OPI Life Gave Me Lemons Swatches & Review

OPI Life Gave Me Lemons Swatches & ReviewBefore I get into today’s review, I’d like to explain why I was M.I.A. for a bit last week.

If you follow me on social media, you already know. My cat, Pingu, passed away on Thursday. I had to make the hardest decision to put him to sleep to end his suffering.

He was only 11 years old, and the vet said that he was in a lot of pain and that he was dying. It was all very sudden.

I feel like I made the right choice, but, as you can imagine, it also felt very wrong. It’s hard to say goodbye to a beloved family member. Pets are more than ‘just animals’. They are companions who love unconditionally and who often teach humans the proper way to love!

He lived at my mom’s, but before I moved out in my 20s, I was living with my parents and Pingu. Pingu and I had a strong bond, so even though I sometimes called Pingu “my mom’s cat” because he lived with her, he was really “my cat”! The way his eyes would light up as he galloped to the door to greet me each Sunday I went to visit my mom always made me smile.

Today, I’ll be reviewing OPI Life Gave Me Lemons from the Neons Collection. I actually wore this quite some time ago and had planned to review it last week, but, as you can understand, my priorities shifted, and I was overcome with emotion.

As you know, I love neon nail polish because it acts like a pick-me-up. And I think the name “Life Gave Me Lemons” is appropriate now. It reminded me that even though life seems sucky right now and my eyes were puffy from crying, I’ll eventually have to think positively and take comfort in the happy, heartfelt, and tender moments that I got to share with Pingu. (I may write a blog post to share my wonderful memories about Pingu, a quirky cat with a warm, funny, and loving personality.)

Edit: I’m having a worldwide giveaway for the entire full-size OPI Neon Collection and the new white base coat, OPI Put a Coat On! Enter until May 31 at 11:59 pm EDT for your chance to win!

Zoya Cosmo Swatches & Review

Zoya Cosmo Swatches & ReviewZoya Cosmo from the Magical PixieDust Collection is a gorgeous textured glitter nail polish that has a lot of bling going on! 🙂

If you liked Zoya Lux, which I showed you not long ago, I think that you’ll really like this because it’s the same concept, except instead of pink, it has a silvery tone.

Wearing Zoya Cosmo is like having diamond-encrusted nails, and it’s more affordable than high-end jewellery, so that’s also a plus! 😉

I think that a lot of people who like trendy, textured polish with lots of glitz will adore this!

When I read the name, ‘Cosmo’, the first thing that came to mind was Cosmo Brown from Singin’ in the Rain. Do you remember that comedic character played by Donald O’Connor? When I watched it for the first time as a kid, I remember having a crush on him because he was so funny, especially during his “Make ’em Laugh” musical number.

P.S. Remember to get your entry in for a chance to win the entire CND Vinylux Open Road Collection in my giveaway! (Open to Canadian and U.S. residents. Ends May 9 at 11:59 pm EDT.)

Quick Look: OPI Neons Collection

Neons by OPI CollectionAlthough the weather has been really crappy, I’m still crossing my fingers, toes, and eyes that sunny days and warmth is in the near horizon.

Thank goodness for nail polish because it provides the much-needed colour therapy!

Today, I have a quick look at the OPI Neons Collection, which I shared the press release of. It includes 6 shades. These are OPI’s first full-size neons! 🙂 YAY!

As a green fiend, of course I’m excited about the greens, but I’m happy to sport all of them!

Check out the rest of this post for swatches and more bottle shots. Then, in a future post, I’ll share in-depth reviews.

Zoya Lux Swatches & Review

Zoya Lux Swatches & ReviewOkay, now I’m convinced that my stomach blogs for Swatch And Learn because when I first tried to type Zoya Lux, I accidentally typed Zoya Lox! (Haha, lox is brined salmon that I sometimes have with a bagel and cream cheese.)

But no, Zoya has not put out a polish based on my breakfast. (Pity because I eat a lot of delicious things.) 😉

Instead, they have gone the bedazzled route, and created this masterpiece that twinkles like the expensive jewels that I can only admire in store windows.

All 3 shades in the Zoya Magical PixieDust Collection, which Lux comes from are blingtastic.

This gorgeous polish really is like wearing jewelry on your nails because it sparkles a lot and it looks really glamorous!

In the bottle, I thought it was nice. But, it wasn’t until I wore it that I was really impressed by it. In fact, it’s the type of polish that looks better in person, and photos just cannot do it any justice!

P.S. Remember, you still have until May 9 at 11:59 pm EDT to enter my Canada/US giveaway for your chance to win the entire CND Vinylux Open Road Collection!

Zoya Brooklyn Swatches & Review

Zoya Brooklyn Swatches & ReviewGold nail polish is very blingy, if you go for the yellow-toned variety. However, when you sport one that leans more to white gold like Zoya Brooklyn, it gives a more sophisticated look.

Brooklyn is one of the shades in the Zoya Awaken Collection, which I did a Quick Look post on previously.

This shade is very pigmented, and there’s a fragility about the colour that makes it look chic instead of tacky.

Back in the day (elementary school, to be exact!), I used to have a satin, long-sleeved t-shirt in this exact colour! Nobody else in my class wore anything like it, but I think that’s why I loved it. Haha, even if it was ridiculous to wear something like that to school, I did, and I felt confident and luxurious. I wonder where that shirt is now.

Side note: Brooklyn is my niece’s middle name, so when I first read the name of this nail polish, I immediately thought of her!

Zoya Dillon Swatches & Review

Zoya Dillon Swatches & ReviewI don’t know about you, but when I saw “Dillon”, I thought of Dylan McKay (James-Dean wannabe) from the original series, Beverley Hills 90210. (It was very popular when I was in elementary school.)

Of course, he would never be caught wearing this shade. Too bad for him because Zoya Dillon from the Awaken Collection is all kinds of awesome!

This seafoam green is soft and has a seaside feel that makes me think of mermaids and sea glass.

It’s a very pretty addition to any nail-polish collection, and the finish is very pretty – it has a subtle sheen that I find to be very calming, like the ebb and flow of the ocean.

Zoya Cole Swatches & Review

Zoya Cole Swatches & ReviewA peachy polish like Zoya Cole from the Awaken Collection makes me think of the spring and summer, when the weather’s warm and the sun peeks its head out of the clouds more.

It also reminds me of Creamsicles, sorbet, and frozen yogurt. (But sometimes my stomach blogs for Swatch And Learn!) 😉

This creamy pastel orange is a happy colour, and it’s perfect if you want your nails to be seasonally appropriate. (Then again, feel free to rock this even in the dead of winter or whenever you want. Nail polish is about having fun and self-expression, after all!)

Interesting factoid: I read on Zoya’s website that they originally released Cole during NYFW as Stella for Peter Som’s Spring/Summer 2014 Collection.
