Let me start off by saying I’m not a licensed beautician or dermatologist. I’m just someone who has always wondered: is toner really necessary? Unfortunately, I don’t have a straight-forward answer, but I do have some information I’d like to share with you. Continue reading

Chapped lips – no one on Earth can pull off this look (except maybe Ms. Jolie…maybe). They look bad, but what’s worse is that they hurt. So I always have lip balm at hand, ready for defense.

I usually use ChapStick; it has good consistency, thickness, moisture and scent. But I thought I’d try something different: Balea Face Lip Balm SPF 30. It costs less, so why not? Sorry to our American friends as this is only available in Canada. But let me just say you’re not missing out. In fact, you’re much better off. Continue reading

Call me Goldilocks if you want, but I think the Sigma Foundation F60 Brush is juuuuuuuuuuuust right. The size, the shape, the density, the stiffness – I think Sigma Makeup hits it out of the park with this one.

Formerly the Sigma Foundation SS190 Brush, this little tool will do more than just give you a flawless complexion. It also helps your foundation supply last longer. Continue reading

OPI Russian Navy Suede Swatches & Review

** This post was written by Fiona. She no longer blogs for Swatch And Learn. However, Mary still continues to blog and will be happy to reply to your comment. **

Goodness knows that I love me some gloss. But OPI Russian Navy Suede has won my heart! It is a beautiful, deep-sea blue that’s matte. Unlike a shiny finish that catches lights and eyes at every turn, the suede finish is laidback while still demanding attention. It’s crazy, sexy, cool.

I feel like OPI Russian Navy Suede is kind of made for me. I’ve always been attracted to matte shades, and blue’s one of my favorite colors. So how can I resist this beautiful color? I can’t! My expectations were high, and it certainly lived up to them. Continue reading

Kat Von D Tattoo Concealer Review – Light

We’ve all been there: waking up in the A.M. with a red blemish that you swear wasn’t there the night before. Good thing someone invented concealers! (Thank you!) I had always used drugstore concealers, but I was seeking something with more staying power.

Then I saw the packaging on the Kat Von D Tattoo Concealer, and like a magnet, I was attracted. Love the gothic-romantic design on the black box! This little concealer ended up setting me back about 3x as much as my previous concealer…so how does it fare? Continue reading

e.l.f. Essentials Concealer Brush Review (e.l.f. Professional Concealer Brush)

My first impression of the e.l.f. Essentials Concealer Brush (formerly the e.l.f. Professional Concealer Brush) is that it’s very, very tiny. The brush head measures about 1/4” lengthwise and just over 1/8” widthwise. I definitely had my doubts as to how effective it is.

Overall, I think it’s an OK brush. But I wouldn’t spend the money on it again, even the $1. Let me tell you why.   Continue reading

L’Oreal HiP Bright Shadow Duo Review – Showy

** This post was written by Fiona. She no longer blogs for Swatch And Learn. However, Mary still continues to blog and will be happy to reply to your comment. **

Ready to pump up the color volume? Then you’re in for a treat with the L’Oreal HiP Bright Shadow Duo in Showy. This duo definitely is intense, and it’s perfect if you’re looking for something that grabs attention.

I personally like more subtle and natural colors, but I also like to punch things up sometimes. And boy, was I knocked out. I wouldn’t wear these shadows for every occasion; they’re just too-in-your-face. They’re fun though! However, I can’t pass this shadow just based on the color. Continue reading
