China Glaze My Lodge or Yours Swatches & Review

China Glaze Your Lodge or Mine? is from The Great Outdoors Collection, and it’s a shade that I never craved before, but when I saw it, I was curious about how it would look on my nails. (You know that I-Must-Get-You-On-My-Nails-Now feeling? I felt that the second I saw this bottle.)

It’s a dusty mauve with a grey undertone, and although I haven’t worn many colours like this, it felt nostalgic because the OPI La Collection de France came to mind. (That collection introduced mushroom, taupe, and greyish purple.)

China Glaze Your Lodge or Mine? would definitely have fit into that collection. This colour has an edginess about it, yet somehow it’s still soft and reminds me a bit of a vintage chiffon dress.

Despite the slight bubbling (from my top coat) and accidental nicking of my manicure, I absolutely fell in love. It’s making me want to branch out and try more shades like this.

China Glaze My Lodge or Yours? Review

Colour

My Lodge or Yours? by China Glaze is a dusty mauve that’s neutral, so it has a sophistication about it without being loud. However, it’s far from a snooze fest because, while soft, it has editorial edge, thanks to the greyish undertone.

Usually I like high-contrast polishes against my skin tone, but I was in love with this because, in a strange way, it made me think of zombie nails! Hehe, I’m not really into zombies, but when I wore this, I kept staring at my nails, admiring them and thinking about zombies.

I haven’t worn many mauves like this, but now that I realize how much I enjoy this one, I’m going to keep my eyes peeled like a banana in the future if China Glaze or other brands release similar shades.

Finish

The simple creme finish puts all the focus on the colour without distracting. It’s easy to remove, as well, which is always a bonus when it comes to cremes.

Application & Formula

My Lodge or Yours? by China Glaze went on smoothly and evenly, and I only needed two coats to get the opacity you see in my photos. I didn’t see any visible nail line, so I didn’t find it necessary to add another layer.

Pros

  • Interesting dusty mauve with a grey undertone
  • Smooth & creamy formula
  • Easy to apply & remove

Cons

  • It’s a “safer” colour than what I typically wear (however, if muted shades are more your thing than high-contrast manicures, this may be right up your alley)

Final Verdict: 9.5/10

I’m loving China Glaze My Lodge or Yours? because it’s a far departure than the colours I normally am drawn to. It has opened up more colour territory to explore, and that excites me!

This shade is elegant, yet the dustiness and grey undertone make it look more interesting than a regular soft shade.

Are you into mauves like this? Can you think of any dupes for this or similar shades? Does the grey undertone in this make you think of zombies, too, or is it just my overactive imagination (again)? 😉

It’s a very pretty color and it looks great on you, but I think I’ll have to pass on this one. It’s just not a color I would use on a regular basis. Thanks for sharing!

Hehe, I can hear your wallet sighing with relief! 😉 But mine is getting worried because I plan to further explore this colour territory.

      Hey Ann-Sofie!

We are in the same boat. Interesting how colours that previously didn’t intrigue us now look appealing!

Glad you like it, too! 🙂

      Hey Sasha!

There’s just something that ‘works’ about this shade. I’m also not usually drawn to colours like this, but recently I have been. It’s both exciting and scary when you find out that there’s a whole new sea you can dive into. Thought that I had explored nearly every colour territory, but, as with many things in life, there’s always more to discover! 🙂

Isn’t it funny how a color can just unexpectedly grab you sometimes? I used to dismiss mauves as boring granny colors when I first got into nail polish. But I recently bought Essie Ladylike and fell head over heels. I now have a lemming for ALL THE MAUVES and am thinking about adding this China Glaze to my collection – thanks for a great review!

      Hey Jessica!

Haha, yes! Back in the day, it never crossed my mind to even try certain colours when I wasn’t impressed with the way they looked in the bottle. However, over this nail junkie’s adventures, I’ve discovered that many nail polishes show their true magic ON the nails! After having many ‘manicure epiphanies’ I have happily widened my pool of experimentation. Thank goodness I gave mauves a try because I’m in love with them. Same goes for peaches and yellows. Now, I can’t picture NOT wearing those hues!
