Cult Nails Coveted Swatches & Review

Cult-Nails-Coveted-Swatches-ReviewCult Nails Coveted from the Behind Closed Doors Collection is a deep, sexy green lacquer that is right up my alley.

Green is a ‘comfort polish’ for me. It very rarely lets me down. ‘Ole Reliable’.

And my fondness for green is no secret. 🙂 My good friend, Marta, from ChitChatNails gave me this bottle as a gift! Imagine my excitement when I learned it was from the newest collection! (Thanks, Marta!)

Cult Nails Toxic Seaweed Swatches & Review (Layered Over Illamasqua Stance)

Cult Nails Toxic Seaweed Swatches & ReviewThe minute I heard about Cult Nails Toxic Seaweed, I knew that it had to be mine.

That badass name, the fact that it was green with flakies, and learning that it was a layering polish were all signs that pointed to a Mary Must Buy! 😉

My first instinct was to layer Toxic Seaweed over a green, but since I was already wearing a fuchsia violet, Illamasqua Stance, I became curious to discover how it would transform an already-beautiful polish.

To my wild delight, the berry shade took on a blue tone, which allowed the green sparkles and red flakies to punctuate the manicure brilliantly. I think it even has a little bit of a galaxy-nails personality.

What do you think?

China Glaze Golden Enchantment Swatches & Review (Layered Over Cult Nails In A Trance)

China Glaze Golden Enchantment Swatches & ReviewWhile looking through some old folders on my computer, I found a manicure I wore quite a while ago.

The flash photos didn’t look so hot, but since I had a bunch of other photos in different lighting, I thought it was still worth sharing with you.

It’s an oldie, but a goodie – China Glaze Golden Enchantment!

In this post, you’ll see it layered over Cult Nails In A Trance, which I’ve previously reviewed. I think that Golden Enchantment looks the best layered over olive greens.

China Glaze Golden Enchantment lives up to its name. The holographic glitter makes an excellent top coat that transforms your base colour into something truly magical!

Cult Nails My Kind of Cool Aid Swatches & Review

Cult Nails My Kind of Cool Aid Swatches & ReviewHaha, if you saw yesterday’s Smorgasbord Sundays post, you got to giggle over some fun swatches of Cult Nails My Kind of Cool Aid on a guy!

I sported this awesome grayish purple polish a couple of weeks ago, but after he made the debut swatches, I had to follow up with these. 😉

This polish is tricky to capture accurately on camera because even in person, it changes a bit. If you take the colour in my flash photos and natural-light photos, the real colour is a cross between the two.

(Funny thing: The colour in my Smorgasbord Sundays post is pretty accurate, and it was done with the camera’s flash.)

Nail Art Tutorial: Tuxedo Nails

Tuxedo Nails Nail Art Tutorial & PicturesDid you watch the Golden Globe Awards? I only got a chance to catch some of the red-carpet arrivals and then I was on the road.

I was excited when Ryan Seacrest pointed out Zooey Deschanel’s nails, which looked like adorable tuxedos!

It reminded me that for a while now, I’ve been wanting to do a nail art tutorial for how to do easy Tuxedo Nails.

Here’s a different version than hers, but it’ll still get your fingers on the Best Dressed List. 😉

You’ll notice that I also opted not to use white, which is traditional for this look.

Hope you’ll also play around with all sorts of untraditional colours. (Consider ditching the black bow tie for something bright and whimsical instead!)

In this post, you’ll also notice that I’ve been playing around with image sizes. Please let me know in the comments if you prefer fewer, but much-larger photos or many, but smaller photos. Also, please let me know if these larger photos make the post much slower to load than my usual posts. I appreciate your feedback! Continue reading

Cult Nails In A Trance Swatches & Review

Cult Nails In A Trance Swatches & ReviewWe all have our favourite comfort food that we gobble up in no time flat. It may remind us of home or something else that’s familiar and reassuring – it makes us feel good.

The same is true of nail polish. No, we don’t swallow our liquid euphoria, but we get the same sense of security when we wear our trusty nail colour. In other words, certain colours can put us at ease.

Cult Nails In A Trance from the Hypnotic Collection is one of my ‘comfort polishes’.

It’s a golden olive that I find very easy to wear and that really fits in with my style. I find the colour soothing yet interesting enough to keep my attention.

This is the first time that I tried In A Trance, and I can easily see myself going back to this colour whenever I’m not sure what to wear.

Do you have a ‘comfort polish’? Continue reading

The Best of 2011: Nail Polish, Nail Art, Makeup, Skincare & Fragrance

Swatch And Learn The Best of 2011It’s been quite a year, hasn’t it?

I’ve tried all sorts of new beauty products including nail polishes. And I’ve had tons of fun coming up with nail-art designs!

Now that it’s the last day in 2011, it’s time to reflect upon the year.

I’d like to share with you my Best of 2011 list! I still have a ton of favourites from last year, so these picks are strictly new ones that I’ve blogged about in 2011.

You’ll see it broken down into the following categories: nail polish (duh), nail art (double duh), fragrance, makeup, and skincare. All lists are in no particular order. (It was difficult enough to whittle down my picks for the nail polishes!)

Feel free to click on the links – they’ll take you to the blog post with the swatches, reviews, and tutorial (where appropriate).

Now I’m so curious about what you think!

Is there a lacquer that you feel I sorely missed including? Have you found your Holy Grail facial cleanser? What nail-art design have you worn in 2011 that you would consider wearing again in 2012?

Please weigh in with your picks! We’re all different, but our love for beauty products brings us together. 🙂 Continue reading
