Zoya Song Swatches & Review

Zoya-Song-Swatches-ReviewDespite it being released before I was even born, Zoya Song immediately calls to mind the Neil Diamond tune named Song Sung Blue.

While I was painting my nails, I was humming the chorus before I even made the connection.

But this blue nail polish from the Zoya NYFW 2012 Collection won’t leave you weeping like a willow.

If you’re like me and tend to reach for saturated shades, this one doesn’t disappoint! It’s a stunning jewel-tone that I feel plays very well with many different skin tones from the fairest to the richest.

Zoya Song Review

Colour

I love how Zoya describes this blue as Egyptian because that came to mind when I saw the bottle.

It’s an alluring blue that got me a lot of unsolicited compliments.

(Actually, I rarely go up to people and show them my nails unless it’s nail art. In that case, I may ask people if they can tell what it is! Asking my mom is usually the funniest because a lot of times she doesn’t ‘get’ my nail art and ‘sees’ something else in my design that wasn’t intended.)

But…going back to Song by Zoya! It’s a strong sapphire blue that would be stunning to use as a base for galaxy nail art.

Finish

Song by Zoya has a sparkly finish that looks like micro-glitter. From far away, it looks like a metallic, glowy finish, but when you see it up close, you can see the individual pieces of tiny glitter. It catches the light and gives the overall polish a seductive appearance.

Also important to note is that the finish is smooth, not gritty like a traditional glitter.

Application & Formula

Oh my goodness, this polish was pretty close to being fully opaque in a single coat. Even if you just use a thin coat, it covers so well.

The formula is easy to control with the Zoya brush, and I had no problems getting the polish to level out and look even. It was a joy to use this formula! No hassles. No struggles. I like polishes that make it easier for us!

Animal-Friendliness

All Zoya nail polishes are not only cruelty-free, but they’re also vegan! So if you’re making conscious shopping choices to make a difference, this is a great brand to support.

Pros

  • Glowy finish catches the light
  • Richly pigmented formula
  • Cruelty-free & vegan
Cons

  • Is there one? (If I really nit-pick, I’d just say that the base of the blue isn’t the most unique. However, with the finish, I think it becomes special!)

Final Verdict: 9.5/10

I could never get tired of blues like this – they’re rich,  and they apply like a dream. Plus if you think it’s not unique enough for you, just slap on a glittery top coat, and trust me…it’ll look like a starry night sky!

Does a song ever pop into your head when you see the name of a nail polish? How do you cheer yourself up when you’re feeling blue?

      Hey Karen!

Same here! 🙂 Tons of songs pop into my head when doing housework…oh, and also when I’m taking a shower.

Ah this is so beautiful! I’m seriously in love with the whole Diva collection (and most of the Designer collection too, haha). Song looks so good on you, it’s so pigmented and the finish is gorgeous. When I’m feeling blue I like to paint my nails (surprise, surprise) 🙂

      Hey Jenn!

Thank you! 😀 This is the type of polish that looks stunning on anyone…probably even my mom’s cat. Hehe! (No, I don’t paint animals’ nails…unless you count men.) 😉 Hehe!
