Nail Art Tutorial: Prom Nails

Prom Nails Nail Art TutorialBack in high school, a large group of my friends and I rented a limo and went to the prom together.

It was a night that I still look back on and smile about because, as corny as it sounds, my experience was like that out of a teen movie. I was really living in the moment, enjoying every second of it!

I got my hair done, did my own makeup, and wore a blue/purple duochrome dress that had a corset top with a large layered, tulle, Cinderella-style bottom. Yes, I felt like a princess!

Interesting thing: Before I went shopping for my prom dress, I actually drew a colourful sketch of my dream prom gown. The very first place I went shopping at with my best friend, I struck gold. Literally, I found a dress that matched my drawing exactly, and it was hung on a hanger that was close to the ceiling of the store! (That never happens, so I knew it was destined to come home with me.) I half expected to see angels floating down and playing harps when I caught sight of it! My dad bought me the gown for my birthday (which was an atypical splurge), and I was ecstatic!

I danced spastic in my crazy high heels that night, slow-danced with the guys, took some photos, and felt so pampered in general. Up until that point, I had never been to such an elegant venue or treated to such attentive service from waiters! It really added to the magical experience, and being able to share it all with close friends made it even more amazing!

It was really amazing to see how great the guys looked! I couldn’t believe how they passed as gentlemen. A guy in a suit or tuxedo instantly makes you forget that just days ago, he was in the school hallway cracking jokes about flatulence! Haha!

Recently, Nicole by OPI teamed up with Prom Canada and invited me to participate in an exclusive nail challenge, which you’ll remember me blogging about yesterday.

(You can still VOTE FOR ME, by going to that Facebook link and clicking “Like” on my manicure photo! Please vote and help me to spread the word! Thank you so much!)

We were asked to choose 3 shades from a pre-selected list of Nicole by OPI nail polishes. I chose Nicole by OPI Dream Maker (shimmery pink), Nicole by OPI Please Red-cycle (creme red), and Nicole by OPI Candy is Dandy (textured pink glitter).

I came up with a look that features a prom couple and some hearts.

Come see my Prom Nail Art Tutorial with step-by-step written instructions and photos to show you how you can achieve the same look!

(If you try it out, please share your manicure with me. I’d love to see your creativity at work!)

Bundle Monster 2013 Nail Plate Collection Revealed! Press Release

Bundle Monster 2013 Nail Plate Collection Create Your Own Stamping Image ContestI took today off work for an appointment, but as fate would have it, I fell under the weather on Thursday, so now I’m not feeling so great. (At least after my appointment, I’ll have the full day and weekend to recuperate!)

It must have been the extreme temperature fluctuations where the mornings and evenings are cool, but the afternoons are hot that really affected me.

Haha, it also didn’t help that a man behind me on the bus kept sneezing up a storm. (Remember, sneeze into your sleeve. It’s the courteous thing to do!)

In any case, I hope that all of you are feeling well!

So, for today’s post, I wanted to keep it short and sweet while I recover.

Back in February, Bundle Monster had a Create Your Own Stamping Image Contest where fans submitted their ideas!

I think it was a really neat contest because it let nail fans have their voices heard, and since several winners were chosen, it made a lot of dreams come true. I love it when companies reach out to ‘the little guy’ and make them feel important because they are important!

Since September 3rd, Bundle Monster has been gradually revealing a new image plate from their brand new Bundle Monster 2013 Nail Plate Collection on their social media as little fun teasers. (The full set will be released in mid-to-the-end of September.)

Nail Art: Chalkboard Nails or Back to School Nails

Chalkboard Nails Nail Art Back to SchoolI always feel the excitement when September rolls around, so this time, I decided to try my hand at my first ever Chalkboard Nails (or Back to School Nails)!

Ever since I first laid eyes on the Bundle Monster Holiday Collection Nail Stamping Image Plates, I knew I had to use BM-H23 for chalkboard nail art.

Although I smudged the design, and not all the white lines are crisp, I still fell in love with this look. To me, it really does look like chalk on a board. (And remember my philosophy? Happiness is more important than perfection!) Plus how can you not smile when you see globes, the Einstein’s Theory of Relativity (E=mc²), a glass beaker, and a mathematical equation on your nails? 😉

(Check out my photos of my thumb. You’ll be able to see more of the design. I have small fingers, so the entire design didn’t show up on the other 4 nails. But, the good news is that you get enough of the pattern showing up well!)

The green base is the lovely Rescue Beauty Lounge Recycle, the white polish is Konad Special Nail Polish White, and to give the entire design that authentic chalkboard feel, I finished off the look with the OPI Matte Top Coat.

It’s been several years since I graduated from university with my Psychology Honours B.A., but I still get mistaken for being a student. (It’s always funny when I tell people my age, and I witness the look of surprise creep up on their face.)

For all of you who are going back to school today, I hope that the day goes smoothly and that you have a great time with your friends (and that you meet new kindred spirits)!

Although studying isn’t as fun as nail polish, put in the effort and try your best to do well. Your education is important, and even if it seems very stressful, stick to it. All your hardships and experiences in school really do help to shape you and prepare you for life later on, not just with book smarts.

Enjoy working on your projects, doing presentations for class, checking out the cutie who sits 2 desks in front of you, and getting involved with extracurricular activities to keep you well-rounded.

Nail Art: Owl Nails

Owl Nails Nail Art PicturesYou’ll remember that not long ago, I bought the brand new Bundle Monster image plate set. The two owl designs made it a must-have for me.

To make China Glaze Elephant Walk more my style, I turned them into Owl Nails with the help of Bundle Monster Image Plate BM-309.

After these cuties were on my nails, I fell in love with the manicure. And I appreciated the grey as the base colour.

I painted the tips of my nails black with China Glaze Liquid Leather so that the owls would have something to stand on.

If you look really closely at the cute owl on my middle finger, you’ll see that he’s a bit of a show-off. While all the others have their feet on the ground, he’s balancing himself on just one leg! 😉 What an attention-seeker!

Hehe, I also like how the owls look like they’re either wearing monocles or they have shiners!

Haul of Shame: Brand New 2012 Bundle Monster 25-Piece Set

New 2012 Bundle Monster 25 Piece Image Plate Set Review & PicturesNot long ago, I found out that there was a new 2012 Bundle Monster 25-Piece Set, which just dropped!

Well, you can bet your acetone that I leapt onto my computer to place an order.

Stamping image plates are the easy (and fast) way to do amazing nail art. Even if you don’t think you have an artistic bone in your body, trust me – try stamping image plates, and you’ll become a Polish Picasso in no time.

I placed my order on June 19 and received them on June 28. That’s not too bad considering that they were going from Hawaii to Canada. (Heck, if I was in Hawaii, I might just stay there and enjoy the weather and the scenery.) 😉

In this post, I’ll share photos of each plate so you can see all the unique designs offered. Hopefully it better helps you decide whether or not you ‘need’ this set.

Hehe, the second I saw the owl designs, it instantly became a must-have. 😉

Nail Art: Black & Yellow Konadicure (Using China Glaze Yellow Polka Dot Bikini & Bundle Monster Image Plate BM-208)

Yellow & Black Nails Nail Art SwatchesYesterday I flossed China Glaze Yellow Polka Dot Bikini on here, but if you read the post, you knew that I put something on top.

Well, this is what I did! 🙂 Of course, since it’s such an in-your-face, high-contrast manicure, I loved it!

Even though the yellow solo was flashy, I had to put it ‘over the top’ like Steven Tyler kept saying on American Idol this week. 😛

What do you think of this Black & Yellow Konadicure (or…BundleMonstericure)?

Does it make you think of that Black and Yellow song? Or does it remind you of bumblebees who vandalized the beehive? (It reminds me of both.)
