Nail Art Tutorial: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Nails

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Nails Tutorial & SwatchesSometimes inspiration hits me between the eyes when I least expect it. *Ouch* Hehe…

Originally I was just going to do some nail stamping with Bundle Monster Image Plate BM-206. But when I finished my nails, the more I looked at the pattern, the more I thought about Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles! (I used to watch that show with my brother when I was little.)

The nail-art light bulb turned on. Eureka! Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Nails were born!

From index finger to pinkie, let me introduce you to the pizza-eating-ass-whooping-sewage-dwelling crew: Donatello, Leonardo, Raphael, and Michelangelo.

This design is extremely easy to do, and it’s pretty fast to do, too. However, the one major drawback of this nail art is that it requires lots of different polish colours.

But…for those who have the supplies, I’d love for you to try it out and show me how yours turn out! πŸ™‚

And before I continue…I have one very important thing to say: Heroes in a half shell! Turtle power! πŸ˜› Haha, I’m such a nerd, I know…

Nail Art Tutorial: Bee Nails

Bee Nails Nail Art Tutorial, Swatches & PicturesWhat’s all the buzzin’ about? Pipe it down! πŸ˜›

Today I bring you some new (and easy) nail art: Bee Nails! Are they the bee’s knees or the bee’s elbows?

This is a design that I’ll show you step-by-step how to recreate. These yellow bandits will be ready in no time!

All you’ll need is a yellow polish (I used OPI Need Sunglasses?), a black striper and/or polish, a white polish, and a dotting tool.

Heh…if you look closely at the swatches of this, you’ll notice that I accidentally gave one of my bees a cataract! πŸ™ Whoopsie! No hard feelings, right, Bee-atris? πŸ˜‰

But hopefully you still like the way it looks. And, hey, maybe seeing isn’t always bee-lieving! (Okay, okay! I hear you groaning…I’ll stop with the corny puns.) Continue reading

OPI The Muppets Holiday Collection Glitter PolishesI’ve never posted a press release for anything before on Swatch And Learn. But when I received one for the upcoming OPI The Muppets Holiday 2011 Collection along with images to share with you, I went berserk!

(What can I say? The power of polish compels me! And I’m not looking for a lacquer exorcist.) πŸ˜›

Please let me know whether or not you would like to see press releases and promo pictures like these in the future on my blog or not.

Wait, is that bad? I don’t care! Let’s do it! Okay? πŸ˜‰

OPI Bubble Bath Swatches & Review

OPI Bubble Bath Swatches & ReviewHere’s a demure polish that’s way outside my comfort zone. It’s the popular OPI Bubble Bath.

Seeing this polish on my fingernails was strange – like being transported into an episode of The Twilight Zone…except not nearly as cool.

I’ve had it in my stash ever since I got into nail lacquer more seriously, but I only busted it out now. That shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone considering my swatching history.

Truth be told, I’m much more comfortable having a bright or loud hue on my nails than I am having something soft on them.

And while I’ve seen people embrace the Mannequin Hands trend, I couldn’t really see myself joining in. But sometimes you just gotta try to see if you like it.

While I think the colour doesn’t clash with my skin tone like I thought it would, I’m still not completely loving it on me.

Because it’s so discrete, every time I looked down at my nails, I felt like I needed to paint them. I felt naked! It was like wearing a lace bra over your t-shirt. I felt very self-conscious (and un-Lady-Gaga-like).

Maybe it just takes some more getting used to. I’ll try other Mannequin Hand-esque polishes to find out for sure. Perhaps I’ll grow to appreciate them. Or maybe you can take the horse to the water, but you can’t make it drink…haha! πŸ˜›

Do you like soft, muted polishes like this, or are you like me and usually gravitate toward bold hues? Continue reading

Nail Art Tutorial: Ladybug Nails

Ladybug Nails Nail Art TutorialThis is what I wore over the weekend.

These Ladybug Nails were so easy to do, and you just need 3 colours of polish. Chances are that you already have these in your stash.

If you’re looking for simple nail art, this is definitely it. There aren’t many steps, and you don’t have to be good at drawing. It’s just dots, stripes, and painting the tip of your nails.

Some designs are more complicated and can be a challenge replicating it using your non-dominant hand. The ladybug nail art is easy-peasy to do on both hands. You just need the right tools.

I got this idea from a cutepolish YouTube video, which I’ll link to at the bottom of my post.

OPI Mermaid’s Tears Swatches & Review

OPI Mermaid's Tears Swatches & ReviewNail polish is colour therapy in a bottle.

Whenever I need my spirits lifted, I reach for neon nail lacquer, but sometimes a more subdued shade like this does the trick.

OPI Mermaid’s Tears is a gorgeous aqua, seafoam-green creme polish that’s on a similar wavelength as China Glaze For Audrey, but not a dupe.

This came out with the OPI Pirates of the Caribbean Collection, and it was one of the colours that had lots of people buzzing.

At first I wasn’t going to get this, but the more I thought about it (and saw it on others), I couldn’t resist! πŸ˜›

Mermaid’s Tears will have you crying for joy – this is bright and cheerful without being loud. The colour gets attention like a pretty lady, but without the catcalls from the construction workers. Continue reading

OPI It’s My Year Swatches & Review

OPI It's My Year Swatches & ReviewSometimes I’m quite simple – sparkly things catch my attention.

If I were a moth, I’m sure I wouldn’t survive for longer than a few minutes because I’d fly to my death on the 60-watt bulb. Lighhhht! Prettttty!

When I caught sight of OPI It’s My Year, I knew that it had to be mine. And when I wore this plum polish packed with golden shimmer, it didn’t disappoint!

This polish looks very different depending on the lighting, so you’ll never get bored. Continue reading
