You may be asking yourself, “What’s a necklace doing on Swatch And Learn?”
This custom necklace is an original creation by Tracey from Ginger Kitty Designs (an Etsy store). Here’s the clincher – it’s made with actual nail polish…and the purple Nfu-Oh 51 flakie nail polish to be exact!
This nail lacquer has been on my wish list for a year. But I can’t find it on eBay, and it’s sold out at the one etailer that had it. *Sniff sniff*
Since I probably will never own a bottle of it and wear it as a manicure, at least I can wear it around my neck now!
Have you bought nail polish jewelry from Ginger Kitty Designs? Which colors would you pick for a ring, necklace, or bracelet?
I’d like to share my shopping experience with you and what I think about the finished product. I’ve taken photos of the necklace itself, but also the packaging so you know what to expect.

Nfu Oh 51 Nail-Polish Necklace Review
Pendant
It’s approximately 1 inch by 1 inch. You can choose a square setting or a diamond setting. I went with a diamond setting because I don’t own any necklaces like this.
You can also choose just 1 nail polish or you can ask her to use more than one and use a water-marbling technique that’ll add a swirly pattern to your pendant. Since I wanted the true essence of the Nfu-Oh #51 nail polish, I didn’t request mixing it with anything else.
The backing of the pendant is metal and the nail polish itself isn’t exposed. There’s a glass layer on top to protect it. This is water-resistant, but she advises not to wear it while swimming or taking a shower. (Haha, I don’t wear much jewelry, but when I wear a piece, I never expose it to water. That just spells disaster.)
Polishes to Choose From
The Ginger Kitty Designs Etsy store offers a lengthy list of nail polishes you can pick from. Some are pretty polishes that are easy to find in stores, but others are discontinued and/or hard-to-find. Expect to pay more if you choose the latter. (She even has a limited supply of Liquid Euphoria Bliss, which is a nail-polish dupe for Clarins 230 aka Unicorn Pee!)
If you want to use a polish that she doesn’t have but you do, simply let her know. She’ll send you a bottle, which you can fill with your polish and send back to her to use.
Effects to Choose From
You can just choose a single polish and let that be that. But if you really want to go wild, ask her to do a water-marbling with more than one color. You can even ask her to use Konad stamping art or crackle polishes!
Chain
My Nfu-Oh 51 necklace came with a silver box chain. The clasp was easy to open, and there were several links available at the end of the chain so you can adjust the length.
One-of-a-Kind Jewelry
The beauty of Ginger Kitty Designs’ creations is that no two pieces are exactly the same. She handcrafts each item personally, unlike large companies that just churn out the same designs hundreds of times. So you can feel special knowing that you’re wearing one-of-a-kind jewelry.
But keep in mind that because it’s handcrafted, it takes some time for her to finish your piece and to ship it out. It’s definitely worth the wait!
Ginger Kitty Designs Review
Her Etsy storefront showcases a bunch of nail-polish jewelry she’s already created. But if you don’t see something you’re looking for, just explain to her what you’d like and she’ll probably be able to make it.
What impressed me was how professional the packaging was. My Nfu-Oh #51 necklace arrived in a padded envelope. Inside, it was in bubble wrap. It was clear that Tracey put a lot of care into packing it.
The necklace comes displayed professionally with a sparkly-cardboard backing. And all of it is in a plastic protector.
She includes her business card inside, which is nice, so you can easily contact her and/or remember where to go to get more.
When Tracey shipped my necklace, she messaged me to let me know what the tracking number was. And she sent me 2 photos of the finished product, which made me even more excited to see it in person.
Dealing with Tracey has been a complete pleasure, and because she occasionally has coupon codes and special discounts going on, I may just become a repeat customer!
Etsy Review
It was my first time buying anything on Etsy, and the process was easy and painless. You must create an Etsy account before you can buy anything. And you have the option of paying by credit card or by PayPal.
You’ll get an order confirmation, and you can communicate with the seller via a mailbox system on Etsy.

Final Verdict: 9.5/10
I love the way my necklace turned out, and my shopping experience with Ginger Kitty Designs has been positive. I highly recommend you shop her store if the novelty of jewelry made from nail polish excites you.
If you’re reading this, Tracey, thanks again! 😀
What do you think of jewelry made from nail polish? Which colors would you pick for a ring, necklace, or bracelet? Have you ever bought anything on Etsy before?
Oh Mary it’s so pretty!! Great choice!

Thanks, Kee. But now I want to track down a bottle of this nail polish even more!
P.S. I tried layering the Joe polish over a green like we talked about. Didn’t turn out good at all. (I put up the swatches on that post: http://www.swatchandlearn.com/joe-twilight-swatches-review/)
Yeah it’s just serving as a tease for you!! But hope it will tide you over until you find it!!
Ohhh lemme check it out!

Hey Kee,
I e-mailed the etailer because it’s been sold out for the longest time. They said it should be back in at the end of April and that they put me on a backorder list so when it comes in, they’ll let me know.
Cross your fingers and eyes for me!
Ooohhhh thats pretty close!!! Yay you might just get it!!
As for me, I wouldn’t mind Nfu Oh 61, 63 and 64. All sold out. =(

Did you ask whether or not those would be back in stock? They might be back!
No, I never e-mailed them. I just keep checking to see if they’re in stock LOL. I guess it would be easier to e-mail them huh?

Hehe, yeah! Unless you’d get a thrill from finding it listed on the site yourself and being surprised that way.
A CON that can be added is that the rings are plastic. NOT worth the $19.99 plus shipping. The part that has polish on it is plastic and the ring part it self is one of those self adjusting ones that you would see in a bubble gum machine.
Hey TK,
Hmm…I don’t know about the rings she sells since I only bought the necklace.
Was thinking about getting a matching ring. The adjustable band was actually a plus for me because I have thin fingers, and usually rings are too large for me.
It’s too bad that you were so dissatisfied with your ring. 🙁 Maybe get the necklace next time? 😛
Thank you for such a wonderful review :0) I really appreciate it!
I wanted to address TK directly and mention that my rings are made with high quality resin pieces and the adjustable band makes it easier for my customer not to worry about sizing. If you had ever owned one of my rings, you would understand that the brilliance of the nail polish “pops” better in the domed resin and that my pieces are quality pieces.
Mary, I do have many customers that order from me directly instead of going through my Etsy store. I find the Etsy sign up quick and easy but if customers do not want to go through the process, I will invoice them directly.
Thanks again for a wonderful review. :0)
Hey Tracey!
Thanks for stopping by and clearing that up! 🙂
And you’re most welcome. Shopping with you has been a pleasure, and I really love the necklace!
