Essie Spun in Luxe Swatches & Review

Essie Spun in Luxe Swatches & ReviewEssie Spun in Luxe from the Cashmere Matte Collection that just came out this month is so dark, it could almost pass as squid ink. However, there are blue nuances that keep it from looking jet black.

To the naked eye, on my nails it looked pretty close to black and the only way I was able to tell that it wasn’t black was when I put my hands next to something that was.

Also, there’s subtle, fine blue shimmer throughout. That combined with the satin-like, semi-matte finish made this polish unique in my collection.

Although you could wear a ridge-filling base coat to keep the look smooth, I wore this without any base coat because I wanted to see how noticeable nail ridges would poke through.

(In case you didn’t know, I have some ridges, and while I could obviously buff them out, I choose to leave them alone because, unless I’m wearing a high-shine chrome that accentuates them by leaps and bounds, ridges don’t normally bother me anymore. There was a time when I felt insecure about them, but I’m glad I’ve gotten over it. I’m not on a mission to create the ultimate ‘perfect’ manicures. I’m on a mission to create manicures that make me happy. Mission: Accomplished!)

Quick Look: Essie Cashmere Matte Collection Swatches, Bottle Shots & Press Release

Essie Cashmere Matte CollectionLast week, I came home to some surprise nail mail with the Essie Cashmere Matte Collection!

The Essie Cashmere Matte Collection has a satin-like texture that’s smooth, matte, and really cool.

But what made me sit up and take note was that I wasn’t expecting them to have shimmer. At first, I thought it was my camera’s flash reflecting off the glass of the bottles, but it wasn’t.

Some of these polishes have a beautiful subtle shimmer in the bottle.

In this post, you’ll see swatches, bottle shots, and the official press release. As usual, when I wear them as full manicures, I’ll be sure to review some in-depth on here.

Essie Fall in Line Swatches & Review

Essie Fall in Line Swatches & ReviewEssie Fall in Line from the Fall 2014 Collection is a dusty, tranquil green with a few drops of grey mixed in.

Depending on the settings of the screen you’re viewing this on, it may look blue, but, in person, it definitely leans more on the green side than the blue.

I just couldn’t get enough of it, and I wore it for several days straight. And when I removed it, I considered wearing it for a consecutive manicure! *Gasp* That pretty much never happens.

But then I looked over at the other nail polishes smiling up at me with hopeful eyes. How could I neglect them? 😉

Essie Take It Outside Swatches & Review

Essie Take It Outside Swatches & ReviewEssie Take It Outside is part of the Fall 2014 Collection, which I showed you the press release of recently.

I don’t usually wear softer shades like this, but I do enjoy switching things up. Life is too short to not enjoy expressing yourself with colour, and I love to sport everything and anything! 🙂

This is a very sophisticated and easy-to-wear shade that I feel many will love because it’s appropriate to wear in even conservative offices, yet it’s not boring because the taupe seems to have just a tinge of purple. (I think that’s what gives it some slight edginess!)

Essie Fall 2014 Collection Press Release

Essie Fall 2014 CollectionAlthough the Essie Fall 2014 Collection came out in August, I still want to share the press release because it contains information about each colour that some readers may find useful.

Also, in this press release, I’ve included a little note from Essie Weingarten (the Founder and Global Creative Director of Essie), as well a photo of her.

It’s always exciting to see the face behind the brand and to know the creative process behind a project. It breathes more meaning and helps you to appreciate the finished result that much more.

Plus PR sent me a photo of a cool linear ombre nail-art design created using colours from the Essie Fall 2014 Collection, so I’ve included that (and the instructions for how to replicate it) as well!

Which are your top picks from this collection, and have you already got your hands on some of these? If so, which ones?

Essie Mint Candy Apple Swatches & Review

Essie Mint Candy Apple Swatches & ReviewEssie Mint Candy Apple was one of the minty green nail polishes that I recently compared in another post.

Today, I’d like to show it in further detail. It’s quite a popular shade, especially in the spring and summer.

And, surprisingly, it doesn’t give me a bad case of Lobster Hands, so it’s a mint green I can actually wear! (Hurrrrraaaayyy!)

Shades like this are really fresh-looking and make your nails look so clean and crisp.

Have you ever eaten a candy apple before? I haven’t!

When I was little, my parents refused to buy me candy apples at carnivals because they said it was bad for my teeth with all that sugar. (No, they weren’t dentists…hehe! And oddly enough, they bought me cotton candy without blinking an eye. Sometimes trying to figure parents out can make your mind spin its wheels!) 😉

Reader Request: Minty Green Nail-Polish Comparison Swatches & Photos

Mint Green Nail Polish Swatches & Comparison PhotosRecently when I reviewed Topshop Gone Fishing, one of my readers (Alex), asked if I could do a Minty Green Nail-Polish Comparison post with specific hues.

Since I was also curious about how different or similar the shades were (as well as a couple of others), I was happy to oblige. Hope that you’ll find this mint green nail-polish comparison helpful!

The nail polishes I compared were Topshop Gone Fishing, Duri Summer Rain, China Glaze Re-Fresh Mint, Essie Mint Candy Apple, OPI Gargantuan Green Grape, and China Glaze For Audrey. (I’ve reviewed some of those polishes in-depth in separate posts. Find links later in this post.)

If you would like me to do more comparison posts like this in the future, please let me know specifically which polishes you’re interested in seeing.

I can’t promise that I’ll fulfill all reader requests. It depends on if I already have the polishes and if I have time. (I work very hard on my blog after my full-time job and on the weekends, so time can be really tight, especially when I squeeze blogging inbetween my social life and freelance-work schedules.)

That being said, I will pick a few requests to do! I have a pack of blank nail wheels that I haven’t been using much. It’s time to put them to work! *Cracks whip* 😉

P.S. You may remember that I’ve said before how I don’t swatch nail polish on my nails. It’s not my style. I wear full manicures and then take photos while I’m wearing them. This is how I really enjoy polish. I only use the term ‘swatch’ because it’s the familiar lingo. Well, the only time I’m comfortable with actual swatching is on nail wheels for comparison posts like this or to show you layering experiments. I hope that you’ll understand my reasoning. I love polish, and if I ever start swatching on my own nails, it may kill my enthusiasm. I don’t want that to happen!)
