China Glaze Sun Worshiper Swatches & Review

China Glaze Sun Worshiper Swatches & ReviewChina Glaze Sun Worshiper is a flamboyant neon orange that practically assaults your retinas because it’s so bright!

The orange cheese powder in a box of Kraft Dinner comes pretty close to the colour of this nail polish.

Slick it on, and you could stop traffic! It’s more yellow than the traffic cones, but it’s just as arresting!

China Glaze really knew what they were doing because their Poolside Collection was brilliant, in my opinion. I’ve worn 5 of the 6 colours, and fell in love with nearly all of them. (I didn’t care for the yellow because it’s Streak City!)

China Glaze Sun Worshiper Review

Colour

As you can see from my photographs, Sun Worshiper by China Glaze is a bold, eye-searing neon orange that demands your attention.

I’m the type of person who talks with my hands a lot, so whenever I wear this nail polish, people usually stare at my nails more than usual when I’m talking with them. It’s actually really funny when people see the neon polish for the first time. Some people stop mid-sentence and look discombobulated until they realize it’s the polish that’s flashing so brightly. ๐Ÿ˜‰

If you’re looking for a fun summery polish that breaks away from the usual pink neons, I highly recommend Sun Worshiper. It’s fresh, different, and 100% fun!

Finish

Sun Worshiper by China Glaze is a neon polish, so it dries very matte and pretty streaky. When wearing it, you must wear a top coat. Not only will that add the much-needed shine, but it’ll also make the finish look way less streaky.

Application & Formula

The great thing about Sun Worshiper (and neon nail polish in general) is that it dries super fast. Sure, you have to use 3 coats for better coverage (and it still may be a tad streaky and show some visible nail line), but instead of waiting between coats, you can literally slap on the next coat immediately afterwards! By the time you finish painting the last finger on your second hand, the first nail on your first hand is dry.

Tip for Avoiding Streakiness & Visible Nail Line

Some people suggest using a white polish as a base under neons to increase opacity and reduce visible nail line or streakiness.

I’m a neon purist (hehe!), so I’ve never used this little trick. If you try it, please tell me how well it works. (I’ve heard that using the white underneath has a downside – it makes the neon not quite as bright. Is this true?)

How Does It Compare to China Glaze Papaya Punch?

While both are bright, Sun Worshiper is a true neon. This difference is enough for me to justify owning both. But, if you’re not a nailphile and just want one bright orange, I suggest purchasing Sun Worshiper.

In case you want to compare them for yourself, check out my China Glaze Papaya Punch swatches & review!

Pros

  • Fun, summery, super-bright neon orange
  • Dries very quickly
Cons

  • Requires at least 3 coats & still can look a tad streaky or show visible nail line
  • Needs a top coat to achieve a finished look

Final Verdict: 9.5/10

While I don’t usually wear orange nail polish, China Glaze Sun Worshiper is a colour I find myself turning to time and time again. It adds a crazy pop of colour and makes you happy just looking at it.

Do you wear orange nail polish? Have you tried layering white underneath a neon nail polish?

      Hey Conni Norskov!

Haha, should I move the bottle of nail polish away from you just in case you have an Alice in Wonderland moment? ๐Ÿ˜‰

(Actually, I saw a clip on TV showing a woman DRINKING nail polish. She was obsessed with it and did it all the time. That made my stomach churn. And then, being a total nailphile, I thought of the horror of her possibly DRINKING a Very-Hard-to-Find nail polish. *GASP*)

My daughter used white underneath a neon yellow she bought at Sally (it was a more inexpensive one than CG or Orly) and it was just as vibrant.

      Hey The KnitMaster!

Oh, that’s great to know! Maybe one day I’ll try doing that on my toenails. I don’t know why, but I just can’t bring myself to do that on my fingernails. ๐Ÿ˜›

This is so pretty. The hint of orange makes it much nicer than just straight yellow.

I tried the white undercoat with OPI’s Need Sunglasses once and was not really impressed. Sure, it helped with the opacity issue, but it just didn’t feel right and every time I looked down, I found myself checking for signs of any white showing around the edge of the polish.

      Hey karen!

Need Sunglasses is a really interesting colour – I love that one, but, yes, it definitely needs help with opacity. Glad to hear that the layering trick worked for you.

When you checked, was the white visible around the edges? Or did that only happen from polish shrinkage?

It actually happened from shrinkage and while it wasn’t immediately noticeable to others, I knew it was there and it drove me bonkers.

I was looking for this color… but China Glaze is not a brand that I see often in salons here in Quebec…unless I don’t know where to look? Anyway I ended up getting Color Club Psychedelic Scene which is similar…but I don’t think as vibrant as Sun Worshipper ๐Ÿ™

I’ve tried to white coat trick before, but I found it was too much trouble for a very minimal discrepancy.

      Hey MC!

Yeah, even here in Canada, the main place to find China Glaze is Sally Beauty Supply, but they don’t always have a lot of older colours. Mainly they carry the core collection and some new collections. (It’s a bit of a trek for me to go there, so I don’t visit as often as I’d like.) And there’s only one Trade Secrets I’ve been to that carried some old China Glazes.

If you really want to get hold of a much bigger selection of their colours, I suggest ordering online from NailPolishCanada.com or other etailers I’ve listed in this post. There are so many awesome shades that are so hard (if not impossible) to find in Canadian physical stores, sadly.

Wow, this is gorgeous! I love all the poolside colors~ I think this one is my favorite though, only because I’m in love with the color orange (which btw I finally got my hands on Peachy Keen thanks to your lovely swatch!) Definitely need to get my hand on this one ๐Ÿ˜›

      Hey Lawren!

YAY for getting Peachy Keen – that one’s so pretty! ๐Ÿ™‚ Glad that my swatches helped a bit.

And, yes, if you’re an orange lover, you NEED this neon. Just make sure to wear a top coat and to use at least 3 coats of colour. Also, if you have longer nails, expect that some visible nail line will show.

Hahaha! I love that you compared this to KD yellow orange! ๐Ÿ˜€ That’s so true, now that I think about this. Definitely my favorite neon orange! The hubby actually picked this out for me when I first went shopping for neons. Gotta say, that guy really has good taste. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I tried to swatch this with my old point and shoot, and I swear, no matter the lighting, it kept freaking it out. Instead of that vibrant retina searing orange, I kept getting a glow-y, alienesque orange! It was pretty awesome but not altogether color accurate so I had to scrap them. I’ll try again this summer, hopefully with better luck!

Also, how awesome is a post that has the word: discombobulated?? It’s still sitting pretty on my list of fun words to use in a post/conversation. Oh, well, it’ll have it’s day. Someday.

Yes, your husband DOES have good taste AND a good heart because he was so thoughtful. ๐Ÿ™‚

Haha, I know exactly what you mean about point-and-shoot cameras freaking out in the face of Sun Worshiper. My old Sony did that, too. The photos were pretty cool, though, because they looked insanely unrealistic.

Mary, only your lovely swatches make me need to know where to get in line for this neon orange… “where can I best get this polish! I too want my retinas assaulted!” ๐Ÿ™‚ I will have to check for this shade at my local supplier! I have flip flop fantasy and love it… This is SO FUN!

You’ll LOVE this one – so summery. You need to drink something tropical when you wear this. (It’s a good excuse to relax, right? “Listen, I’m wearing Sun Worshiper – I must take it easy!” :P)

Hi there! your photos are sublime!
I need help: I can’t seem to make this polish work for me. It is soooo streaky and no matter how many layers I put of it, the result is still streaky.
I have been using Butter London Flawless basecoat, then i use one coat of Bourjois Paris in Mรฉli Melon (just for opaqueness) and then… I just layer, layer, layer… then I get tired and aply a coat of Seche Vite and still, it never looks as yours as your manicure!
Is it the way I apply it? Do you have any tips? I love this color but I can’t deal with the amateur look I get from it…
    thank you so much

      Hey Veronique!

Hmm, well, this polish can be streaky. Do you apply thin or thick coats? It could make a difference. Usually, I use medium coats with streaky polishes, so there’s more coverage. But the trick is also not to use TOO many coats because the polish can get too ‘thick-looking’.
