My Top 5 Favourite Purples

My-Top-5--Favourite-Purples-SwatchAndLearnAfter publishing My Top 5 Favourite Greens post, I got some requests to doΒ My Top 5 Favourite Purples.

Took me long enough, but I finally did it. No, I didn’t forget, but sometimes I get bitten by the Procrastination Bug.

Don’t believe me? Here, I’ll show you the bite marks. Okay, maybe I won’t…

Purple polish was my first love before I fell in lust with greens. For a long time, the majority of my collection was purple. Now I think if there was a tug-of-war, there’d be a tie between purple and green.

So, without further ado, here are my purple picks out of the ones I’ve shown you on Swatch And Learn! πŸ˜€

Color Club Wild At Heart

Color Club Wild At Heart Review & Swatches

Excuse me. I. Must. Catch. My. Breath. Wild At Heart by Color Club makes me pant and my heart race. Perhaps this is a psychedelic heart attack in a bottle!

What’s not to love about a rich purple that has so much holographic goodness, the fairies’ pixie dust looks like sand in comparison? πŸ˜‰

Not only does it show off pretty much all the colours of the rainbow, but the pigmentation is siiiiiiicccckkk! (Okay, I never use descriptions like ‘sick’ to mean ‘amazing’, but that’s what this polish does to me. My vocabulary has morphed. My tongue is tied. My eyeballs are bulging out. Yup, I’m a beautiful specimen right now. Adriana Lima, watch out for me!) πŸ˜‰

And do you want to know another incredible thing about this polish? Yes, Ron Popeil,Β there’s more!Β Wild At Heart is one of the least expensive holographic polishes on the market! Affordable and a looker? “Baby, are you from Tennessee? Because you’re the only ten I see!” Come home with me! πŸ˜›

Illamasqua Stance

Illamasqua Stance Review & Swatch

Stance by llamasqua is a fun-loving purple that reminds me of summer and doing cartwheels in a field, for some reason…even though it’s not green.

It’s a happy shade, and when you paint your nails with it, you’ll be smiling because the formula is incredible! It seems to paint itself and it self-levels, so your manicure looks great even if you’re rushing faster than a ferret on speed!

Without a top coat, the finish is dull, but once you put on a top coat, it seems to become even shinier than a normal polish with a top coat! It’s as shiny as a jelly polish!

It’ll make you constantly stare at your nails more than you probably should. Be careful when crossing the street – looks both ways.

Zoya Yasmeen

Zoya Yasmeen Swatch & Review

When I want a dark, sexy, devilish purple that’s like a bad boy on a motorcycle telling me to hop on the back, I reach for Yasmeen by Zoya.

Not only is the formula smooth and easy to apply, but the result is always stunning. I get a lot of compliments on this shade whenever I wear it, and I enjoy looking at the shimmer come out more in the sunlight and then take a backseat in dimmer light.

It’s one of those polishes that’s full of life!

OPI Do You Lilac It?

OPI-Do-You-Lilac-It-Swatches-Review

I’m not usually crazy about pastels, but this one is punchier than an anemic pastel. Yet it has the same soft look as one.

In the bottle, this polish does nothing for me. In fact, I bought it just to try out a purple like that, since up to that point, I hadn’t worn anything like it.

Let me tell you – I was blown to kingdom come when I put this on. It made my nails look very ladylike, which I’m not used to. Since I tend to wear flashy and bold colours, this softer look was very refreshing. I always feel classy with this shade…and I suppose it’s funny since a pastel purple isn’t usually associated with being classy!

Nicole by OPI Purple Yourself Together

NOPI Purple Yourself Together Swatch & Review

Last, but certainly not least, is Nicole by OPI Purple Yourself Together. It was gorgeous in the bottle, but I loved it more on the nail.

It’s a muted purple with golden shimmer that dances on your nails in the same vein as snow twinkles when sunlight shines on it.

This looks like magic.

Even though the formula was sheer and you need to wear multiple coats for full coverage, the effort is well worth the results.

So there you have it! It was soooooo difficult to narrow it down to just 5 purple polishes, but I’m very content with my choices.

Which of these purple polishes do you like the best? What are your top 5 favourite purples? What colour would you like me to do next?

Wild At Heart is beyond gorgeous!

My favorite purple that I own is “It’s An Original!” from Finger Paints. I just got it last week, and have only tested it on one finger, but I’m in love! It’s super dark and shiny, just loooove!

I’d love to see your favorite grey/silvers. πŸ™‚

      Hey Angie!

Thanks for the suggestion. Greys and silvers is going to be a tough post for me because I just realized that I don’t feature many on here. I think I have the least in that colour catagory…but it’s a good challenge! I’ll see what I can do…but I think I need to review more on here in general first!

My favorite fro your top 5 is Wild At Heart! It’s just stunning! If I made a top 5 purple list I would add OPI Grape… Set… Match…! There’s just something about that color that I love. How about trying a top 5 Holographic nail polish list.

      Hey maddy!

OPI Grape…Set…Match is very gorgeous indeed! I can understand why it’d be on your list. πŸ™‚

YES! I definitely want to do a holographic list. I’d like to review more on here, too. Now that it’s summer and it’s easier to catch the sunlight, I should have no excuse.

Great top 5- lots of diversity there. I never bought Purple Yourself Together because it’s not sold around where I live and I am with the group that sooo hates the bottle shape on this one – it totally hogs too much space in my cases for polish, plus I cannot think of one shade in this brand I probably used more than 2-3 times max ever. But wow – this is a stunner. I think I have 2 really similar to your not so pale pastel lavender cream. When you find one in that hue that works for you with a good formula it’s killer. So many end up chalky white or too punched up on the color they only look OK with some things some days, some occasions. This does remind me of a China Glaze I have – thinking it was from the Electropop collection of the one like it released early 2011 – was that called Keneticpop collection maybe? Then it’s reminding me of one Essie from this year I am goofy over – Play Date- finally Essie got a lavender that was not all chalky white and it’s app is really good. Have worn that one a ton. Curious if you have Play Date if you could do a comparison of the 2. I am really thinking they are close. And Play Date is pretty easy still to find.

BTW – please do more of these kind of posts…I love top this and that. Also like just plain old spam of colors/brands…even if they are re-posts of ones you have done a feature on.

Thanks for the encouragement and input. I definitely will do more of these “Top” posts. And I’ve been thinking about doing some ‘bottle spam’ posts. Not sure…just tossing around some other ideas, too. And there are lots of polishes I’ve previously reviewed on here closer to when Swatch And Learn first began that I want to re-swatch because my new camera picks up the details better than my old one ever did.

      Hey beachgal!

Hahaha, yeah, the Nicole by OPI bottles is oddly shaped. They could use some revamping. I’m surprised that they haven’t changed the bottle yet. I mean, so many people have voiced their dislike of the shape, and if they only changed it, they could probably sell a lot more polish!

No, I don’t own Essie Play Date. I just looked up swatches online, and it looks so pretty! Maybe I should get it…Haha, like I need another purple polish. πŸ˜‰

    Hi Mary,
I love all the purples. My 2 faves are Zoya Yasmeen and OPI Do You Lilac It?. In fact it’s because I saw your swatches that I bought both of these colors. Love your site, keep up the awesome job! Have a great day. :~)

Yay, another round-up post! πŸ™‚ I’ve been drooling over purples lately but I don’t have any in my (still small) collection…that needs to change! I noticed all 5 of these are from different brands–I appreciate that you feature all different brands on your blog.

      Hey Jessica!

Variety is the spice of life, as they say. And I really enjoy trying out different brands because sometimes you can find colours from one brand that you can’t in another. And sometimes even if it’s the same shade, one brand will perfect the formula. πŸ™‚ Glad that you’re enjoying the posts!

I can feel you on this. But know me. The purple one. lol I like Zoya Yasmeen! But my favorite of all time is China Glaze Midnight Ride.
The Color Club Wild At Heart is a little to glittery for me. I don’t know. I might check it out. But I love the color.
The Nicole by OPI Purple Yourself Together I can rock it. You list is pretty cool.

Ooohhh…I don’t have Midnight Ride, but it’s been on my To-Buy List ever since it came out. Now that’s a very sexy polish!

Hehe, do you wear any glittery or holographic polishes? I can’t remember seeing any on you.

Great choices! How about a top 5 blues list? πŸ˜€ Thanks for adding to my wish list. πŸ˜› I knew I should’ve gotten Yasmeen (which also happens to be my bestie’s name) instead of Tart. And Stance..! I need it. But I can’t get over the $10+ price tag. Oh, and did I mention I’m on a self-imposed one month no buy? August better fly by, for my sanity! πŸ˜‰

Stance is totally worth it – the formula is dreamy!

Best of luck on the no buy. Wow, Carmela, you put yourself on no buys so often. Hehe, but I’m rooting for you to stick to it! YOU CAN DO IT.

OH MY WOW! Looking at purple makes my heart and soul happy (I don’t wear it all that often though… odd I know).
I don’t know how you did it narrowing your favourite down to just five, but you did a MAGNIFICENT job. I wouldn’t be able to pick a fave of your top 5… all are soooo pretty!

Thank you! It was VERRRRY difficult choosing just five. Wow, I sound really spoiled…and I guess I am because of my crazy nail-polish collection. I’m very grateful to own so many polishes and to also be able to select several from a colour category.
