Nail Art: Half Moon Nails (Using Illamasqua Charisma & Illamasqua Creator)

Ruffian-Nails-Nail-Art-Pictures smallerOne of my wonderful readers asked me a little while ago if I could do Ruffian Nails with fall colours. It was exactly the push I needed to make my first attempt at this nail-art design.

I used Illamasqua Charisma and Illamasqua Creator, 2 polishes that I recently reviewed. (I’ve included links to both posts later on in case you’re curious about seeing swatches.)

Okay, so this colour combination is more winter than fall. And for a traditional Ruffian manicure, I should’ve brought the black further up on the nail so that there’s less of the raspberry showing. Now I know for next time! 🙂

Edit: Originally I called these Ruffian Nails. Hmm…but I now think it’s more accurate to call them Half Moon Nails. Apparently Ruffian nails are like thin Cs along the cuticle. Rats! All this time I thought this is what Ruffian nails were. Sorry about the confusion! I’ve swapped out the text later on in this post. (Looks like I’ll have to do another look to fulfil my reader’s request.)

Another Edit: Click here to see my post which actually features Ruffian nail art!

Illamasqua Creator Swatches & Review

Illamasqua Creator isIllamasqua-Creator-Swatches-Review from the upcoming Generation Q Fall/Winter Collection that will be due out September 6.

This is one sexy, edgy polish that I loved wearing, especially on short nails!

With all the colourful lacquers in my Helmer, I just realized after wearing Creator that I rarely wear black polishes. And it’s definitely not because I don’t like them – in fact whenever I wear a black polish (not near-black, but actually black), I tend to fall in love with it.

Illamasqua Creator was no exception – it stole my heart, and if you try it out, too, I think you’ll also want to have its baby…haha, or at least just paint your nails with it. 😉

Essie Tart Deco Swatches & Review

Essie-Tart-Deco-Swatches-ReviewEssie Tart Deco is a soft cantaloupe coral, but somehow I pulled out some pink during the photoshoot.

Random thought: Ever wonder what your nails would say if they could talk? I do…often! (I can picture them screaming, “Ohhh nooo!” whenever I wear a polish that has the potential to stain. And, no, Tart Deco isn’t a polish that stains.)

I think mine would roll their imaginary eyes at me whenever I pull out my camera. They’d say, “The paparazzi again? Why can’t they respect our privacy? Creepo!”

But really, deep down inside their cuticles, they know that they really love being in the limelight. When their 15 minutes of fame are up, they’ll be wishing that this ‘paparazzi’ busted out the camera again. 😉 All press is good press…or is it?

Illamasqua Charisma Swatches & Review

Illamasqua-Charisma-Swatches-ReviewIllamasqua Charisma has a lot to live up to with a name like that. But guess what? It totally does!

This is 1 of the 2 nail-polish shades in the Illamasqua Generation Q Fall & Winter Collection that’s coming out on September 6th.

It’s one of those Wow Polishes that kept me interested all day long because it looks different depending on the lighting. I really love shades that have an ‘identity crisis’. 😉

I was so excited to wear this that I even trimmed my nails really short because I enjoy wearing dark shades on short nails the most.

Zoya Song Swatches & Review

Zoya-Song-Swatches-ReviewDespite it being released before I was even born, Zoya Song immediately calls to mind the Neil Diamond tune named Song Sung Blue.

While I was painting my nails, I was humming the chorus before I even made the connection.

But this blue nail polish from the Zoya NYFW 2012 Collection won’t leave you weeping like a willow.

If you’re like me and tend to reach for saturated shades, this one doesn’t disappoint! It’s a stunning jewel-tone that I feel plays very well with many different skin tones from the fairest to the richest.

China Glaze No Plain Jane Swatches & Review

China-Glaze-No-Plain-Jane-Swatches-ReviewChina Glaze No Plain Jane from the New Bohemian Collection is the purple that I was curious about trying because it looked like it had some gold in the bottle.

As you may remember me mentioning before, my first love was purple. It was only after I purchased nearly every shade of purple I could get my hands on that I started dabbling with greens.

Surprisingly, I don’t actually have any purples that look exactly like No Plain Jane.

China Glaze Swanky Silk Swatches & Review

China-Glaze-Swanky-Silk-Swatches-ReviewCompared to the other hues in the New Bohemian Collection, China Glaze Swanky Silk was the most tame…but that’s why it intimidated me.

You see, I gravitate toward bold, contrasting polishes that punch me in the eye with colour. Swanky Silk is non-violent. In fact, it never raises its voice above a whisper.

Often, ladylike shades give me a hard time. Either they clash with my skin tone, or they’re too subtle for my liking.

So what did I think of Ms. Swanky Silk? Did it change my mind about softer shades?
