Quick Look: OPI Fifty Shades of Grey Collection Swatches & Bottle Shots

OPI Fifty Shades of Grey CollectionNot long ago, I posted the OPI Fifty Shades of Grey Collection Press Release on here with plenty of information about each colour and the inspiration behind it all. (This collection launches in January 2015.)

Yesterday, I came home from work to find a box from PR with this collection!

I asked on my social media if you wanted to see theΒ OPI Fifty Shades of Grey CollectionΒ or the Essie Cashmere Matte Collection for 2015, since I received both on Wednesday.

At the time when I wrote this post, it looked like OPI was slightly dominating. (For those who voted to see the Essie collection, don’t worry! I’ll be featuring a Quick Look post on that soon because there was a lot of interest in it. Please stay tuned! The wait won’t be long.)

My pick just from the way the colours initially looked when I saw them in person for the first time? Shine for Me is the standout of this collection! It’s really sparkly and has blue particles that complement the grey. (I am looking forward to trying this one out and to seeing if its slight texture can be tamed with a top coat.)

Grey nail polish is sometimes challenging for me to sport, so this variety will help me narrow down the kinds that are more flattering on me. Should be interesting!

Haha, and in typical OPI fashion, there’s a red. It’s a great punch of colour in this collection, and you know that OPI has nailed the formula of red nail polishes! πŸ˜‰

P.S. Whenever I see the name of this collection, the old song by fellow Torontonian, Amanda Marshall, “Shades of Gray” plays in my head. It was really popular on the radio when I was in high school, so it’s nostalgic for me! (And it has a great, strong message.)

Which is your favourite from the OPI Fifty Shades of Grey Collection? If you could create a nail-polish collection based on a book, what would the book be? And what would the colours look like?

It’s official-I want them all! These are awesome colors and the tie in to the movie doesn’t hurt either. LOL It’s so cool that you get to try out the newest colors before they hit shelves. Thanks for sharing them with us!

      Hey Melissa!

Yes, I am very grateful that I get to play around with polishes before they make it to the stores. But you know what’s even better? Sharing it with awesome readers like you! It’s fun to read your reactions to the new collections, and I love sharing the excitement with people who love nail polish as much as I do. The nail-polish community is strong and friendly!

      Hey Jessica!

In natural light (i.e. not the camera’s flash in this post), you can see more of a significant difference between them. If I review both, it might be good for me to also include comparison swatches. Cement the Deal is definitely lighter than Embrace the Grey. It might help others see the differences more easily.

Embrace the Gray and Dark Side of the Mood are the ones I’m most likely to get, although Shine for Me is pretty too. I’d do a collection based on the Kate Daniels series of books by Illona Andrews; in the series each type of magic [vampire, shapeshifter, divine, witch etc] is represented by a different colour [my mind has blanked out on which is which right now], so each supernatural group could have it’s own polish…

      Hey Amanda!

The inspiration behind the collection you would create sounds really intriguing! I can see where you’re going with it, and it sounds like it could be a real hit because of all the wild colours/combinations you could do to represent each type of magic!

I’ve died and gone to polish heaven. I love gray polish and now an entire collection devoted to gray!!! Of course, I will want them all. With exception of the red.

      Hey Cindi!

Haha, yes, then this collection was made for you. (Think of the red like the exclamation mark at the end of a nail-polish sentence then.) πŸ˜‰

Lovely collection, can’t wait to get a set!! Such great ideas to show with these beautiful polishes πŸ™‚
Since you asked, if I had made the collection I would have:
A red cream for passion/the red room
    A white for puirty
A satin/metallic silver-ish white for the silk tie
Black, light gray, and dark gray for all of Christian’s moods
Saphire Polish with silver and light blue glitter for Anastasia’s eyes.
And I would just have to add a stencil or charm of a riding crop.

      Hey Scarlotte Noles!

The sapphire polish that you mentioned sounds particularly beautiful! πŸ™‚ Thanks for participating and dreaming up some gorgeous nail polishes. Who knows? Maybe one day you WILL put out your own nail-polish collection! πŸ˜‰
