Orange is a colour that I don’t typically wear. But since Hallowe’en is coming up soon, I’ve been looking through my 400+ polish collection to try to find some good oranges to use for upcoming nail-art tutorials.
China Glaze Papaya Punch made it onto the hit list! 🙂 Can’t believe I didn’t wear it sooner.
It’s a gorgeous, creamy orange that’s bright without being as neon as China Glaze Sun Worshipper (which I love, by the way).
I’ve already created one nail-art design using this colour, but that post will only go live in October. I kind of want to save stuff like that closer to Hallowe’en so that it’s more festive.

China Glaze Papaya Punch Review
Colour
Papaya Punch is the perfect name for this colour that came out in the summer collection. It definitely reminds me of papaya!
It’s this really vivid orange polish that is probably a couple of shades away from being a neon. Despite its intensity, there is a softness about it that makes it look creamy to me.
And surprisingly, I think this shade of orange works nicely on my skin tone. It has made me want to try more oranges in the future.
Finish
Papaya Punch by China Glaze has a creme finish that dries slightly shiny. You’ll need a top coat if you want it to look really glossy.
Application & Formula
The consistency was so smooth. This one practically applied itself, and I only needed 2 coats to achieve full opacity. I’m very happy with the formula.
Brush
My bottle came with a softer brush than my other China Glaze polishes. While it didn’t hinder the painting process, I find that it was a bit too soft. The regular China Glaze brushes work better. Good thing, though, that the formula was so awesome. Made it easier.
Ingredients
Since I bought this from an etailer that removes ingredient labels, I can’t show you the ingredients. How frustrating! I’m going to have to try out another etailer because I like to receive nail polish in perfect condition.
If there was a brick-and-mortar store near me that sold China Glaze polishes from new collections, I’d be right on it. Unfortunately there are none that I know of yet.

If you’ve never tried an orange polish before or if you’d just like to try one that has a great formula, Papaya Punch is it! And I think this is a shade that would look hot on richer skin tones and even super-pale skin tones. I love shades like this that flatter more people than just a select few.

You know, I thought this would look nasty on me, but in a weird way, I’m intrigued by these kind of polishes, so I try them anyway just in case I get surprised. And I did. 😀 Thank goodness…hehe!
Very papaya-ish for sure! I’m not completely sold on China Glaze tho, just because I find their formula is very hit or miss.
I have this bright orange that’s a darker shade (more red in it) that I like to wear around Halloween. Nevermind that it’s only a $2 polish but it’s a one coater and dries fast. Probably one of the first polishes I bought from the drugstore when I first started dabbling in putting on my own nail polish. 😀

Their formula is definitely hit or miss for me, too. I do love how they embrace all different colours, though. Their diversity is what always sucks me in.

That’s true. They ARE more innovative in terms of colors, I’ll give them that. 🙂
Ever tried the NYC In A New York Minute polishes? The orange one I have is called Spring Street. I find the cremes in the line are more opaque and one-coaters but the shimmery ones are on the sheer side. At least for the ones I have. Walmart and Rexall carry the brand.
I also have a an orange polish (my fave orange!) from In the Mood that changes to yellow when it’s warm called Naughty. Probably the only color that was worth getting from the entire line. (The rest were so-so in terms of the color changing wow factor. I got a whole lot more puzzled second looks with this than with any other in the line. ;))
No, I’ve never tried them, but wondered if NYC still has good polishes.
I remember buying NYC polishes when I was in high school. They were just $0.99 at Shoppers and they had some pretty funky colours even back then. There was a navy blue I used maybe 3/4 of the bottle of. I’d always layer that with glitter to make it look like a starry sky. This was even before Chanel Ciel de Nuit came out…but maybe only by a few months.
Your mood-changing polish sounds so cool! I still haven’t tried any, can you believe it? The one you’re talking about is from Claire’s, right? The ones in the kinda wide, chubby bottles?
The NYC polishes are pretty good. A little on the watery side but very manageable. I love them for when I’m in a hurry and don’t bother with top coat because the cremes are pretty shiny on their own. 🙂 They’re what I was expecting from the SH Insta-dri line but from what I’ve tried, they’re more on the goopy side ant that’s just not for me.
Oh, I’ve seen the Claire’s ones but never tried them. This line is from: http://themoodpolish.com/product.php and my adorable hubby got me 6 out of the 9 colors for my birthday (along with the 4 Del Sols :D). I loved going to the washroom when I had Naughty on and wash my hands with cold water (so my nails would be orange) then use the dryer (where it turns yellow). Lots of puzzled second looks! 😀 I think you’ll enjoy this polish very much. 😉
And I forgot to mention that since the color change is temperature sensitive, if you have a longer nail, the part that sits on the nail bed is the warm color while the free hanging end is the cold color. Makes for an easy french mani! 😀
I think I’d like the temperature-sensitive ones compared to the solar-sensitive ones. Cool – I want to see that unique French manicure effect even more now! Thanks for letting me know! 😀
I only have 2 from the Insta-Dri line. They’re supposed to be good for stamping, but I still haven’t experimented with them for nail art.

Yes, I agree with you – good things are worth waiting for…hehe, sometimes. 😛 My mom tried to drill that into me when I was a kid. Then, one day, for my 13th or 14th birthday, my best friend bought me a large (expensive) bottle of perfume early. She kept it in her bedroom closet for a month, waiting for my birthday to come. A week before my birthday, she accidentally knocked over the bottle. It spilled all over her hardwood floors, and her bedroom reeked of CK One for months later. Hehe, after that experience, I joked with my mom and told her that if we didn’t wait, I would’ve had the perfume and my friend wouldn’t have had to suffer from the strong fumes. 😛
Ooh I don’t have any oranges yet… I’ll have to try this on my hand today when I go out and see. But as long as the formula is easy to apply and opaque I’m practically sold haha!
By the way I was looking through the posts and I was wondering what kind of remover do you use? Recently i’ve been switching it up more often but all the removers I’ve been trying seem to be really drying or take forever to take my polish off (esp when I have glitter). 🙁

Good question! I’ve been thinking about reviewing nail-polish remover since I’ve tried a lot of brands and have finally found a good one that works better than a lot of drugstore kinds I’ve tried. Wasn’t sure if anyone would be interested, but now that I know you are, I’ll have to review it.
I’m currently using the acetone one from Sally Beauty Supply. It’s not the 100% pure acetone one, just the regular one. I find that when I use it with a cotton ball (also sold at Sally Beauty Supply), it removes my polish really quickly. It dries my nails somewhat, though…and the smell is gross.
For chunky glitter, I’ve heard that your best bet is to use pure acetone. I’m wary of using that on myself, though, just because it’s so strong. I just use my regular acetone remover and rub a little more.
There’s also the foil technique where you put remover onto cotton balls, place them on your nail and then wrap your fingers in foil for about 10 minutes. The glitter should be slightly easier to remove.
Another method is to put on some cheap, clear polish onto your nails. That’ll soften up the glitter a bit and then you can remove it like usual with your nail-polish remover.
Oh, this is such a fun polish. I have it it in my collection. I don’t think it is a perfect orange for Halloween though. What do you think?

For the particular Hallowe’en nail art that I have scheduled for October, it was definitely the perfect orange. I can’t say any more than that without giving away what the design is. 😉 It’s not an elaborate or terribly unique design, but I still want it to be a small surprise. Hehe…

My classes are keeping me busy as HECK!! I haven’t even spent time with any of my friends outside of school since the semester started because I’ve been so busy! This year, my art class is definitely the most demanding. Because it’s an AP class, we’re expected to do 10 hours of work at home to match the 5 hours we do in school. And because my weekdays are taken up with homework from other classes and other extracurriculars, I have to do all of those 10+ hours on the weekends. Nevertheless, I still enjoy art more than my other classes, though I am unexpectedly discovering that I actually enjoy Statistics ;).
Of course! Part of the reason why Swatch And Learn started was for a way to bounce ideas off each other. 🙂
Wow, that’s a LOT of time devoted to school work. I never took art class (I went for instrumental music.), but my close friends who did had HOURS of work to do when they’d be working on their paintings, sculptures, or wood carvings. I was always so impressed by how they could do all that, maintain a social life, and also study for tests in their other classes. But, where there’s a will, there’s a way. And that way sometimes has slick pavement – it’s slick because of the blood, sweat, and tears…all that hard work that leads to success. Totally worth it!
Hehe, I also had to take statistics in university as a psychology major. Before that, I didn’t think I’d like it much, but I had a great professor and the material “made sense”, so I enjoyed it a lot, too.
