Are you ‘kitten’ me?
The cute nail-polish train keeps on chugging along on the blog with OPI Charmmy & Sugar layered over OPI Look at My Bow!, both of which are from the oh-so-adorable Hello Kitty Collection!
OPI Charmmy & Sugar is what would result from combining Barbie and the Snow Queen…with a little glitter fight in the arts and crafts room.
Sure, you could wear it solo and use multiple coats for better coverage, but I preferred to use one coat over OPI Look at My Bow!, which is the medium pink that I shared in yesterday’s in-depth review.

OPI Charmmy & Sugar Review
Colour
Like frosting that only has a drop of food colour, Charmmy & Sugar by OPI has a tinge of pink. The base colour is also silvery, so you could layer it over a pink (like I did) or another colour. (I’m curious to see what it’d look like over a navy or a green.)
This is the kind of polish that could probably transform a manicure and give it a whole different look, depending on what you layer it over and how many coats you use.
The way I layered it over a pink nail polish, it ended up giving a princess vibe because it still looked pink, but had a frosty touch to it.
Finish
The intense metallic shimmer has an iridescent frosty look that will lighten your base colour, in addition to altering the resulting hue.
There’s also lots of hexagonal glitter in Charmmy & Sugar by OPI, so you get a carnival-esque sprinkle in rainbow shades including blue, pink, orange, yellow, green, and red. These pieces of glitter also reflect the light, so sometimes they give off a metallic silvery-pink, depending on the angle.
Application & Formula
If you want to achieve the bottle colour, you’ll need to use multiple coats and really build it up. If you do so, remember, it’ll also be more challenging to remove later because of the glitter bits.
I chose to use just one coat as a topper over OPI Look at My Bow!, and it was all I needed to get the frosty look.
The formula was easy to apply, and I painted my nails using my typical technique. I didn’t need to dab. However, the multicoloured glitter tended to pile up. It was quick and simple to use the brush to spread them out evenly. No complaints there!
Below is a photo of a swatch on a nail wheel showing two coats, in case you wanted to see the polish on its own without the pink base. (If you like this better, consider layering it over a white or a silver to get a true-to-bottle colour.)

Final Verdict: 7.5/10
Charmmy & Sugar by OPI is super cute, and I like how it’s blingy and can be used in two different ways.
While I prefer to use this as a topper because it’s on the sheer side, I know that many people will want to enjoy the full effect of the glitter.
I really enjoyed how it lightened up the pink base and added a princess-like finish. It’s like winterized nails!
Would you wear (or have you worn) OPI Charmmy & Sugar solo or as a topper? Are there any other shades in the OPI Hello Kitty Collection that you’d like me to review in-depth? If you could create a bonus nail polish for the OPI Hello Kitty collection, what would it look like?
I have this one and I’ve worn it a few times, both on it’s own and as a topper. Very pretty but a pain to remove as it’s glitter. Still a very pretty color! Thanks for sharing!! 🙂
Hey Melissa!
Haha, that’s why I avoided using it on its own. I was scared of the removal process! (But I do make exceptions, as Starry-Eyed for Dear Daniel from the same collection was a total winner when worn solo. The removal was worth it!)
