OPI Make Light of the Situation Swatches & Review (Layered Over Zoya Jace)

OPI Make Light of the Situation Swatches & ReviewOPI Make Light of the Situation from the SoftShades 2015 Collection is an iridescent glitter topper that layers over any colour to give it that ‘Ice Capades’ effect.

At the time, my existing manicure was Zoya Jace, so I experimented by putting one layer on top to see how it would transform the finish.

I like how it lights up a manicure and adds a touch of Snowflake Princess to your nails.

It would look very cute over pinks and icy over blues. And whites would look that much more snow-like. But I’d be curious how it plays with taupes, browns, greys, and oranges.

P.S. The name of the polish appeals to me because it’s part of my life philosophy. No matter how much you struggle with bad apples and no matter how many people you encounter who suffer from the Tall Poppy Syndrome who try to bring you down to their low, bitter level, you have to always find a way to rise above it and to ‘make light of the situation’, whether it’s staying positive or finding the humour in it all. Humour is a great coping mechanism, but it can also help you to thrive!

P.P.S. Anderson Cooper appears in this post!

This is where Anderson Cooper makes an appearance in this post! 🙂

The Mole Anderson Cooper

During the time I was wearing this manicure, I had been binge watching several episodes of the old TV show, The Mole (Season One), which was hosted by Anderson Cooper. As I went to put in the next disc, I noticed that my nails matched the DVD’s cover!

The Mole is nostalgic for me because I remember watching that show when it was on the air. (Season Two, which is called The Next Betrayal, was my favourite, but sadly it’s not available on DVD. Season One is pretty good, and the celebrity season was my least favourite.)

I’ve always wanted to be an international spy, ever since I was a kid.

Reality competition shows like The Mole allow the viewer to play along because there are mental challenges, not just physical and social challenges.

The Mole appeals to me because it’s really exciting to know that there’s a saboteur among the group, yet the identity isn’t known. You have to put together clues to discover who it is.

In theory, I would love to be The Mole, but in reality, I don’t think I’d have what it takes to be so deceptive with people. It would probably make me feel guilty because I pride myself on being honest and genuine. Being true to myself and true to others makes me the happiest, even if unrealistic fantasies of being The Mole exist! 😉

(Haha, and sometimes when I’m at work and a co-worker drops the ball on a project, I can’t help but think, “(S)he’s the Mole!” 😉 Yeah, strange thoughts flow through this mind.)

OPI Make Light of the Situation Review

Colour

Make Light of the Situation by OPI is an iridescent glitter that twinkles all different colours, including orange, purple, silver, blue, green, yellow, and pink.

The base contains fine glitter and some small pieces, so even if you paint just one coat, you get a Winter Wonderland feel without much effort.

It has the tendency to lighten whatever base colour you apply it over, so keep that in mind. (You’re not going to get galaxy nails. You’ll get something more along the lines of Ice Princess.)

Finish

Even without a top coat, the finish of Make Light of the Situation by OPI is very smooth and not scratchy.

While it’s possible that you could layer this to get it opaque with several coats, I would never wear it like that. But, if you want to get that look, I recommend using a white base and then going over with one or two coats of this instead of just applying it solo.

Application & Formula

Application was easy with this polish. The lacquer is full of glitter, but it wasn’t thick, and the polish flowed easily onto each nail. I didn’t have to play with the placement of the glitter. I was able to paint with a traditional technique and get one layer to look even.

Pros

  • Versatile – can be layered over many different base colours
  • Great way to breathe life into your existing manicure
  • Creates an Ice Capades effect on your nails
  • Easy-to-use formula & one coat over your exiting polish is enough to create a ‘frosty’ effect

Cons

  • I consider this to be more of a layering polish than one that’s worn solo. (This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but some might consider it a Con.)

Final Verdict: 8/10

It was fun to wear Make Light of the Situation by OPI over a green. I feel like whenever I see this polish layered, it’s over one of the OPI SoftShades, but rarely green. Hehe, and you know that greens are what make my heart race. Naturally, I had to see how it’d transform my favourite colour!

This polish is great for extending your manicure mileage and for giving your nails that ‘little bit extra’ with more bling.

What would you layer OPI Make Light of the Situation over? Are there any other SoftShades that you’d like to see me review in-depth? Did you ever watch The Mole, the TV show?

Such a pretty color for layering. I can’t wait to see it over a light blue or pink. Very pretty. As always, thanks for sharing! 🙂

      Hey Sasha!

Glad that I could introduce you to The Mole. When it was on the air, none of my friends watched it or even knew about it. They promoted it on TV, but I guess it just wasn’t as popular as other shows. So sad because it was a smart show, and it deserved more recognition!
