The Body Shop Wild Argan Oil Shower Gel is the first shower gel by the brand that I’ve ever tried, so it had a lot to live up to!
Although I have some favourite shower gels, I still like to mix it up and try new ones because variety is the spice of showers…err, I mean life! ๐
I’m already a fan of the benefits of Argan Oil, and the cool thing? The Argan Oil supplier for The Body Shop is Targanine, which is a community fair trade partner.
According to the information that PR was kind enough to send me, Targanine is a “Moroccan Berber women’s cooperative that hand-picks and hand cracks the Argan nuts, which are then pressed into oil. These cooperatives invest in social projects such as school rooms for children and adult learning, creches, doctors’ visit and micro-loan facilities.”
Argan Oil has been used by centuries by the Berber women to protect and nourish their skin and hair from the harsh Saharan winds and smouldering sun. It contains essential fatty acids (including linoleum acid, Omega 6) and natural tocopherols, which is why Argan Oil is sometimes called the “Queen of Oils”.

The Body Shop Wild Argan Oil Shower Gel Review
Fragrance
Whenever I try out a new shower gel, one of the first things I notice is the scent. It doesn’t matter how well a shower gel cleanses if I get a headache from the smell, or it just has a fragrance that doesn’t appeal to me. (My nose is sensitive, and the wrong aroma can be a deal-breaker.)
Even though I’m very picky when it comes to how things smell, The Body Shop Wild Argan Oil Shower Gel not only passed my sniff test, but it passed with flying colours! I’m in love with the soothing and creamy scent!
Sometimes creamy scents can feel very heavy, but I detected a slight bright note (that I can’t quite pinpoint what it is). This coupled with the creaminess blends together for a dreamy combination that I find very relaxing – it’s great for those stressful mornings or nights when you want a few minutes to unwind in a hot shower!
I gravitate toward sweet scents, and The Body Shop Wild Argan Oil Shower Gel has a sweet nuance. It’s definitely not as sweet as candy, but there’s enough to keep it within my comfort zone.
The scent is also soft, so even if you’re sensitive to most fragrances, I don’t think that you’d get a headache from this one. The gentle fragrance is noticeable as you lather up, and it very mildly lingers on your skin. However, it’s nowhere near strong enough to compete with a perfume that you’re wearing. (You’d pretty much have to put your nose directly up against your skin to smell the lingering scent.)
Efficacy
Another important thing I look for in a shower gel is its ability to lather and leave my skin feeling clean. After all, that’s its primary purpose!
The Body Shop Wild Argan Oil Shower Gel lathered up very well, even with just a small amount of product. That’s nice because it means I won’t be using it up too soon.
I use a little squirt of the gel onto my damp mesh sponge, and it lathers easily and quickly!
When I rinsed the shower gel off with water, there wasn’t any uncomfortable residue left behind, yet my skin also didn’t feel dried out. My skin felt slightly moisturized and not tight.
Packaging
When it comes to shower gels, even the prettiest or flashiest packaging never sways me. Sure, it’s nice if there’s a cool design that I can appreciate, but when it comes to any skincare products, their efficacy has much more weight to me than appearances.
(I think it’s because I don’t really “admire” my shower gels. I hop in the shower, often still groggy in the morning, lather up, rinse off, get out, dry myself, and continue with my other morning get-ready rituals. For products like nail polish that I can look at throughout the day, appearance accounts for a lot.)
This shower gel is in a no-nonsense bottle with a flip-up cap. This is pretty standard for shower gels, and I really like this type of packaging because, quite simply, it works!
Community Fair Trade
Aside from the actual shower gel winning high marks in my beauty book, it scores an extra ‘plus’ for an A+ because it has a community fair trade partner, Targanine, a Moroccan cooperative!
Created by women for women, Targanine is a local cooperative, and by purchasing this product, you’ll directly help Berber women!
According to the press release I received from The Body Shop’s PR, buying it from The Body Shop gives Berber women “the ability to provide their family with stable income, while reaping the benefits of kinship of the other women. The cooperatives invest in social projects such as school rooms for children and adult learning, creches, doctors’ visits and micro loan facilities”.

Final Verdict: 10/10
I don’t throw out perfect scores like candy in my reviews, so this is a big deal! When I finish using up this bottle, I’ll definitely be purchasing it.
I have several other items from The Body Shop Argan Oil line, which you’ve seen me showcase in this Instagram photo. Stay tuned for in-depth reviews on a few others that I’ve been testing out simultaneously! ๐
Are you a fan of Argan Oil, too? Is there an Argan Oil beauty product that you recommend I try? What’s your favourite item you’ve ever tried from The Body Shop?
I’ve never tried Argan oil before, but I think I might have to give this shower gel a try.
Usually when I pass the Body Shop store in our town, I walk by without entering because the mixture of smells that come out is enough to give me a headache… but after a 10/10 I guess I have to be brave and at least smell this shower gel myself ๐
