Nail Art Tutorial: Dotty Nails

Seeing Spots Nail Art Swatches & TutorialGuess what? Several weeks ago, I finally bought a set of 5 double-sided dotting tools!

I wasn’t planning to show these Dotty Nails because I really was just playing around with the tools. I wasn’t thinking about what colours would look nice together. I was just having fun! 🙂

But when I ran out of space on my nails, I looked at the random design and actually kinda liked it! So I wore my spontaneous creation.

I’ve always wanted to do a manicure with all dots. It’s super easy and really fast. Plus there’s something satisfying about creating each dot for some reason.

I liked it, but maybe you think it looks like the connect-the-dots measles. Haha! 😛 Continue reading

Avon Lagoon Swatches & Review

Avon Lagoon Swatches & ReviewI used to work with a woman who was an Avon representative. She brought the Avon catalog to the office and let a bunch of us look through it.

Just flipping through it was a like a flashback of grade school because my best friend’s mother was really into Avon. And since maybe grade 7, I hadn’t seen their catalog.

Of course they had the usual offerings of red, pink, and sheers. Avon strikes me as a very traditional company that doesn’t make too many waves. Then again, I haven’t kept up with them, so maybe they’ve changed. From what I saw in the book, however, it doesn’t look like it.

So I was really surprised when I caught sight of the only ‘funky’ colour in the bunch – a blue. I asked my co-worker if she could put in an order for me for Avon Lagoon.

After I bought it, I put it inside a box (where I used to keep polishes) and kind of just forgot about it. Then recently, I dug it out because I wanted to finally try an Avon nail polish to see how the formula was. Continue reading

Misa Girls’ Night Out Swatches & Review

Misa Girls' Night Out Swatches & ReviewAlthough I have a bunch of Misa nail polishes in my stash, it dawned on me that I hadn’t swatched and reviewed one on here.

Back when I first started collecting nail polish more seriously (in 2008), I used to buy Misa polishes a lot. (Haven’t bought one in a long time…ever since I saw the unnecessarily sexual promo picture for their I’m Only Human Collection.)

Today I bring you Misa Girls’ Night Out! Believe it or not, this is the first time I’ve worn it in all these years.

I got it because on other people, it looked like a bright purple. But, as you can see, on me it’s actually a berry-toned pink. Pretty, but not a colour I wear often because it usually doesn’t do anything for me. Love the super-shininess of it, though!

Please bear with me. The sun didn’t come out the entire time I wore this, so I can only really show you pictures in dim natural lighting (which makes my photos grainy) and with flash (which makes the colours look brighter than in real life). Continue reading

China Glaze Papaya Punch Swatches & Review

China Glaze Papaya Punch Swatches & ReviewOrange is a colour that I don’t typically wear. But since Hallowe’en is coming up soon, I’ve been looking through my 400+ polish collection to try to find some good oranges to use for upcoming nail-art tutorials.

China Glaze Papaya Punch made it onto the hit list! 🙂 Can’t believe I didn’t wear it sooner.

It’s a gorgeous, creamy orange that’s bright without being as neon as China Glaze Sun Worshipper (which I love, by the way).

I’ve already created one nail-art design using this colour, but that post will only go live in October. I kind of want to save stuff like that closer to Hallowe’en so that it’s more festive. Continue reading

OPI Swimsuit…Nailed It! Swatches & Review

OPI Swimsuit...Nailed It Swatches & ReviewYou’ll remember me blogging about OPI It’s My Year not long ago. That was the polish on my list when I went into Trade Secrets. But as I picked it up, another colour caught my eye on the display – OPI Swimsuit…Nailed It!

Figuring that It’s My Year would be lonely, I decided to give it some company. So what if I paid for its friend. 😛

I’m so glad I picked up Swimsuit…Nailed It! Although the name irritates me (mainly because of the ellipsis), the colour blew me away. (Or in this case, I should say it ‘blue’ me away.)

It didn’t dawn on me until recently that because I’m so obsessed with green polish, I don’t swatch or review enough blues (even though I really love them, too). Continue reading

Nail Art Tutorial: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Nails

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Nails Tutorial & SwatchesSometimes inspiration hits me between the eyes when I least expect it. *Ouch* Hehe…

Originally I was just going to do some nail stamping with Bundle Monster Image Plate BM-206. But when I finished my nails, the more I looked at the pattern, the more I thought about Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles! (I used to watch that show with my brother when I was little.)

The nail-art light bulb turned on. Eureka! Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Nails were born!

From index finger to pinkie, let me introduce you to the pizza-eating-ass-whooping-sewage-dwelling crew: Donatello, Leonardo, Raphael, and Michelangelo.

This design is extremely easy to do, and it’s pretty fast to do, too. However, the one major drawback of this nail art is that it requires lots of different polish colours.

But…for those who have the supplies, I’d love for you to try it out and show me how yours turn out! 🙂

And before I continue…I have one very important thing to say: Heroes in a half shell! Turtle power! 😛 Haha, I’m such a nerd, I know…

Nail Art Tutorial: Bee Nails

Bee Nails Nail Art Tutorial, Swatches & PicturesWhat’s all the buzzin’ about? Pipe it down! 😛

Today I bring you some new (and easy) nail art: Bee Nails! Are they the bee’s knees or the bee’s elbows?

This is a design that I’ll show you step-by-step how to recreate. These yellow bandits will be ready in no time!

All you’ll need is a yellow polish (I used OPI Need Sunglasses?), a black striper and/or polish, a white polish, and a dotting tool.

Heh…if you look closely at the swatches of this, you’ll notice that I accidentally gave one of my bees a cataract! 🙁 Whoopsie! No hard feelings, right, Bee-atris? 😉

But hopefully you still like the way it looks. And, hey, maybe seeing isn’t always bee-lieving! (Okay, okay! I hear you groaning…I’ll stop with the corny puns.) Continue reading
