it to me in spades!

So, while in this post I list the best of 2012 in terms of nail polish, nail art, etc., I want you to know that Swatch And Learn readers are really the best of 2012!

Nicole by OPI Inner Sparkle Swatches & Review What’s my ‘lazy nailphile’ trick for sprucing up a tired manicure? Slap on a coat of crazy glitter!

However, sometimes I’m in the mood for glitter right off the bat, and I go to town!

The latter was the case here. This manicure was a major pick-me-up, and I couldn’t get enough of it!

This is Nicole by OPI Inner Sparkle (from the Selena Gomez Collection coming to stores in 2013) layered over China Glaze Prey Tell (from the On Safari Collection that’s been out for a while.)

My first instinct was to layer it over a black, but I wanted to give it a slight twist, so I went for the vampy burgundy.

Nicole by OPI Stars at Night Swatches & Review Some people think that bar glitter makes their nails look hairy. Well, hun bun, if you want to see hairy (or furry), you should check out a flocking manicure I did not long ago.

So, in comparison, Nicole by OPI Stars at Night is the tame version of hairy nails. 😉

This silver-holographic polish is part of the Selena Gomez Collection coming out in January 2013!

P.S. I never knew how many Selena Gomez fans are out there. After blogging about this collection, I found that out on Twitter! Wow, and they seem like a very loyal fan base, too!

Nail Art: Vertical Stripe Nails

Vertical Stripe Nails Nail Art Swatches Do you ever have the itch to do nail art, but you can’t think of a design? It happened to me a couple of days ago.

I didn’t want to do something intricate due to time constraints, and I wasn’t up for dealing with the messiness of nail stamping.

These Vertical Stripe Nails helped satisfy the craving for nail art without taking up much time or concentration.

Ever since doing Jack Skellington nail art, I knew that I’d have to do a manicure with vertical stripes on all the nails because I think it’s a really fun look.

(It’s a bonus that it’s also incredibly easy to do! It’s okay if all the lines aren’t perfectly straight or of the same thickness. It puts your signature on the manicure!)

Here I used two shades from the Nicole by OPI Selena Gomez Collection coming out in January 2013 – Hit the Lights (yellow) and Spring Break (pink).

This manicure is a reminder to be true to yourself and to always show your stripes! 😉
