Nail Art Tutorial: Rainbow & Cloud Nails

Rainbow & Cloud Nail Art Tutorial & SwatchesDo you remember the last time you were on Cloud 9?

I was on Cloud 10 with these Rainbow & Cloud Nails. Did them many weeks ago, but I’m only posting it now. It’s been a few days since my last nail post, so it’s about time!

You may remember me sharing my Dotty Nails that I did when I was just playing around with my new dotting tools. This manicure was done perhaps a few days after that one.

I always wanted to try my hand at rainbow nails, but i thought my hands would be too shaky to draw smooth arcs for each colour.

Using a dotting tool is very easy and the way the dots come out in various sizes depending on the tip and how much pressure you apply makes the end result more interesting to me than perfect arcs anyway.

Plus using a dotting tool is as much fun as popping bubble wrap! (I swear there must be some sort of gaseous substance in each bubble that makes the popping act seem so addictive! :P)

Hope you try this and share with me any of your dotty manicures! It’s cool when you can design a picture using just dots. I’d love to see what you can come up with!

OPI Rainbow Connection Swatches & Review (Plus Glitter Polish Removal Tips)

OPI Rainbow Connection Swatches & ReviewOPI Rainbow Connection is the polish that I was most excited to see in person from the OPI The Muppets Collection for Holiday 2011. It was also the one I predicted that will be the first to sell out.

Now that I’ve worn it, I can firmly say that I still stand by that prediction. So when it’s released in stores on November 1st, try to snatch up Rainbow Connection before it’s too late.

With all the hype surrounding the new and old versions of Deborah Lippmann Happy Birthday, I already anticipated questions regarding if this is a dupe or not.

Further down the post, I will address this issue in greater detail, as well as the polish’s opacity and layering capabilities. I’ve also included swatches of my layering experiments. Continue reading

Nail Art Tutorial: Dotty Nails

Seeing Spots Nail Art Swatches & TutorialGuess what? Several weeks ago, I finally bought a set of 5 double-sided dotting tools!

I wasn’t planning to show these Dotty Nails because I really was just playing around with the tools. I wasn’t thinking about what colours would look nice together. I was just having fun! 🙂

But when I ran out of space on my nails, I looked at the random design and actually kinda liked it! So I wore my spontaneous creation.

I’ve always wanted to do a manicure with all dots. It’s super easy and really fast. Plus there’s something satisfying about creating each dot for some reason.

I liked it, but maybe you think it looks like the connect-the-dots measles. Haha! 😛 Continue reading

Nail Art Tutorial: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Nails

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Nails Tutorial & SwatchesSometimes inspiration hits me between the eyes when I least expect it. *Ouch* Hehe…

Originally I was just going to do some nail stamping with Bundle Monster Image Plate BM-206. But when I finished my nails, the more I looked at the pattern, the more I thought about Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles! (I used to watch that show with my brother when I was little.)

The nail-art light bulb turned on. Eureka! Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Nails were born!

From index finger to pinkie, let me introduce you to the pizza-eating-ass-whooping-sewage-dwelling crew: Donatello, Leonardo, Raphael, and Michelangelo.

This design is extremely easy to do, and it’s pretty fast to do, too. However, the one major drawback of this nail art is that it requires lots of different polish colours.

But…for those who have the supplies, I’d love for you to try it out and show me how yours turn out! 🙂

And before I continue…I have one very important thing to say: Heroes in a half shell! Turtle power! 😛 Haha, I’m such a nerd, I know…

Nail Art Tutorial: Bee Nails

Bee Nails Nail Art Tutorial, Swatches & PicturesWhat’s all the buzzin’ about? Pipe it down! 😛

Today I bring you some new (and easy) nail art: Bee Nails! Are they the bee’s knees or the bee’s elbows?

This is a design that I’ll show you step-by-step how to recreate. These yellow bandits will be ready in no time!

All you’ll need is a yellow polish (I used OPI Need Sunglasses?), a black striper and/or polish, a white polish, and a dotting tool.

Heh…if you look closely at the swatches of this, you’ll notice that I accidentally gave one of my bees a cataract! 🙁 Whoopsie! No hard feelings, right, Bee-atris? 😉

But hopefully you still like the way it looks. And, hey, maybe seeing isn’t always bee-lieving! (Okay, okay! I hear you groaning…I’ll stop with the corny puns.) Continue reading

Nail Art Tutorial: Ladybug Nails

Ladybug Nails Nail Art TutorialThis is what I wore over the weekend.

These Ladybug Nails were so easy to do, and you just need 3 colours of polish. Chances are that you already have these in your stash.

If you’re looking for simple nail art, this is definitely it. There aren’t many steps, and you don’t have to be good at drawing. It’s just dots, stripes, and painting the tip of your nails.

Some designs are more complicated and can be a challenge replicating it using your non-dominant hand. The ladybug nail art is easy-peasy to do on both hands. You just need the right tools.

I got this idea from a cutepolish YouTube video, which I’ll link to at the bottom of my post.

Nail Art Tutorial: Loch Ness Monster Nails

Loch Ness Monster Nails Nail Art Tutorial & SwatchesDoing Cookie Monster nail art made me think about what other kind of monsters I liked and that would be easy to translate onto my small nail canvas.

I looked under my bed. (Just the typical monsters there.)

I checked my closet. (Nope, just a bunch of skeletons. They’ll come in handy for Hallowe’en.)

Then I decided to take inspiration from the water, since I love swimming and am also a Pisces. A few cover stories of the National Enquirer that I’ve glanced at while in the checkout aisle may have also influenced me.

Today I bring you Loch Ness Monster Nails! Now you can say that you’ve seen it swimming in the water on a sunny day!

Since I’m a Canadian, taking French class in school is mandatory up until grade 9.

In the 8th grade, I remember loving the class because we got to read all sorts of absurd books. None were serious. Literally every story we read was surrounding Sasquatch, the Loch Ness Monster, or aliens. Yeah! And now imagine reading all those stories in a foreign language. How could it not be fun? Haha!
