Quo by Orly Star Formation Swatches & Review

Quo by Orly Star Formation Swatches & ReviewI don’t know about you, but whenever I stop by Shoppers Drug Mart for toothpaste or something else that’s not beauty-related, I tend to find myself naturally walking toward the cosmetic aisle.

The power of polish compels me! (Say it in the same tone as in The Exorcist.) πŸ˜‰

Even if I have more nail polish than any sane person should, I still can’t help browsing the drugstore nail polishes.

Well, tucked away in a display near the ground, I foundΒ Quo by Orly Star Formation, which was so unique for a drugstore polish that I couldn’t leave without it. So, naturally, it jumped into my loving arms, and I ran to the cashier to pay.

And for the non-Canadians out there, just so you know, this is a dead-on dupe for Orly Intergalactic Space from the Orly Galaxy FX Collection for Spring 2014!

Quo by Orly Star Formation Review

Colour

Quo by Orly Star Formation is really like a galaxy in a bottle, which is why I love it so much!

The base is a very dark blue, and there’s fine glitter that looks like copper in some lighting. Then there’s some small glitter in copper and fuchsia. Then, chilling at the bottom of the bottle are large white circles, which are quite unexpected. (It’s hard to shake up the polish to evenly disperse the circles, and even if you turn the bottle upside down for a minute, they’ll don’t really seem to sink to the top of the bottle.)

The white circles tend not to go onto the brush often, so you may need to fish them out if you really want them on your nails.

Also, I noticed that when I painted another coat over my first, the white circles can get covered up by the pigmented polish. So, if you want to see the white circles, just try to paint them on your final layer.

Orly Intergalactic Space from the Orly Galaxy FX Collection for Spring 2014 looks like a dead-on dupe, so if you don’t live in Canada where Quo by Orly Star Formation is sold only at Shoppers Drug Mart, it’s still easy for you to find. (I saw that it’s sold on the official Official Orly website, if you’re interested.)

Finish

Hello!Β I think it’s pretty obvious that this is a glitterbomb nail polish. It sparkles at every angle, and because there are different sizes of glitter, it’s visually interesting to look at.

As much as I like the ease of a creme polish, there’s a cool dimension to glitter nail polishes that makes you want to look at them from the side, the top, and below. Plus having a party on your nails is a great way to pick up your spirits!

With all the glitter, it’s not all fun and games, though. Haha, removing this sucker was a challenge, but it was worth it! Just be prepared to scrub and scrub. Make sure you use an acetone-based nail-polish remover. It doesn’t have to be 100% acetone.

If you can’t do the time, then don’t do the crime! πŸ˜‰

There’s noticeable texture, but it was nothing crazy or uncomfortable. After I put one layer of top coat over this, it was pretty smooth, and the next day, the top coat didn’t seem to be absorbed by the glitter.

Application & Formula

The formula of Quo by Orly Star Formation went on easily, and it covered very well, even with one coat. Nevertheless, I used two coats out of habit.

Although there’s so much glitter in Star Formation, it didn’t feel chunky or like dried glue.

Pros

  • Interesting glitter with all different sizes of glitter
  • Multicoloured glitter
  • Pigmented

Cons

  • Difficult to remove because it’s chock full of glitter

Final Verdict: 9/10

Quo by Orly Star Formation is a true star in the drugstore among the other polishes, and I’m so glad that it’s now making friends in my collection! πŸ˜‰

Have you tried any Quo by Orly nail polishes? What was the most recent drugstore polish you purchased? What glitter nail polish did you wear last?

      Hey Melissa!

Apparently, some people have told me that they’ve seen this polish now on clearance for half off! Wow, that was fast! The Shoppers I went to literally just put the display up, so I paid full price. Even though I didn’t get a deal, this unique polish is worth even paying full price for!
