Pretty Serious Pookie Swatches & Review

Aqua blues like Pretty Serious Pookie from The Well Meaning But Ultimately Quite Awkward Pet Names Collection are flattering on virtually everyone. It looks fresh, suits any season, and the no-nonsense formula is versatile.

Cloudless skies. Frosty icicles. Pretty Serious Pookie fits into any design you want to paint!

The classic Madonna song, True Blue initially sprung to mind when I first laid eyes on this aqua.

When I was a kid, my dad used to play that song a lot (when he wasn’t spinning Elvis Presley tracks. And, yes, we had a record player. My dad was a big music and movie fan.)

Although none of my friends cared for the movie, the first time my dad introduced me to Madonna, in the film Who’s That Girl, I found it really entertaining. Haven’t seen it since I was maybe 5-years-old, so I’ll probably have to check it out soon.

Now as an unfortunate “grown-up,” my perspective on the movie probably is so different. It will be interesting to see if it still appeals to me. (Some films, like Return to Oz and The Goonies still remain favourites from childhood into adulthood, though. Great movies transcend age.)

I remember asking my dad to play Who’s That Girl again when the credits started rolling at the end of the movie. Haha, apparently when I liked a movie, I would watch it back-to-back and butcher it. 😉

My dad also had some of Madonna’s early concerts on VHS tape. We would watch it together, and innocent l’il me once asked my dad why Madonna wore Dixie cups. I can’t remember what his response was (haha, it’s really too bad!), but as a kid, I truly felt sorry for her and thought that she didn’t have enough money for real clothes. As an adult now, don’t worry – I understand. Still, I wish I could go back to those days of innocence.

Pretty Serious Pookie Review

Colour

Pookie by Pretty Serious is a vibrant aqua that isn’t too bright – it’s like a blue for Goldilocks’ baby bear because it’s “just right.”

A shade like this has just enough punch that I feel it would look wonderful on a wide range of skin tones from fair to rich.

It’s exactly the kind of shade that, each time I sport it, I can’t help but admire my manicure like a polish peacock! 😉

Finish

While I used to be drawn to glitter and crazy finishes when I was younger, I find that the older I get, cremes are becoming more appealing to me. Not only does the finish look so polished and smooth, but cremes are easy to wear solo or as a base for nail art. It also allows the colour to be the star of the show, which I appreciate.

When it comes time to remove it, it comes off without any hassles, which is also a wonderful benefit.

Application & Formula

The application is what dreams are made of! Pookie by Pretty Serious is smooth, pigmented, and exceptionally creamy!

With only two coats, I was able to get the full coverage that you see in the photos above.

I tend to use medium coats, but with this saturated formula, I think that even if you use thin coats, you’ll still be able to achieve full opacity. Great formula!

Ingredients

Those who are making conscious shopping choices will be thrilled to know that Pretty Serious Pookie doesn’t contain Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin, DBP, or Toluene.

Animal-Friendliness

This nail polish is vegan and cruelty-free, which I think is especially appropriate because this collection is about pets! 🙂

Pros

  • Flattering aqua creme for many different skin tones
  • Creamy & smooth
  • Pigmented & needs just 2 coats for full coverage
  • No Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin, DBP, or Toluene
  • Vegan & cruelty-free

Cons

  • Not a crazy shade (But not every colour needs to be admitted into the insane asylum…)

Final Verdict: 9.5/10

I’m a big fan of Pretty Serious Pookie because the colour is so cheerful, and the formula is easy to paint with.

This is one of the better creamy and pigmented aquas that I’ve worn. So beautiful!

Are you ‘guilty’ of calling a loved one Pookie? Do you remember Madonna’s movie, Who’s That Girl? What is your favourite Madonna song of all time?
