Slatkin & Co. Marshmallow Fireside Candle Review & Pictures

Slatkin & Co. Marshmallow Fireside Candle Review & PicturesInitially I went into Bath & Body Works to pick up the large 3-wick S’mores candle since I already tested out the mini version of it and liked it. But then I got sidetracked and forgot about my main purpose. What else is new?

There it was, beckoning to me with a sweetness that I couldn’t resist! Slatkin & Co. Marshmallow Fireside seemed like a scent that was right up my alley.

After I eagerly popped the top off this baby, I took a whiff of this new fall scent. My nose was greeted with a soft marshmallow scent.

Did I want to marry it? Did I use it as a paperweight? There’s only one way to find out!

Slatkin & Co. Marshmallow Fireside Candle Review

If a scent could curtsey, that’s exactly what Marshmallow Fireside would do! It’s a dainty, soft, light-as-air fragrance that I can’t picture would be offensive to anyone’s nose.

You can mildly detect marshmallows and the smell of burning wood at a campfire.

Scent Throw

While fall scents, like the Slatkin & Co. Leaves Candle, are rich and strong, Marshmallow Fireside dances around the fire like a woodland fairy. It’s so faint that you really have to take a deep breath to detect anything in the air.

So while I appreciate the concept behind this yummy fragrance, I feel like they should’ve amped up its strength to make it worthwhile.

I’ve been burning it a few times since I bought it (3 hours each time) just to make sure that the fragrance didn’t get stronger the longer I burned it. Unfortunately, it remained mild.

Good news – it burned perfectly! Sometimes, with other candles, the flame dies out when the pool of wax gets deeper, but this one didn’t have that problem. But, I think it varies also from candle to candle. It probably has to do with the placement of the wicks.

I burned the candle for 3 hours each time I used it. The pool of wax melted evenly – no tunneling/canyon effect. Also, the wax hardly went down even after using it for a total of 9 hours. That’s why I generally like Slatkin & Co. candles – they really last a long time, so you get your money’s worth.

The design is simple and elegant. It’s not flashy or colourful, so it’s easy to fit into any home decor. Besides, the picture is printed on a label that you can remove if you want.

I always leave my labels on, though, because I like to see the picture and remember the name of the candle.

On the label, Marshmallow Fireside features 3 large, yummy-looking marshmallows being toasted over a fire. It makes me crave s’mores.

Seasonal Availability

This is a new fall 2011 candle scent, and I’m not sure if it’s a limited edition or if it’ll be brought back next year.

  • Mild, toasted marshmallow scent that isn’t offensive
  • Good value when on sale
  • Smooth, even burning
  • Simple & elegant design
  • Scent is so mild that it can be not strong enough for large rooms even when using the 3-wick candle

Final Verdict: 5/10

As much as I wanted to love the Slatkin & Co. Marshmallow Fireside Candle, it was very underwhelming. I think that a large 3-wick candle should have a stronger scent throw and intensity. Because of this, I’m considering exchanging this for a different scent (like a back-up of the Frosted Cupcake Candle, which I absolutely love). But maybe I’ll just keep it and burn it alongside another candle.

Are you a sucker for Marshmallow scents, too? If you weren’t completely in love with a candle, would you return/exchange it? Have you done this at Bath & Body Works before?

I’m not too big on candles (paranoid about starting a fire, haha!) but I love fragrance oils and scent diffusers. 🙂 I prefer my scents to be more of a “clean/crisp” or relaxing kind of smell. Anything sweet smelling will have me running to my chocolate stash and I’ll end up bigger than a whale. 😛

Too bad the scent was too underwhelming. I do like my scents to be noticeable too. Do you know if they carry scented oils? I never bother to check when I go there as I only usually stock up on their hand soap and hand sanitizers. 🙂

      Hey Carmela!

Haha, I’m actually still scared about starting a fire. I keep checking the candle every so often ‘just in case’. 😛

Yes, Bath & Body Works has a lot of scented oils available. You can check some of them out here: I’ve never tried their scented oils, though, so I can’t speak about if they’re worth the money or not.

Y’know, it was Bath & Body Works that started my candle obsession. Prior to maybe a year ago, I didn’t care about candles and didn’t see the point. Now I burn those babies like no tomorrow! 😛

I love your candle reviews! I’m afraid they are going to start a candle obsession though. 🙂 That’s too bad this one has a soft scent. The title makes it sound amazing. I’m going to have to run to my Bath and Body Works for the smores or cupcake one. I’ve never tried their candles before but sounds like they are great for the most part!

      Hey Katie!

I’m glad you like these kind of reviews. Hehe, I have a TON of candles (all from Bath & Body Works) that I still need to review sometime. It’s pretty crazy when I think back to a year ago when I thought that candles were just wax and nothing special. Now I’m a hoarder. 😛

Yes, Frosted Cupcake is incredible! It has become my all-time favourite Slatkin & Co. candle, so give that one a go for sure if you’re into gourmand, sweet scents. The only problem is that it makes me want to eat a cupcake every time I burn it. That wouldn’t be a problem if only I always had cupcakes on hand. 😛

Hmm…you might like this Marshmallow Fireside one, though. Scent is so personal. I just feel like it’s way too light to be noticeable.

Love the reviews; nice to have insight into the fragrances. I have to disagree though with the Marshmallow Fireside. This three wicked candle totally goes through two rooms of my home and actually goes up the stairs slightly. Each member of my family loves it and even my friends have run out to buy them some. I’ve stalked the stores waiting for more sales so I can buy them up.

      Hey Cathy!

Thank you – I’m glad that you’ve been enjoying my reviews. 🙂

Hmm…it’s possible that I got a dud because it certainly didn’t fill up my little living room at all and I had to strain to even notice it. I like Frosted Cupcake because it’s sweet, yummy, and much stronger! I wish I got a strong one like you did – it’s a nice fragrance if it’s more noticeable.

LOVE your candle reviews, they’re great & contain a lot of information. Thanks for that. I also think the MF candle from B&B should be much stronger, but I’m addicted to it none the less. Lovveee the smell of it. The first one I bought did not burn all that well, very small flames on the wicks. I’m burning 2 now & they are burning much better.
I also love the Apple Crumble B&B candle, but it burns horribly! Has that ”drowning wick” problem that some B&B candles have.
Try the Gingerbread, it’s pretty yummy!

      Hey Andrea!

I’m glad that you enjoy reading them. Hehehe, I have a little addiction to scented candles all because of some people I worked with who were always burning one. Then I tried it and got hooked instantly. Plus Slatkin & Co. keep coming out with yummy candles, so it’s really hard to resist trying their new ones. 🙂

I bought the Gingerbread one you mentioned a month or so ago, but haven’t burned it yet. In the jar, it does smell sooooo good. I really should burn it soon.

    Hi Mary,

I came across this review when I was googling to find a Scentsy or Scentsational scent similar to this one because I love it. I really do think you did have a “dud” because I have severe allergies which have diminished my sense of smell greatly and I find this scent to be very strong. I absolutely love it, but I hate that the candle is in a glass jar which I find wasteful when the candle is gone. I don’t have glass recycling in my city. Anyway, your review is very thorough, great job!

      Hey Kathie!

Yes, I’m really thinking that I did in fact get a dud. So many people RAVE about this candle, but mine was so disappointing. I wanted to like it so badly, and I wanted it to have a strong smell like your candle. Hmm…now I may need to try tracking another one down to give it a second chance.

Thank you for saying that about my review! 🙂 It makes me really happy to know that you found it useful.

    This is sooooo True !!
I got it in Dubai mall and now back to France impossible to get it More …
They do not ship to France …
Perfect Smell and also Perfect Burn …
    Your review is True
    Take care

      Hey Rach/Castelli!

I really wish I could get another one of these. People have said it’s stronger, but mine seemed like a dud because it was faint. I really would love if it were stronger.

But I’m glad that you’re enjoying yours so much! 🙂

  7. Kristy Shehan

Thanks for your review. This is my FAVORTIE candle of all time. I was a little suprised by your saying it wasnt strong enough. As soon as I light mine, I can smell it all through my house. People always comment on it when they walk in and its burning. I hope it comes out again next fall, I will buy enough to last me the whole year!!! 🙂 Thanks for your reviews!!

    1. Mary Post author

      Hey Kristy Shehan!

A lot of people seem to be saying the same thing about the potency of the scent like you are. I think the candle I bought must’ve been a dud because the scent was incredibly faint, and I wish it were stronger.

I also hope it comes out again because I’d like to try a non-dud! 🙂 I did like the scent.
