Orly Halley’s Comet Swatches & Review

Orly Halley's Comet SwatchThe moment I saw Orly Halley’s Comet in the bottle, I knew it would be amazing. A vivid turquoise-blue polish with foil flakes can do no wrong in my beauty book.

It steals the spotlight in even low lighting, and it sparkles wildly in the sun. Sometimes it looks lit-from-within and other times it’s a fiesta dancing on your nails.

Clearly, this is a fun manicure that I really enjoyed wearing – it was one of my favorites from the Orly Cosmic FX Collection.

Let me tell you more about this mesmerizing color, show you some swatches, and share my experience with the nail-polish formula. I’ll also compare it to OPI Catch Me In Your Net.

OPI Russian Navy Suede Swatches & Review

** This post was written by Fiona. She no longer blogs for Swatch And Learn. However, Mary still continues to blog and will be happy to reply to your comment. **

Goodness knows that I love me some gloss. But OPI Russian Navy Suede has won my heart! It is a beautiful, deep-sea blue that’s matte. Unlike a shiny finish that catches lights and eyes at every turn, the suede finish is laidback while still demanding attention. It’s crazy, sexy, cool.

I feel like OPI Russian Navy Suede is kind of made for me. I’ve always been attracted to matte shades, and blue’s one of my favorite colors. So how can I resist this beautiful color? I can’t! My expectations were high, and it certainly lived up to them. Continue reading

Orly Space Cadet Swatches & Review

Orly Space Cadet SwatchOrly Space Cadet was the star of the Orly Cosmic FX Collection that I had been lusting after with wild abandon. Now that I’ve got my mitts on it, it’s become one of my prized polish possessions. (Say that tongue twister 3 times fast!)

I love lacquer with an identity crisis. This flickers from pink to gold to green to orange to blue. Every time I move my hand, I see several dramatic colors – it’s like Judy Garland’s singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow on my nails. And even the Wicked Witch of the West doesn’t want Toto – she wants this polish!

If you can’t tell already, I’m smitten with Orly Space Cadet. Let me show you some swatches and fill you in on what I think of the formula itself. Continue reading

Orly Out of This World Swatches & Review

Orly Out of This World SwatchWhen I first heard of Orly Out of This World, the theme song for the old corny TV show of the same name sprung to mind: “Oh would you like to swing on a star? Carry moonbeams home in a jar. And be better off than you are. You could be swingin’ on a star!” (I wonder what ever became of Maureen Flannigan.) Alas, I digress.

Quite simply: this deep purple is crazy sexy! It’s the perfect vampy shade that’s very dark, but won’t look black in the office. It twinkles in the sunlight and it applies like a dream. And for some reason, it reminds me of a magician’s cloak.

Come see my swatches in different lighting and find out why I recommend this to purple fans. Continue reading

Nubar Venetian Collection Vino Swatches & Review

** This post was written by Fiona. She no longer blogs for Swatch And Learn. However, Mary still continues to blog and will be happy to reply to your comment. **

Rich with depth, Nubar Venetian Collection Vino is a reddish purple that’s definitely not flat. While I like this color, I’m definitely not drunken in love with it. There is some interest to it, but it’s not as unique as I like.

Make sure to wear more than 1 coat. A 2nd coat adds that needed dimension and flair to Nubar Vino. And a top coat is needed if you want gloss because Vino doesn’t have much shine. Take a look and tell me what you think. Continue reading

Orly Lunar Eclipse Swatches & Review

Orly Lunar Eclipse SwatchOrly Lunar Eclipse (from the Cosmic FX Collection) is like the femme fatale in film noir. You get mystery, seduction, and beauty.

I’m more a green nail-polish lover, but this is one vibrant blue I absolutely adore! Why? It has personality, depth, and oodles of sparkles.

This is an electric color! It gets your attention without being tacky. It shifts from blue to a slight purple duochrome. And I think it would look fantastic on any skin tone!

Nubar Venetian Glass Collection Verde Swatches

** This post was written by Fiona. She no longer blogs for Swatch And Learn. However, Mary still continues to blog and will be happy to reply to your comment. **

Holy smokes! If you’re into green nail polish, then you’re in for a treat with Nubar Venetian Glass Collection Verde. This nail color has all a base color of olive green, with all sorts of depth to it! One coat gives you rich color, and a second coat adds more of the gold undertone to the shade. So beautiful.

I find the Nubar Verde to have a good consistency. It doesn’t go on as smoothly as other Nubar polishes, but it’s still easy to work with. The only issue I had with it is that the color stained my skin a bit if I don’t clean off the edges quickly. The stain comes right off though when you wash with warm water with soap.
