Nicole by OPI My Cherry Amour Swatches & Review

Nicole by OPI My Cherry Amour Swatches & ReviewNicole by OPI My Cherry Amour from the Gumdrops Collection is one of those shades that really took me off-guard.

In the bottle, it was pretty, but once I painted my nails, I gasped – it’s so flattering and bold!

Although Nicole by OPI calls this My Cherry Amour, it reminds me more of raspberries than cherries because the red has a definite pinkish undertone.

This is a colour that I know I’ll be sporting again. It really pops in real life!

Nicole by OPI My Cherry Amour Review

Colour

Oh my goodness! Nicole by OPI My Cherry Amour is a looker in any light! In natural light, you may think it has silvery glitter, but then when you inspect it in the sunlight, it morphs into a dazzling delight!

This baby has a raspberry base and small holographic glitter sprinkled throughout that add a magical touch.

I really loved how the holo reflected all the colours of the rainbow and served to brighten up the overall look of the manicure.

Finish

Nicole by OPI My Cherry Amour has a textured finish, so it’s noticeably gritty. That being said, it doesn’t feel scratchy, but I would still advise keeping it away from delicate fabrics that could snag (just to be on the safe side).

This finish dries very quickly, which is always a bonus! It’s perfect for when you want a fresh manicure, but you don’t have time to commit to doing a lengthy paint job. (We’ve all been there before, right?)

If the gritty finish bothers you, you can smooth it out by adding a top coat. But, be warned – this polish will eat top coat like it has been starving since 1999. You’ll most likely need to use at least 2 layers of top coat if you want a smooth, glass-like shine. (If you do this, it’s best to use a regular top coat first and then a quick-drying one after. If you just use 2 coats of the quick-drying one, your polish will be susceptible to nail-polish shrinkage.)

Also, as long as you have a good nail-polish remover, this textured polish comes off easier than you’d expect. (I remember before I tried my first textured polish, I thought that it would be a nightmare to remove – akin to trying to remove cement with a toothbrush. Haha, but thank goodness it’s much mucchhhhh easier!)

Application & Formula

Nicole by OPI My Cherry Amour went on evenly and pigmented. I was very impressed with the pigmentation because it pretty much was a one-coater! However, I did use my minimum of 2 coats out of habit.

Pros

  • Great bold shade
  • Holo glitter
  • Looks wonderful in any lighting condition
  • Dries fast
  • Very pigmented
  • Trendy gritty texture (Can be a Con for some.)

Cons

  • Gritty texture (Can be a Pro for some.)

Final Verdict: 9.5/10

My Cherry Amour stole my heart, just as the name would suggest. 😉 Considering that I don’t usually go gaga over these kind of colours, this was a big (pleasant) surprise for me!

Which of the Nicole by OPI Gumdrops Collection shades do you like the most? Are you still into textured polishes, or are you getting tired of them?

Edit: Wow, it’s awesome that Nicole by OPI acknowledges their fan base! I’m honoured!

Bought this polish a few weeks ago and it is goooorgegous indeed. Even more pretty in IRL, because of the beautiful holographic glitters. I also love reddish pinks 🙂

      Hey Renee!

YES, I totally agree with you about it being even prettier in real life. Although my photos show how saturated this nail polish is, it’s definitely more stunning in person! It’s a fresh colour – not like a typical red, so it’s more interesting.

      Hey Soraya!

Aww, thanks! I’m happy to hear that you enjoyed the photos. Hehe, I didn’t know when to stop taking photos. I think I took about 300 photos of just this polish. It was so photogenic!

After seeing your earlier swatches of the yellow and the teal colored polishes I knew I had to get these.
I managed to get my hands on this collection through eBay as it isn’t sold where I live… and I absolutely love it (and my collegues are just about green with envy) 😀
I haven’t tried My Cherry Amour yet but I think I know what I’m going to do this evening and it doesn’t include dishes or cooking but probably some cleaning will be happening 😉

      Hey Molly!

Yay – another fan of this shade! 🙂 I think a lot of people will like this if they give it a shot. It looks better on the nails than it does on the bottle for some reason.

      Hey Lizzy!

I don’t own any of Julie G’s nail polishes (not yet!), but if it’s somewhat similar to Nicole by OPI My Cherry Amour, I’d definitely like it!

Sooo pretty! I went to CVS the other day and bought NOPI That’s What I Mint. I had such a hard time deciding which color to buy, but since I found out through your blog that it was a CVS exclusive, it just seemed like the right one to buy so thank you for that :). Next on my wishlist is I Lilac Gumdrops. As much as I like all the colors, I realized I have very few purple or lavender nail polishes of any kind.

      Hey Tanya!

Glad that you got That’s What I Mint! It’s an amazing polish, isn’t it? Definitely in my Top 3 List of textured polishes.

Thanks for leaving a comment! 🙂

Oh, if you don’t have many lavender polishes, you should check out OPI Do You Lilac It?. It’s a pastel purple that’s so flattering!

There are two things I love about this polish- one, it looks edible. Seriously, I saw it and the first thing I thought was “that looks delicious!”. Two, it’s the closest thing to a jelly liquid sand I’ve seen so far! I love the finish on this, it’s gritty but it somehow simultaneously looks squishy, if that makes any sense? I hope they explore this kind of finish in more polishes!

It does make sense to me, haha. The base of this polish is truly a very pretty jelly in pinkish red, and together with the pretty holographic, this makes one of the most lovely polishes I’ve seen in a while! The jelly also makes the glitters stand out more. You should really see this shades in real life, the swatches are great as always, but you really have to put on your own nails to see the true beauty of it 🙂

I got mine on Ebay, maybe that’s an option for you too? I got this shade and a lilac one and they cost me 11 American dollars or so, shipping included (I’m from Nothern Europe).

          Hi Mary,

I also own ‘Get your number’ and that one is gorgeous too! Really can barely stop looking at my nails when I’m wearing it, ha ha!

            Hey Renee!

OPI Get Your Number was my first textured polish, and it’s still my all-time favourite textured polish! 🙂 Although PR sent me a bottle to review, I ended up buying a back-up of it because I loved it that much!

      Hey Fedoraharp!

Hehe, I’d better keep my nails away from your teeth then, in case you feel tempted to take a bite. 😉

You know what? I had that impression of a ‘jelly Liquid Sand’ when I put on OPI Get Your Number. The base looked translucent.
