OPI My Paprika Is Hotter Than Yours! Swatches & Review

OPI My Paprika Is Hotter Than Yours Swatches & ReviewOPI My Paprika Is Hotter Than Yours! comes from the Euro Centrale Collection, which will reach stores on February 6, 2013.

Do you like hot and spicy food? I enjoy a little kick, but when food is very spicy, I can no longer taste anything and just focus on the pain! My tolerance for spicy food is pretty poor.

One of my co-workers never ceases to astound us all, though. She loves jalapeño peppers and hot sauce. In fact, in the lunch room, we’re used to seeing her pour hot sauce over her meal like it’s ketchup! (To give you an idea of how spicy it is, just a small drop of it is enough to make my mouth burn.)

And she never seems to feel cold, even when the temperature’s been dropping. We think it’s because of all the sauce she consumes! 😉 It must get the blood circulating…

P.S. How cool is it that today is December 12, 2012? 12…12…12…

OPI My Paprika Is Hotter Than Yours! Review

Is it just my eyes, or is this an orange with a hint of red and not a fiery red like OPI advertised? Or maybe it looks like a muted red to you?

When I think of a fiery red, I think of Santa’s suit or a stop sign. And, actually, I like how this is orange rather than a red. Yes, yes, yes, we’re getting closer to Christmas and red nail polish is giving us nailphiles puppy-dog eyes, but that only makes orange stand out more – it isn’t trying as hard! 😉

If you wear red with this polish, your nails will start to look a little redder. But, if you wear it with any other colour of clothes, it looks like an energetic orange rather than a standard pumpkin type of orange.

When I wore this manicure, the sky was overcast. And when the sun came out, I was in the office, so I didn’t ever see the shimmer. But, when I look closely at the bottle, it looks like there’s fine silvery shimmer. My Paprika Is Hotter Than Yours! looks mainly like a creme polish when it’s on the nail, though.

Application & Formula

The formula on this one was easy to control, and with just 2 coats, I was able to achieve full opacity.

  • Energetic orange (or muted red)
  • Easy-to-control formula

  • I don’t consider this to be a ‘fiery red’ as advertised

Final Verdict: 7.5/10

OPI My Paprika Is Hotter Than Yours! is a nice alternative to all the red polishes I’ve been seeing in December. It’s bold and bright without being predictable for this season.

(This is actually from a Spring/Summer 2013 collection, so it’s not really supposed to be linked with Christmas. I just think it’s neat to wear orange instead of the traditional red this time of year.)

Do you wear more red nail polish during December? Do you cook with Paprika a lot or another spice? Does this lacquer look more orange or red to you?

Yeap – am with you on the hot/spicy foods – I have a friend I say has his mouth lined with asbestos the way he downs the hot peppers and such. I also see an orangy/tomato red here. Maybe what was meant about a fire red is more like there is a glowing fire inside this shade? Don’t know. Seems a lot of the editorial comments that various polish cos put out are not as much color related as they are to evoke some sort of visceral response hoping it helps sell more bottles. I do like this one, but don’t think it’s very unique. I know I have a # of others close to this from both ChG and OPI older shades.

Just thought of one more thing – with the name containing Paprika in it – when I think of all the paprika I have seen and used in the yrs..it’s always in the red or sometimes rusty red/orange hue range…maybe that’s where they came up with the editorial idea of calling this a hot red from the spice of Paprika. Still it’s one of those iffy things because there are folks who order sight unseen on a lot of the early release info from OPI because it’s such a popular and trusted brand.

      Hey beachgal!

It would be interesting to see your friend having a competition with my co-worker. Wonder if we’d have to have the firemen on call. 😉

      Hey Gelic’ nail art!

I agree with you – the darker reds are hot! 🙂 I also like bright firetruck reds when I feel like sporting something classic.

Whatever color or spice this is, it looks awesome on you. 😉 So much so, I have to take a beat and remind myself, that it’s not a color for me…cuz your pics make me want to own everything you wear. 🙂
P.S. I love that you reference the collection info, etc at end of each post – I often come back and look things up this way.

      Hey Kim Cecchi!

      Spicy nails – want a bite? 😛

Aww…thank you for the high praise! (My ego needs petting from time to time. Nothing wrong with that! :D) Glad that you’ve been liking my photos so much! Haha, I take hundreds of each manicure and have to weed through a lot to choose the ones that are the least blurry. Sometimes I take tooooo many photos, but I don’t want to let my readers down.

YAY – I’m glad you use that information! Makes the extra effort so worth it. Thanks for letting me know you find it handy!

I actually see this as a fiery red!!! And it’s going on my to get list when the collection comes out!!
I’m even worse than you when it comes to spicy foods, I can’t eat ANYTHING spicy… It kills all the taste for me and all I can feel is the burn!! Your coworkers blood is probably on fire from all the jalapeños, that’s why she’s always hot haha :))

      Hey Gosia!

Okay, well, I do wear glasses, haha! 😉 Maybe I need a new prescription! Hahaha! I’ll need to inspect this polish again soon.

You know what? I think people who can eat really spicy food must’ve built up some strong tolerance or something. I remember years ago, I couldn’t eat ANYTHING spicy, but then I started slowly building it up (to a point). Now I can go as far as medium in spiciness, but nothing more or I regret it. And my tongue, in general, is pretty sensitive even with hot beverages and soups. Maybe people who can handle REALLY spicy food have a more robust tongue?

Haha, my co-worker is really funny and unique! She gets so bummed out when she doesn’t have any hot sauce. And all of us are amazed (and horrified) when she literally goes through a full bottle of hot sauce by herself in just under a few weeks! A full bottle would probably last a year for me!

(By the way, she also wears flip flops even though the weather’s been cold. It’s like she’s immune to the cold. Wish I was like that. Instead, I get chilly easily and am like an elderly lady who moved from Miami to an igloo! :P)

I feel like I’m looking at the hot sauce or pepper selection at a grocery store. Like a ripe habanero chili pepper.

Usually I fawn for blues with new collections, so it’s weird to me that I like the red from Euro Centrale.

      Hey Jolene!

Thank you so much for letting me know and for caring so much about the importance of intellectual property. I feel like a lot of people think it’s okay to use images without permission, but it’s not! Plus I usually allow people to use my images for personal use as long as they provide proper credit and let me know about it first.

I took a look at the link you sent. Apparently, that blogger deleted the post completely.

Haha! That’s so true. I can identify a bunch of bloggers nails. And I always wonder if I’d be able to do so in real life…in person. When nails are blown up on the computer screen, it’s so different!
