“Yellow from the other siiiide. I must’ve called a thousand tiiiimes to tell you I’m sorry for everything that I’ve done. When I call you never seem to be home.”
Oops, that’s not how Adele’s song goes! 😉
It’s no wonder that OPI My Twin Mimmy from the Hello Kitty Collection puts nails in a sunny disposition! The cheerful bright yellow creme nail polish is full of smiles and warmth, but it never veers over into orange-yellow-egg-yolk territory, so it keeps a clean appearance.
Yellow nail polish can scare people away or make them crack an inappropriate jaundice joke. But I embrace a yellow manicure because I think it’s fun, different, and adventurous.
If you tend to steer clear of ‘unconventional’ colours, I still recommend that you try a yellow nail polish at least once, even if it’s just for the weekend. Why? Well, for starters, it’s fun, and besides, if you don’t care for it, the great thing about nail polish is that it’s not permanent. You can easily remove it in seconds.
Let the sunshine in!

OPI My Twin Mimmy Review
Colour
My Twin Mimmy by OPI is a bright Crayola yellow that’s lively and as lighthearted as an episode of Gilmore Girls.
Sporting yellows can be tricky because on some skin tones, they can easily clash. However, if you have a similar skin tone as mine, or if you have a much richer skin tone, I feel that it would be very flattering.
Some yellows can make my nails appear sickly or just ‘off.’ My Twin Mimmy is a clean yellow, so you won’t have to worry about it venturing into the realm of egg yolks and making your fresh manicure look dingy.
I love how this OPI nail polish is unapologetic. It’s a colour that has a strong, polarizing personality. When I’m in the mood for a look-at-me polish that strays from greens and blues, yellow is a prime choice.
Finish
The creme finish doesn’t distract from the loud colour. It puts the yellow on the stage with the spotlight.
When I removed it, it came off quickly and easily, as expected, and I didn’t notice any nail staining. Then again, whenever I wear yellows, reds, or blues, I usually double-up my base coat for added protection.
Application & Formula
If you’ve worn a few (or many) yellow nail polishes, you know that they’re notorious for being streaky and difficult to paint with. In fact, the only yellow I’ve ever found to be streak-free and full coverage with just two coats (and therefore became my Holy Grail yellow) is OPI I Just Can’t Cope-acabana from the Brazil Collection.
My Twin Mimmy by OPI doesn’t knock I Just Can’t Cope-acabana off its pedestal and snatch its crown, unfortunately.
The formula was streaky, however, I was able to even out the finished look with three careful coats.
It’s not a bad yellow. There are a bunch of yellows that are way worse and require four coats to reach streak-free bliss, and some never seem to look even, no matter how many nail-lasagne layers you stack on top of each other.

Final Verdict: 7/10
Had the formula been as epic as OPI I Just Can’t Cope-acabana, it would’ve given it top marks.
The bottom line is that I love the sunny yellow – it’s not too light, and it doesn’t lean on the orange side. It’s bright, and it makes me think of the summer, which is a good thing because I’m getting tired of winter.
Although it’s streaky, it’s still workable. With three coats, I was able to even things out, which is why it gets a good-but-not-incredible score.
Have you ever encountered a one-coat yellow nail polish? How many times (approximately) do you sport yellow nail polish per year?
Such a pretty color, but the 3 coats is a deal breaker for me. Thanks for sharing! It looks great on you!!
Hey Melissa!
I understand. Yellow nail polishes tend to be fussy animals at times. While My Twin Mimmy isn’t a Holy Grail yellow, it’s not the worst I’ve tried. It walks the middle of the road, in terms of the formula. The colour, however, is amazing!
I know it is really bright and so sunny! I might have to get it any way. you know, I think I might have a polish problem. LOL
Hey Melissa!
You may need to put your shades on when wearing it. Haha! (It’s not neon, but yes, it’s so sunny.)
Your nails are absolutely stunning – I need to start applying my nailpolishes with some of those base/top coats you mentioned! I love OPI colours but always found them quite watery so it’s lovely to see that this was only 3 coats! Also how cute are those lids? xx

Hey Caroline!
You are so sweet! Thank you very much for putting a spring in my step with your kind words.
There are dozens of base coats that I’ve tried, and my favourite is OPI Nail Envy, which is a strengthener, but I find it’s amazing as a base coat. (After using the original Nail Envy for a while, it’s important to later switch to the maintenance version. If you stick with the original for too long, you may experience peeling. I didn’t notice it, but some readers mentioned it. The maintenance version is still great!)
By the way, if you want to read a detailed review of the original Nail Envy, here’s the link to mine: http://www.swatchandlearn.com/opi-nail-envy-review/
As for the top coat, I’ve been using Rica Glossy Glam Top Coat and Seche Vite Quick Dry Top Coat interchangeable. Seche dries the fastest, but Rica is Big-3-free, I believe.
