L’Oréal Le Vernis à l’Huile Violet de Nuit comes from a new line that launched this month, which features over 20 shades. (A handful of additional colours will be coming out in November 2016.)

The line  boasts the first oil-based nail colour that contains Rose Oil, Lotus Bloom Oil, Camellia Seed Oil, and Argan Oil, all of which help to enhance the colour depth.

The L’Oréal Le Vernis à l’Huile nail polishes come in a unique rectangular bottle with a beveled design that’s aligned with the brand’s elegant branding.

The Flexor brush has wide, rounded bristles, which is particularly handy if you have wide nail beds and want to cover more surface area with a single stroke. (According to the press release, there are 440 soft bristles.)

This sultry deep purple creme was the first of all the L’Oréal Le Vernis à l’Huile nail polishes that I wore as a full manicure.

Here’s what I thought of the colour, formulation, and patented brush.

L’Oréal Le Vernis à l’Huile Violet de Nuit Review

Colour

L’Oréal Le Vernis à l’Huile Violet de Nuit is a dark, red-based purple that never appears black on your nails. (I appreciate this because I have to be in the mood for a near-black polish, and I usually prefer seeing the colour, or I would’ve just reached for a jet black.)

I love how vampy Violet de Nuit is, and it would especially be a great colour in the fall in winter. However, as I always say, wear any colour, no matter what the season. Colour is about self-expression and what makes you happy. Don’t be afraid to experiment with the rainbow!

Finish

Its creme finish is simple yet striking. Paired with this femme fatale purple, the combination is nothing short of elegant and sultry!

When I removed this polish, I didn’t notice any staining of my nails or cuticles. (I did apply a base coat, as usual, but sometimes other polishes that are very saturated can stain. So glad this one didn’t!)

Application & Formula

The creamy formula was a dream to apply, as it went on smoothly and evenly.

Its pigmentation covered a lot of my nails with the initial coat, but I used my usual two coats to get opaque coverage.

Bottle Design

The beveled bottle design makes my heart skip a beat!

It looks like a classy and luxurious nail polish, yet because it’s from the drugstore, it won’t put a dent in your wallet.

Brush

I have skinny fingers, and my nails are narrow in proportion. So, I think that I don’t represent the majority of nail-polish wearers because I’ve heard lots of others say that they prefer wide, large brushes.

For me, I can work with nearly any brush, but if a brush is extra wide, I must be more meticulous with my application, or it can be far too easy to accidentally get polish on my skin.

When I twisted open the cap and looked at the wide brush, I already knew that many of you will love it because it’s very wide and tapered. (From memory, I would say that this brush is wider and flatter than OPI’s Pro-Wide Brush.) If you like painting your whole nail in a single stroke, you will enjoy this brush.

Since my nails are narrow, this flat, extra-wide brush forced me to paint slower. I was still able to achieve my usual results, so I wouldn’t say that it’s a bust.

Also, the way I prefer to polish my nails with several strokes, which is why I can use the brushes by OPI, Essie, China Glaze, etc. without any hiccups.

With a wider brush, it’s a little trickier to go over the same area so many times when you have small, narrow nails. Additionally, because of the width, I wouldn’t be able to comfortably use it to paint my toenails, as my feet as also very small (size 5) and narrow with proportional nails.

Nevertheless, if you have average-sized nails and hands (which is the majority of people), I would still recommend that you try this. I have heard many raves regarding this brush and how it made polishing way faster and easier. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case for me, but I still will enjoy using the polishes. I just need to spend a bit more time and concentration when applying them.

Soft Fragrance

L’Oréal Le Vernis à l’Huile Violet de Nuit and all the colours in the line are supposed to have a delicate fragrance after the polish dries.

I have a sensitive nose, yet I didn’t pick up too much of a scent, however, this could simply be a variable based on which top coat you use. Some are thicker than others. I used Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat, which is known to be extremely thick and also have a smell of its own, which could’ve overpowered that of L’Oréal’s.

The good news is that if you are sensitive to fragrances, don’t worry about this one. It’s not going to hit you like a ton of bricks, and it’s very mild.

(Next time, I’ll try letting the nail polish dry more before my top coat and giving it a sniff, so that I can include that portion in my review. Haha, first time I’ve ever said that I would willing sniff nail polish!) 😉

Even though I found the wide brush challenging to use on my narrow, small nails, I still fell in love with the rich colour and the highly pigmented formula!

If you’re looking for a classy, easy-to-wear dark purple, this one has all the makings of a luxury nail polish, except the price tag will go easy on your wallet.
