Pretty Serious Hot Summer Nights Swatches & Review

Pretty Serious Hot Summer Nights Swatches & ReviewPretty Serious Hot Summer Nights is from the Christmas Without Snow Collection.

It made me think about how, after last winter was unusually mild here, a lot of people were predicting that Mother Nature would hook up with Old Man Winter this year for a real doozie!

Thankfully, that hasn’t been the case. Mother Nature didn’t reply to Old Man Winter’s e-mail….yet! 😉 Maybe she’s busy planning an awesome summer, and she doesn’t want to get distracted. Or maybe his e-mail accidentally landed in the spam folder…

√ Inky blue jelly with silver micro glitter

Key Notes

Pretty Serious Hot Summer Nights Review

Colour

If you love writing as much as I do, at some point, you probably have admired the colour of ink on paper. It’s dark blue with a bit of shimmer. Hot Summer Nights by Pretty Serious is reminiscent of that deep, mysterious shade.

It also reminds me of a night sky – it’s dark, but there’s just enough blue to keep it from looking completely black.

The glitter is silver, but the finish of the polish gives it a wash of blue. These pieces wind up looking bright, and they offer a lot of twinkle that you’ll appreciate the most on a sunny day.

Finish

Hot Summer Nights by Pretty Serious has what I would describe as a creme finish because it goes on very opaque, but since it seems to tint the silver glitter slightly blue, it must actually be a jelly. (If it was a straight creme, it would just completely cover the glitter instead of letting it shine through.)

Application & Formula

The formula was wonderful! Even with a single coat, I got incredible coverage. Depending on how thick you apply each coat, you could get full coverage with one coat! (I used 2 coats out of habit.)

It applied easily, and I found it pretty much went where I wanted it to go. The parts where I got it on my skin were due to my own fault. (I often paint my nails at night while doing other things like watching TV or even blogging because I like to multitask.)

Removal

Like with many saturated blues, this one gives your fingers a blue tint when you remove it. However, it doesn’t stain them permanently! Just wash your hands a few times in a row, and the blue comes right off.

Pros

  • Saturated inky blue
  • Silver glitter brightens up the dark base colour
  • Jelly-creme finish
  • Formula applies easily
  • Pretty much a one-coater (depending on how thick you apply it)
Cons

  • Requires a few hand washings after removal to get rid of the slight blue tint left behind

Final Verdict: 8/10

Hot Summer Nights by Pretty Serious is dramatic and fierce! I liked how it wasn’t so dark that it looked straight-up black. The glitter also helped to add life to the polish and make it fun to look at, especially in the sunlight.

I was impressed with the coverage and the smooth formula.

If you’re looking for a vampy blue, this is a lovely one to have in your collection!

Are you ready for winter to be over? Do you look forward to the summer or another season? (My favourite season is the fall, although years ago, I would’ve said summer.)

Edit: Yay! I’m so honoured that Pretty Serious Cosmetics retweeted my tweet!

      Hey Cindi!

This is the type of colour that makes me want to trim my nails really short. There’s something really edgy about short nails with dark polish. 🙂 It’s one of my favourite looks!

      Hey Lizzy!

Oh yeah? Over here, it hasn’t rained. It’s been quite mild, and as we get closer to the weekend, the temperature is supposed to rise to spring-like temperatures! (I’m looking forward to that because I’m sooooo not a winter person!)
