This evening, I have the OPI Fifty Shades of Grey Collection Press Release!
There are six nail polishes in the OPI Fifty Shades of Grey Collection, which launches in January 2015. (I feel like all of them are good staples to have because you can easily combine them with other colours. There’s nothing too crazy.)
You’d probably expect that with a name like “Fifty Shades of Grey”, this collection would be all greys, but one is red.
I’ve never read the novel by E.L. James. Have you?
Truth be told, I have no desire to read it, either. (No offence to those who really love the book. We all have different tastes, and that’s just not the type of book that I’m drawn to.)
Actually, I usually gravitate toward books that make me laugh out loud because while there are plenty of hilarious writers out there, making someone laugh out loud just by your writing and not by clever verbal delivery or funny facial expressions is pretty challenging. It’s a talent that I really admire.
Recently, I picked up “Yes Please” by Amy Poehler, which I’m really excited to dive into. (You may remember that I posted a photo on Instagram and mentioned how I redeemed a bunch of my Shoppers Optimum Points, and one of the things I got was that book.)
I’ve read a few pages of Yes Please so far, and she already had me laughing so hard because the preface is so sarcastic! 🙂 (Any other Amy Poehler fans out there?)
But enough about what I’m currently reading! Let’s get on with the nail polish already, right? 😉
There are 6 shades in the OPI Fifty Shades of Grey Collection:
- My Silk Tie
- Romantically Involved
- Dark Side of the Mood
- Shine for Me
- Cement the Deal
- Embrace the Gray
Below is the official press release sent to me by PR:
OPI to Release New Limited-Edition Nail Lacquers
Inspired by Universal Pictures and Focus Features’
Movie Fifty Shades of Grey
OPI announced today the launch of six new limited-edition nail lacquers inspired by Universal Pictures and Focus Features’ Fifty Shades of Grey, the hotly anticipated film adaptation of the worldwide bestselling book by E L James. Available in January 2015, the collection includes five gray nail lacquers in varying shades and textures, along with one rich red hue. Fifty Shades of Grey arrives in theaters on Valentine’s Day weekend of 2015.
“The Fifty Shades of Grey book series is one of the greatest publishing sensations of all time, with more than 100 million copies sold to date. Fans have fallen in love with the characters and are eager to see them translated onscreen,” explains Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI Co-Founder & Brand Ambassador. “The collection captures the mood, feelings and emotions of this film with assorted hues of gray, ranging from glittering and gleaming silvers to cool gray crèmes to dark charcoal. The collection also features a rich crème red to represent passion.
“Color is so much more than something to admire. The colors we choose to wear represent our personalities, our moods, our feelings,” continues Weiss-Fischmann. “The collection bottles the film’s passion, luxury and power in six beautiful nail lacquers ideal for expressing sensuality through beauty.”

Which is your favourite out of the bunch? (For me, it’s Shine for Me!) Have you read Fifty Shades of Grey? What books are you currently reading? Are there any funny/good books you’d recommend I read?
Abeautifulmess.com is reading the amy poehler book this month! You should join the discussion 🙂
I agree with you that 50 shades isnt my kind of book but the colors are great! Im liking embrace the grey!
Hey Jennifer!
That’s pretty cool! 🙂 Thanks for letting me know. I may stop by!
Hi,
I was like you: no desire to read this book. But all the critics I saw regarding the choice of the actor made me a little curious. So I start with the first book and ended reading 3 of them in one month. So, now, I’m so excited to see my favorite nail polish brand make a collection inspired by this story.
Thank you to share your passion with us!
Manon
Hey Manouska99!
I’m happy to hear that you’re excited about this collection, especially because you probably get more out of it since you’ve read the book and know the background. I can only look at it from a nailphile perspective! 😉
It’s my pleasure, and thank you for taking the time to read my posts and to comment!
Thank you for sharing this. I’ve been waiting to see these and I’m not disappointed. I don’t have any grey polishes and I really like all of these. I have so many red creams so I’m not sure about getting that one, but the little set with all six shades would be such a smart addition to my collection!
Hey Broush61!
The mini nail-polish sets are always so cute and collectible! Plus they’re a great way to try out more colours without spending a lot on the full-size bottles.
I hope that you enjoy the shades!
Well I’ll be honest too, I’m not very happy that they even made a 50 shades collection. I don’t plan on buying any for that reason alone.
Lately I’ve been reading more serious books, but “Yes Please” is on my to-read list!
Nail Polish Society recently posted: Arcane Lacquer Respite Lane and Anti Gravity
Hey Nail Polish Society!
I understand your choice to not buy these polishes because they’re linked to a book that you may not support. Just like when nail companies collaborate with celebrities, if you are turned off by that celebrity who is a spokesperson, it can be enough to forego even the prettiest polish.
Enjoy reading Yes Please! 🙂
I’m so with you. I read these books to see what the big deal was, and I’m still wondering haha. Part of me is so disappointed at all the 50 shades collections coming out BUT I love grey so I’m torn up about how much I want these. The struggle is real!
Hey Kathryn!
Hehe, my nailphile senses are telling me that at least one of these will ‘jump’ into your cart at some point and follow you home to your family of polishes! 😉
I am really excited for this collection – will probably end up purchasing most of them because I am really loving grey polishes lately. And we share the same sentiment about the book; I have never read it, not my type of genre. The red one really has me as I have a weakness for OPI Reds 🙂
Hey Zenorah!
First of all: It was lovely hanging out with you yesterday! 🙂
I can see you combining the red with the greys in a single manicure. It would look amazing on you!
My favorite “laugh out loud” books are the Stephanie Plum books by Janet Evanovich. Gray isn’t a color I like for nail polish, so I will probably pass on this collection.
Hey Lisa!
Thanks for the suggestion – I will check out Janet Evanovich’s books. Never read any of her work!
If you’re going to check out Janet Evanovich’s books, may I suggest the very first one in the Stephanie Plum series, “One for the Money”? It’s LOL hilarious and a great introduction to her work. There are now 18 (I believe) books in the series and I think that while the first ones are all good, the later books tend to be repetitive and uninspired.
Thank you soooooo much for the suggestion! I will be sure to check that series out!
Lately all I reach for is grey polish so I’m really excited to see this collection. I like that there are five very different shades of grey plus a sparkly one…can’t wait to get these on my nails!
Hey Traci!
Oh, well this collection is just screaming your name then! 😉
I hope you really enjoy wearing the polishes!
As a fan of the books, I was beyond psyched to see this collection announced. I will DEFINETLY be getting the mini set of all 6 and probably a few of the full size colors, especially Dark side of the Mood; Embrace the Gray; and Cement the Deal. These are gorgeous! Thanks for sharing them with us!!
Hey Melissa!
The mini set is sooooo adorable, isn’t it? I like seeing mini-sized beauty products – so collectible!
I’m on my library’s waiting list for Yes Please right now–I can’t wait to read it! (I loved Bossypants by Tina Fey, and so I’m hoping this one will be just as funny. Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? by Mindy Kaling is another hilarious book I’ve recently enjoyed.) Anyway, when I first heard about OPI’s 50 Shades of Grey collection I honestly thought it was a joke. I’m not much of a grey fan, but I like the look of all the shades together, including the red. The collection kind of has a sexy, old-fashioned feel to it.
Hey Jessica!
I bet that Yes Please is incredibly popular at the library (and rightfully so)!
Yay – you read Bossypants! I read that and was laughing out loud. Tina Fey is hilarious!
Since you and I seem to have similar taste in reading, after I finish Yes Please, I’m going to take your recommendation and check out that book by Mindy Kaling. Thanks you so much for the recommendation. I love discovering new and funny books.
Awesome, hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
I’ve never read the book. I like erotica if it’s really well written, but since it’s based on Twilight fan fiction, and I’m not a Twilight fan, I’m not interested. I also don’t find the lead actors for the film paricularly charismatic or sexy, so I’ll pass on that, too. I doubt I’ll buy any of the polishes because I don’t care for grey and I already have way too many reds. I love Amy P and you are so right, making someone L-O-L just through the written word is quite a gift. I love to laugh so I may pick up her book at the library. (I’m too broke from buying polish and makeup to afford new books, haha!)
Hey Mary!
You know what? I’ve never even read any erotica or even romance novels, and I’ve read a lot of books in my time! They just never call out to me, no matter how racy the covers are. Haha! 😉
Yay – another Amy Poehler fan! *High-five* There’s probably a waiting list at your library, so definitely ask to be on the list. It’ll be worth the wait! I hope you really enjoy reading it.
If you enjoy well written erotica stay far away from 50 shades. It’s so bad haha. Have you read the Original Sinners books by Tiffany Reisz though?
I can’t wait to read Yes, Please! I plan on diving into it when I’m done work for the holidays. The last laugh out loud book that I read was Wallbanger by Alice Clayton. It is romance but it’s hilarious. I read it twice just because it was so funny.
Hey Kathryn!
Interesting – a romance novel that’s also funny? I have’t read any romance novels, and I’ve never heard of any that were funny, so you’ve just made my rabbit ears perk up. “Curious and curiouser!”
