Green is a ‘comfort polish’ for me. It very rarely lets me down. ‘Ole Reliable’.

And my fondness for green is no secret. ๐Ÿ™‚ My good friend, Marta, from ChitChatNails gave me this bottle as a gift! Imagine my excitement when I learned it was from the newest collection! (Thanks, Marta!)

Cult Nails Coveted Review

Colour

Coveted by Cult Nails is a dark evergreen that makes me think of enchanted forests and emeralds under a moonlit sky. It’s deep and mysterious like a handsome man sipping on scotch while reading Valperga.

Finish

Coveted by Cult Nails has a jelly finish, but it’s very pigmented. Typically jellies are very sheer, and you need to use 3-4 coats. Even then, you can see visible nail line. With Coveted, I got pretty good coverage with just 2 coats, but I added a third one for insurance. (Sometimes when I use Seche Vite over jellies, it creates premature tip wear.)

But it’s not just a typical jelly that looks squishy. It has green micro-shimmer throughout.

What really makes this polish stand apart from what’s already on the market is that it has large, irregular-shaped flakes. When coated with the jelly, the flakes appear like a lighter green. They add a lot of visual interest and make it so each nail looks slightly different.

Application & Formula

Cult Nails Coveted goes on very smoothly, however, a few times, there were extra-large flakes that would curl up and fold over themselves. Aside from that, the formula was perfect and easy-to-control.

I tried using the brush to fix the flakes that folded over when they landed on my nail. However, as you can see if you look at my pinkie, I was unsuccessful at fixing it. The flake stuck out and and was very lumpy, even after I coated it with Seche Vite. I’ve never had a polish do this. It was strange because those large flakes looked exactly like wilted pieces of seaweed.

Since I’m not one to redo a nail just because it doesn’t turn out perfect, I not only left it as-is, but I wore the manicure for a couple of days. It didn’t really bother me because it wasn’t sharp – it just wasn’t as smooth as my other nails.

Pros

  • Gorgeous green jelly with shimmer & flakes
  • Easy-to-control formula
  • Pigmented jelly
Cons

  • A flake or two may be extra large & fold over on itself, which becomes lumpy

Final Verdict: 8.5/10

Cult Nails Coveted is a stunning polish and very different from other greens in my collection. Although some of the flakes posed a challenge, overall, I found it very easy to work with, and I loved how it’s a dark green that didn’t look black.

Have you purchased any shades from the Cult Nails Behind Closed Doors Collection? Are you a flakie fan? What’s your favourite jelly polish?

      Hey Erin M.!

That’s amazing how you have such willpower. Hehe, I know that the first of next year isn’t THAT far away, but sometimes when you want a polish, it seems like forever…or maybe that’s just me. ๐Ÿ˜‰ But, I commend you on being able to wait it out. Good for you!

Hi. This shade is amazing and your nails are stunning. You have applyed SECHE VITE FAST DRY TOP COAT… Have you ever experienced any shrinkage of the polish at the tip of your nails after using it? How do you handle this? It’s annoying…. Thank you

      Hey Valentina!

Yes, sometimes Seche Vite shrinks polishes if I apply it too soon or over really thin lacquers. Also, I notice that jelly polishes shrink a lot after using Seche Vite. But, for most polishes, it doesn’t cause shrinkage as long as I don’t apply Seche too soon.

It’s definitely annoying! But to avoid this a lot of times, I’ll add an extra layer of coloured polish and/or put more on the tips. Also, I tend to wait a few minutes after my final coat of polish to allow it to set a bit before I put on Seche Vite.

      Hope that helps!
