Zoya Carly Swatches & Review

Zoya Carly Swatches & ReviewAre you a purple-polish fiend? If so, this lacquer may make your heart race! šŸ˜‰

Even though Zoya Carly is part of the Beach & Surf Collection for Summer this year, this shade reminds me more of something that would be included in a fall or winter collection because it’s so dark and rich.

But I’m a firm believer in wearing whatever colour you want regardless of the season. Happiness is key.

I really enjoyed this colour despite being on a bright and neon polish kick lately. Sometimes you need to switch it up so you don’t get burned out on a set of colours. Gotta keep the love going, right?

Key Notes

Zoya Carly Review

Colour

Carly by Zoya is a decadent, royal-looking purple that’s vampy without looking like it’s black in dim lighting. It has metallic shimmer throughout in a reddish magenta and silver that keeps the overall effect from looking too solid.

I like how this isn’t a wimpy purple. It’s got a backbone. This is exactly the kind of colour that I think would look great on many different skin tones. (Thumbs up for easy-going polishes that suit the majority!)

Finish

The finish is a metallic shimmer, so the colour looks like it has a bit of a speckled appearance. It’s not like a traditional metallic that shows tons of brushstrokes.

Applying a top coat over this didn’t really change how this polished looked, which was interesting. Normally a shiny top coat makes a colour pop more. This one popped well all on its own.

Application & Formula

The formula was extremely pigmented. With just one coat, you can nearly cover your entire nail. But with two coats, you can even everything out and achieve full opacity.

Carly by Zoya goes on smoothly, and the formula made it possibly to apply thin coats if that’s your preference. (I tend to use medium coats.)

Pros

  • Deep, rich purple
  • Has interesting metallic shimmer
  • Formula is easy to apply
Cons

  • Zoya is a polish brand that can be tricky for Canadians to get hold of if you don’t shop online & can’t find it at Trade Secrets

Final Verdict: 8/10

For a nice change from the brighter polishes you’ve probably been sporting now that we’re quickly approaching summer, Zoya Carly hits the spot well. It’s dramatic, and it offers a lot of contrast to keep your attention.

Do you still sport your darker polishes even in the warmer months? If you could only wear one nail polish for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Love this one. Have not bought any from the beach/surf collections as I usually would due to some major med issues taking my $ & I hit a wall on all possible storage – cannot find a lot of my polishes in my set up so swore off buying new en mass until I can figure out where I am going to get rid of all my dupes which will free up a lot of space for me.

      Hey beachgal!

Hefty medical expenses suck. I hope that you’re okay!

Sounds like you’re being very responsible, so good for you! Those polishes will turn up. They must’ve sneaked off when you weren’t looking.

GORGEOUS! I never would’ve guess from the press release what a beaufiful color that really is.

      Hey The KnitMaster!

Press releases are pretty deceiving, aren’t they? I feel as though 9 times out of 10, the actual colours are better than in the promos.

Gorgeous purple, I love it. Doesn’t look madly unique but it’s such a beautiful colour and love that it’s part of a summer collection

      Hey Cali!

It’s lovely when companies just put out colours they know we’ll enjoy instead of adhering to strict season-colour rules! šŸ™‚

      Hey Carmela!

You’re right – it may not be the most unique shade. Hehe, but since we’re both avid nail-polish addicts…err…collectors, that might have something to do with it. šŸ˜› Haha, years ago, if I saw a purple like this, it would be very unique in my book because of my much-smaller stash.

If I could only wear one color for the rest of my life, it would be OPI Lincoln Park at Midnight. I love vampy purples so naturally, I love this one too. I’m not sure if its too similar to my already big collection of vampy purples or not though!

Thanks for reminding me! That’s a colour I’ve had in my stash for years and still haven’t tried. Oh, so many polishes and so little time. šŸ˜‰

Wow! I love purple and DON’T wear it enough.
I need to do another vampy look after seeing your post… I can’t get over how awesome this looks on you. Reminds me a smidge of enigmatic by CultNails? ;D

If I had to pick only one shade to wear… at my age having to make this choice would most likely cause such high heart palpitations that I would be spared making such an impossible choice šŸ˜‰
