Nail Art Tutorial: Cookie Monster Nails

Cookie Monster Nails Nail Art SwatchesFor a while, I wanted to create Cookie Monster Nails. But it was only until now that I went ahead and did it.

These don’t exactly look like Cookie Monster, though, so I’ll say that they’re inspired by him. 🙂

Only after I started painting did I Google photos of other people’s Cookie Monster nail art, and I kinda wish I looked first because my attempt would’ve turned out better.

Had I not painted my entire nail blue and allowed the googly eyes to sit on top of the blue part, it would’ve looked more like the fun Sesame Street character. If you’re confused, check out the link at the bottom of my post. I’ll show you how someone else did it and how hers look more recognizable.

I still really like this manicure because it’s silly, and I think it’s really fun to have smiling faces on my fingertips.

What do you think? Would you try this? Should I try some other Sesame Street characters? Continue reading

Milani One Coat Glitter Red Sparkle Review & Swatches

** This post was written by Fiona. She no longer blogs for Swatch And Learn. However, Mary still continues to blog and will be happy to reply to your comment. **

Pssst. Can you keep a secret? I’ve never actually finished watching or reading The Wizard of Oz. I mean, I know how the story goes – sort of. I know the creatures Dorothy and Toto meet along the way. But I don’t know who’s missing a heart, a brain, a couple of fingers… OK, you may drop your jaw now.

What I do remember is the pair of ruby slippers Dorothy was wearing. When I saw Milani One Coat Glitter Red Sparkle, those slippers were the first thing I thought of! Having tried two other colors from the same collection, I was sure that Red Sparkle would twinkle brighter than those sequined ruby slippers!

Big sigh though. I wish I had worn a top coat with this color – it would’ve brought out the sparkles even more. I was lazy! Continue reading

Haul of Shame: Cherry Culture Madness

** This post was written by Fiona. She no longer blogs for Swatch And Learn. However, Mary still continues to blog and will be happy to reply to your comment. **

I feel so ashamed of this post, but I guess that’s why it’s called a Haul of Shame, right? A few weeks ago, Cherry Culture had one of their frequent 20% sales. I was a moth, and the CC sale was the candle. I couldn’t resist. I’m crazy… and not the good kind.

I think it’s safe to say that you should never shop if you’re happy/sad/excited/hungry/mad/crazy/depressed/bored/Fiona. I tend to buy things I don’t really need just for momentary satisfaction. And then I look at my drawers full of barely used stuff and faint (not literally).

Anyway, without further ado, here are my Haul of Shames. Please don’t laugh at me. Also, at the bottom of this post is my first weak attempt at some nail art; it is called “Who Ate the Fish?” (Please don’t laugh at me for that, either!) Continue reading

Milani One Coat Glitter Purple Gleam Review & Swatches

** This post was written by Fiona. She no longer blogs for Swatch And Learn. However, Mary still continues to blog and will be happy to reply to your comment. **

Is that a party on your nails, or are you just glad to see me? Milani One Coat Glitter Purple Gleam glitters brighter than a disco ball – an awesome purple disco ball, that is! It shines, it glimmers, and it glitters like mad crazy.

It’s one of those nail colors that’d stop you typing mid word just to look at it. (Oh, look. I just did that.) I previously reviewed Silver Dazzle and loved how it just gleams subtly for some effortless sexiness. Purple Gleam is at the opposite end of the spectrum. It’s pretty party purple that screams at the top of its lungs, “Look at me!”

While I really enjoy the shade, there is one aspect of Milani Purple Gleam that I really dislike. It’s the finish on my nails after the polish dries… but it’s not a deal breaker for me. I still like this hue!

Milani One Coat Glitter Silver Dazzle Review & Swatches

** This post was written by Fiona. She no longer blogs for Swatch And Learn. However, Mary still continues to blog and will be happy to reply to your comment. **

Alright. Let’s see if I can take my eyes off my nails long enough to write this review on Milani One Coat Glitter Silver Dazzle. This charcoal gray decked with silver glitter has my eyes glued to my nails ever since I put it on. (I’ve literally stopped mid-convo to look at my nails.)

At first I couldn’t decide if I like it or not though. Sometimes I think it’s awesome cool that my nails are encrusted with glitter. It totally reminds me of a black sequin dress Tina Turn would wear. Other times I wonder why I’ve painted my nails with black sludge because there’s sooo much glitter that the finish is gritty and uneven… Continue reading

Milani Runway Eyes Blue Lagoon Shadow Review & Swatches

** This post was written by Fiona. She no longer blogs for Swatch And Learn. However, Mary still continues to blog and will be happy to reply to your comment. **

Hi precious readers! Today, I share with you one of my favorite blue eyeshadows. It’s not by an expensive brand. In fact this little gem cost me under $6 USD! Milani Runway Eyes Blue Lagoon is one of those affordable gems that I love!

Of course, the price is nothing if the product ain’t no good. I wouldn’t pin the Best Eyeshadow blue ribbon on this for staying power, but the color is stunning.

I’ve been on a major green-shadow kick, but now I’m back to blue. It’s a color that can look ice cold or softly angelic…when done correctly. Wear it wrong, and it could totally give off a retro vibe (and not the good kind). But not with this baby – you won’t have to worry about that! Continue reading

Milani Jewel FX Silver Review & Swatches

** This post was written by Fiona. She no longer blogs for Swatch And Learn. However, Mary still continues to blog and will be happy to reply to your comment. **

Ahhhh! I made a mistake in getting Milani Jewel FX Silver. It’s not because it’s a bad product, but I have a mild phobia of dots and holes (don’t laugh). I didn’t think that the glitter would resemble dots. It creeps me out to look at my nails right now, but I’ll tough it out to do this review.

If I don’t dislike dots, I seriously could adore this Milani nail polish. It adds a beautiful dazzle to the nails and definitely makes any dull color more interesting. Come see what’s good and what’s bad about it! (If you have a serious case of trypophobia, you might not want to look at the picture of the bottle. If you are scared of holes and don’t know what “trypophobia” means, don’t Google it!) Continue reading
