OPI Ski Slope Sweetie Swatches & Review

OPI Ski Slope Sweetie Swatches & ReviewOPI Ski Slope Sweetie from the Mariah Carey Holiday Collection reminds me of the way the sun kisses the powdery mountains on a winter’s day.

When I was in the 8th grade, my school retreat was held at a ski resort. We all went skiing daily, and it was a lot of fun and great exercise!

Haha, I remember being absolutely terrified of going down the really steep slopes. Literally, I went along one that was nearly a straight line when you looked down from the top! Near the bottom, it also had a sharp turn, and you had to really time it right because there was a cliff on the other side!

(You’re supposed to angle your skis like triangles – slowplowing – because then you can control the speed better. Even while doing that, I was scared! Guess I’m no speed demon!)

OPI Ski Slope Sweetie Review

Colour

I love how Ski Slope Sweetie by OPI is a clean white, but it doesn’t feel stark because of the slight yellow flash that mimics the way sunlight reflects upon the snow.

White nail polishes can be really tricky for me to pull off because more often than not, they wind up making my fingers look red (i.e. the dreaded Lobster Hands).

This polish didn’t pull out the red as much as some other polishes. It must be due to the shimmer.

Finish

Ski Slope Sweetie by OPI has an extremely shimmery finish! It has a really cool frosted appearance that looks neat in a lot of lighting. This is the type of nail polish that looks exactly the same whether you wear a top coat or not.

Application & Formula

I applied 3 coats because with 2 coats, I could see some visible nail line. I wanted complete opacity, which is what I got with the final one.

The formula is very smooth and easy to apply – it goes on exactly where you want it to, and I didn’t have to take extra care when applying it.

Layering Experiments

I’m not sure how many of you would actually want to layer this polish, but I was curious, so I went ahead and tried 1 coat over a few different colours. Turns out, I only like the way it looks over the pink and orange. (With the other colours, I feel like it masks too much of the original colour and makes them look too similar.)

Here it is layered over the following shades (left-right): China Glaze Tongue & Chic*, Nicole by OPI Carnival Cotton Candy*, China Glaze Papaya Punch, China Glaze Red-y & Wiling* & Rescue Beauty Lounge Recycle (The ones with the asterisks were provided to me by PR or the company.)

OPI Ski Slope Sweetie Layering Experiments

Pros

  • Very shimmery
  • Has a golden flash, which looks like sunshine on the snow
  • Great formula
  • Can be layered over other colours

Cons

  • Needed 3 coats for complete coverage
  • Sometimes it overwhelms certain colours when using 1 coat layered over them

Final Verdict: 9/10

Wow, I was surprised by how much I loved OPI Ski Slope Sweetie! It definitely not the type of polish that I’m initially drawn to, but I really enjoyed how it made my nails look like snow-capped mountains with the sun shining down on them. OPI did a great job at capturing that effect!

Do you wear white or frosty nail polishes? Have you ever been skiing? Do you prefer skiing or snowboarding? (I’ve never been snowboarding, but it seems scary to me only because both of your feet are locked in place. I like to be able to move each foot independently.)

      Hey Erin!

Oh, thank you! 🙂 What a compliment!

I was surprised how much I liked this one, as light polishes like this usually don’t intrigue me as much as, say, greens! 😉 But this one is really magical!

      Hey Lizzy!

I can see how you think that. It also reminds me of Nicole by OPI Sing You Like a Bee. I’ll have to do a comparison post (or image on Instagram) since they’re similar, but not the same.

Thank you so much! Glad that you found this review helpful!

Yup, it takes many coats, but the finished look is worth it. 🙂 Glad you like it as well!

I bought this even before I read your review, because it was so pretty in the bottle (frosty white) but on my nails, I find that the gold tends to overwhelm the white – instead of frosty white with gold shimmer, it’s simply gold shimmer. It’s very holiday-ish, but not quite what I was expecting.

      Hey Montréalaise!

Really? On my nails, I noticed more of the white and then only some gold, just like how it looked in the bottle. It’s interesting how the same colour can come off as very different on various people.

Sorry to hear that the polish disappointed you. Have you tried China Glaze White Cap? I remember it as being a little like this. Hmm…although it had a lot of golden shimmer, so I’m not sure if it’d lead you down the same path as this one.
