I have a soft spot for holographic polishes. There’s no such thing as being over-the-top when it comes to them. In fact, the louder they ‘roar’, the more I become like a moth, attracted to the light.
a-england is a brand that’s fairly new to me, so I don’t have many polishes by them. However, I’ve always heard nailphiles rave about them, so I knew they were the real deal!
One of the first shades I added to my stash was a-england Lady of the Lake, which is a rich holographic purple.
I wasn’t able to take any photos in the sunlight, but trust me when I say that you can see the rainbow. However, in my other photos in natural light and with my camera’s flash, you get to see its main personality – it’s awesome!

a-england Lady of the Lake Review
Colour
Before I morphed into a green fiend, I was a total grape head. Yes, purples made my heart race the most, and this shade is exactly the kind I would go nuts over. Actually, I’m still pretty crazy about purples like this, and if you saw my nail-polish collection, you’d see that I have more purple nail polishes compared to any other colour. (Clearly, you can never have too much of a good thing, right?) 😉
The saturated purple isn’t just a standard kind – there seems to be a touch of grey in it, yet it’s still lively (none of that zombie-esque feel).
I love how bold it looks on the nail, and it still makes a statement without being super bright.
Finish
Lady of the Lake by a-england has a fine, scattered, holographic finish that’s very smooth!
When you see it in the sunlight you can see the rainbow on your nails. It’s not the strongest holo, but it’s definitely very noticeable, and it’s one of the better ones.
Application & Formula
So far, all the a-england nail polishes I’ve worn have had absolutely perfect formulas! Colour me impressed because each one applied flawlessly without any effort on my part.
Lady of the Lake by a-england was no exception. It’s very pigmented, so even with one medium coat, I got great coverage (although I continued to apply a 2nd and final coat).
It goes on very smoothly and creamy. I had zero problems with this, and I wish all nail polishes applied so easily like this one!
Value
a-england polishes aren’t cheap. I paid $13.50 CAD, which is more than OPI, which typically runs for $9.95 CAD.
Even though it’s more expensive, I think it’s worth every penny because a-england has very unique shades and exceptional formulas. For me, paying more for a flawless formula rather than paying less for one that needs a lot of babying is the better option.

Final Verdict: 10/10
I am in love with Lady of the Lake by a-england because the perfect formula and awesome shade are a match made in nailphile heaven!
If it’s within your means, I recommend giving this (or any a-england nail polish) a go. It’s impressive how spot-on their shades are, and you can tell that they really put a lot of time and dedication into ensuring that the formulas are of the highest quality.
Have you tried this a-england nail polish? Can you justify a higher price tag for a better formula? What colour group is the most dominant in your nail-polish collection?
Edit: I’m so honoured that a-england retweeted and favourited my blog post, as well as took the time to encourage me! 🙂
A perfect score. It looks lovely on you and it definitely on my which list.
Hey @messy_manis!
This colour sure did knock me off my feet! I love everything about it from the colour to the formula.
Thank you so much! And when you fulfill your wish list, I’m sure you’re going to love it as much as I do!
it looks like a great shade for my toes
Hey Icequeen81!
Yeah, it’d be really cute!
O…M…G… I LOVE this color! 🙂
Another one for my wishlist…
Hey Melissa!
Hehe, how many are on your wishlist now? As a nailphile, it just keeps growing and growing, doesn’t it? Hehe, I understand all too well! 😉 (We’re in it together…hehe!)
For some reason I cannot hear Arthurian references without my mind jumping to Spamalot. So now I have songs from the musical stuck in my head and it’s all your fault 😀
One never forgets their first holo. It’s like a love affair in that way. Mine was Wild At Hear from Color Club, which is actually not too far from this one!

Oooh, yes! I remember the first time I wore Color Club’s Wild at Heart, too! It’s such a stunning, rich purple holo – good choice!
Looks gorgeous on you, Mary and I’m so happy you enjoy this range as much as I do! Since you’re a holo fan, wait until you see Adina’s latest collection! I’ll be posting some swatches soon, but get your wallet ready!
Hey Eugenia!
