A while ago, I wore Pretty Serious The Crimson Pearl, and I was really feeling it because it’s dark, but not one of those near-black polishes, and it has subtle shimmer that’s like a secret only the wearer sees.
As usual, I really enjoyed wearing this Pretty Serious nail polish because I don’t have anything that’s exactly like this. Plus I support indie nail polishes in general. (It’s always nice to see indie nail polishes because they express the passion of the nail-polish industry.)
The other day, I was thinking about how fortunate I am to have awesome readers like you who allow me to express myself. 🙂 I get e-mails from readers all over the world who encourage me to, well, be me! 🙂 It’s an awesome feeling knowing that you support me! Thank you!

Pretty Serious The Crimson Pearl Review
Colour
The Crimson Pearl by Pretty Serious is a purple plum with a little blue-purple shimmer. The shimmer isn’t dominant, but it lends a delicate touch that adds to the mystique of the polish.
The lacquer has as vampy vibe, but it’s not so dark that its mistaken for a black polish. You can clearly see its plummy personality.
Finish
It has subtle shimmer scattered to keep it from looking flat. Think of it like an elevated creme polish. 🙂
Application & Formula
As with most Pretty Serious Cosmetics nail polish, I found The Crimson Pearl to apply very well. It went on creamy, smooth, and pigmented, with just two coats.
Two coats covered very well, so I didn’t feel the need to apply a third.

Final Verdict: 8/10
If you’re looking for a dark nail polish that doesn’t look like a straight-up black lacquer, this is a good choice. It’s vampy, yet the subtle shimmer adds an interesting twist.
What’s your favourite dark polish that isn’t a near-black lacquer? Do you like subtle shimmer, or do you prefer polish that has lots of shimmer and/or glitter?
Mary I love that color! Looks beautiful.
Hey Robbie!
It’s vampy, and I’ve been really feel the darker polishes recently. Glad you’re digging it, too!
I love a nice subtle shimmer in a polish. And the colour is just amazing. What a beauty!
Hey Firegirl!
It’s nice to have a little shimmer – a secret for just the wearer!
Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment! 🙂 Hope you’ll visit again soon.
Such a great, Vampy color and it looks gorgeous on you! I see alot of potential for Halloween designs using this polish. Thanks for sharing it with us!
Hey Melissa!
Oohhh, I need to start doing some Hallowe’en designs. Are there any tutorials that you’d like to see? Let me know, and I’ll see what I can do.
This kind of looks like CrowsToes Indian Summer. Are you familiar with this polish? If so, do you know how it compares to Crimson Pearl?
Hey Amy!
No, I’m not familiar with CrowsToes nail polish, but I took a quick look, and wow, they have some very beautiful nail polishes!
Only judging from the swatches I’ve seen online, I’d say that The Crimson Pearl isn’t as flashy as Indian Summer. They’re very different, so you could justify owning both. Hope that helps!
your swatches are (as always) perfection! this is a beautiful color, and many have raved about it.. but something about a purple polish with a blue flash gives me the willies.. and idk what it is. probly a flaw in my genetics lmao.. i’ll never buy this polish, sadly.. it makes me think 1992.. being 10 years old and buying cheap polish at the drug store idk. i run from that blue flash whenever i see it. it’s my age, i guess.
but i love your reviews- i love how you get creative and sentimental over polish. that really strikes a chord with all of us polish lovers. a review from you is like a gem in a pile of reviews.. so please keep doing yer thing. no other person has inspired me to purchase polish and step outside the box like you have.
ps- i own your polish ‘swatch and learn’ and i cherish it. one of my most fav polishes ever. every time i put it on i think of you <3
Hey Ashley!
Oh my gosh – thank you for boosting my spirits with your high praise! 🙂 I am so fortunate to be surrounded by positive, supportive readers like you who know that embracing diversity is important. We can still share our love for polish, even if our tastes in colour may vary.
Haha, when I think back to 1992, I remember wearing soft pinks. Then, a few years later, I went to the opposite end and would wear a NYC navy blue layered under sparkly silver glitter. (Even to this day, the combination is a favourite, although with different polishes. It’s one of the nostalgic combinations. I used to repeat the same look for weeks straight!)
I’m glad that you appreciate how I get personal about polish and don’t stick to just talking about the polish. While there’s nothing wrong with being direct and keeping the focus 100% on the polish, for this blog, I enjoy adding random bits about myself because I view lacquer as more than just something I enjoy wearing. It represents a lot, and it is so powerful in that it can boost your mood, help you express yourself in a colourful way, and even be therapeutic when you’re having a bad day or year!
Your comment made me grin from ear to ear, and I really appreciate you stepping out and taking the effort to spread happiness. (I find that a lot of people find it easier to spread negativity, so you are like a beacon of sunshine!)
P.S. I’m THRILLED that you are enjoying the nail polish I designed! 😀 Knowing that something that brings me joy also does the same for another is the best feeling in the world.
This is a beautiful polish that’s perfect for the upcoming months! It think it looks very nice on you!
