China Glaze No Plain Jane Swatches & Review

China-Glaze-No-Plain-Jane-Swatches-ReviewChina Glaze No Plain Jane from the New Bohemian Collection is the purple that I was curious about trying because it looked like it had some gold in the bottle.

As you may remember me mentioning before, my first love was purple. It was only after I purchased nearly every shade of purple I could get my hands on that I started dabbling with greens.

Surprisingly, I don’t actually have any purples that look exactly like No Plain Jane.

China Glaze Swanky Silk Swatches & Review

China-Glaze-Swanky-Silk-Swatches-ReviewCompared to the other hues in the New Bohemian Collection, China Glaze Swanky Silk was the most tame…but that’s why it intimidated me.

You see, I gravitate toward bold, contrasting polishes that punch me in the eye with colour. Swanky Silk is non-violent. In fact, it never raises its voice above a whisper.

Often, ladylike shades give me a hard time. Either they clash with my skin tone, or they’re too subtle for my liking.

So what did I think of Ms. Swanky Silk? Did it change my mind about softer shades?

Illamasqua Nurture Swatches & Review

Illamasqua-Nurture-Swatches-ReviewIllamasqua Nurture is a look-at-me green from the limited-edition Rubber Brights Collection that has a unique ‘rubberized’ finish instead of the traditional glossy look.

I really love Illamasqua because they’re a brand that never seems to shy away from doing something different and risky. And their photoshoots are some of the most artistic and dramatic ones in the beauty industry!

While I haven’t worn many matte or rubber finishes, I’m always open for trying new nail looks. So I gave this a shot. The green already was right up my alley.

What was the verdict on this rubberized green? There’s only one way to find out! 😉

China Glaze Deviantly Daring Swatches & Review

China-Glaze-Devitantly-Daring-Swatches-ReviewNearly every single time I went to type China Glaze Deviantly Daring, my fingers had a mind of their own and typed Deviant Darling!

This beauty is from the China Glaze New Bohemian Collection, and it’s a flashy teal. If it were a human, it would want to be the crazy naked person who runs across the pitch during a soccer game and then gets escorted away in handcuffs. Now that’s deviant!

I’m very grateful to have had a chance to wear all of the colours in the New Bohemian Collection. And out of all 6 hues, this one, Unpredictable, and Rare & Radiant are my favourites.

Zoya Monica Swatches & Review

Zoya-Monica-Swatches-Review“You need to give it up. Had about enough. It’s not hard to see. The boy is mine.”

When I heard about Zoya Monica, the first thing that sprung to mind was the sultry song from the late 90s featuring Monica and Brandy.

Yup, here’s another shade from the Zoya NYFW 2012 Collection!

A soft blue-toned purple like Monica is simple, but it still gets my attention.

And with creme polishes, you really can do all sorts of nail art on top. They make for great base colours.

Slatkin & Co. Autumn Candle Review & Pictures

Slatkin-Co-Autumn-Candle-Review-Pictures-Bath-Body-WorksIt’s been a very long time since I’ve reviewed a candle on here. And although I know many of you prefer to see nail-polish reviews, I really love candles and need to review this one – Slatkin & Co. Autumn Candle!

I’ve had it stashed away in my closet since last year…sheesh! And now they’ve come out with a new  graphic for the front of the candle.

Although the summer was my favourite season for years, the fall quickly took first place in the past couple of years. I love everything about it – the crisp air, Hallowe’en, and being able to wear sweater dresses with knee-high boots.

MAC Candy Yum-Yum Lipstick Swatches & Review

MAC-Candy-Yum-Yum-Swatches-ReviewIf you’re into makeup, chances are that you were highly anticipating the MAC By Request Collection, which features the winning former-bestselling-and-discontinued shades as voted on by the public.

One vote per person per day was allowed, and for nearly the entire duration of the poll, I voted for MAC Candy Yum-Yum Lipstick!

When this neon pink was originally released last year, I took too long deciding whether or not to get it, and then it sold out in the blink of an eye.

This time, I wasn’t playin’, girlfriend! I stayed up late and checked the MAC website the second it was released online (since this was an online-only release). Once I was able to, I quickly placed my order for 4 tubes in a frenzy – 2 for me and 2 for a friend. (My palms were sweaty. Yes, that’s when you know you’ve got it bad, Usher…when your palms sweat because of a coveted lipstick shade.) 😉

And, thank goodness I decided to be a crazy fanatic about it because in roughly just 12 hours of it going on sale, the limited-edition shade was sold out…again. And there doesn’t seem to be any plans by MAC to restock just yet.

So…I guess this blog post is quite the tease, but I had to share my excitement about finally getting to try out MAC Candy Yum-Yum!

And, yes, the neon-love train is still chugging along over here at Swatch And Learn. Choooo-chooooo! All aboardddd!
