OPI The Power of Pink Swatches & Review (OPI Pink of Hearts 2014)

OPI The Power of Pink Swatches & ReviewOPI The Power of Pink is part of the Breast Cancer Awareness duo in the OPI Pink of Hearts Set for 2014.

The set includes a sparkly nail file decorated with a pink-ribbon charm, as well as two full-size bottles of nail polish: Mod About You (previously reviewed) and The Power of Pink.

Although Mod About You is part of OPI’s classic collection, The Power of Pink is a limited-edition lacquer, so pick up the set this month before it’s too late!

You know that I’m not usually nuts about pink polish, but when glitter is involved and it waves its pom poms at me enthusiastically, I sit up and take note. 🙂 Wearing OPI The Power of Pink is like having a cheer squad on your nails. (Every time I looked down, I smiled because the glitter is so cute!)

Here, I’m wearing just a single coat of OPI The Power of Pink over three coats of OPI Mod About You.

P.S. In case you missed it, I announced my latest worldwide giveaway! Hurry to get your entry in by October 24 for a chance to win the OPI Don’t Speak 18K Gold Top Coat!

OPI The Power of Pink Review

Colour

Although The Power of Pink by OPI is such a fun-loving, girly nail polish with different shades of pink glitter suspended in a milky pink base, I can’t help but associate it with The Exorcist! (Haha, don’t worry – I haven’t lost my marbles. I’m sure I picked all of them up.) 😉

“The Power of Pink” reminds me of when the priest is performing an exorcist in the movie, and he says, “The power of Christ compels you!” Haha, so now that I’ve explained it and put it in context, it makes more sense, right?

If you’re looking for a pink nail polish that’s as sweet as a lollipop and as girly as a bow headband, this is one to put on your list because it’s a pink with a bounce in its step. (I picture it skipping down the sidewalk while humming something upbeat.)

Despite it’s girly sensibility, I think that nailphiles of all ages will enjoy wearing this fun lacquer. That, coupled with the fact that it’s part of a Breast Cancer Awareness set makes it even more appealing!

Finish

Although there are different sizes of hexagonal glitter in The Power of Pink by OPI, I was surprised that the finish wasn’t scratchy. Yes, you can feel some texture, but it wasn’t as textured as what I was expecting. (Plus you can completely eliminate the texture of this polish by applying a thick, shiny top coat.)

Removing it will take more time, but with glitter nail polishes, that’s always part of their ‘fine print’. (Don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time, right?) 😉

I strongly suggest that instead of wearing it solo (although you totally could because the milky/jellyish pink base is buildable), you layer it over a pink base. In this way, it’s not as much of a struggle to remove the glitter when it comes time to switching up your manicure or pedicure, and you also conserve this special limited-edition polish.

Since I was already wearing OPI Mod About You, I decided to freshen up my existing manicure with one coat of OPI The Power of Pink.

Alternatively, if you wear a peelable base coat like OPI Glitter Off! Base Coat, you can add as many layers of heavy glitter as you want, and you can remove it easily.

Since the glitter is pretty dense at just a single coat, I didn’t feel like I needed to add a second one. But when you wear it, remember, you make the rules! 🙂 Nail polish is about having a good time, and it’s not about being rigid and striving for perfection.

Application & Formula

The formula wasn’t thick, so it was easy to apply. However, I can see this polish as being the type to get thicker naturally over time. (You may need to restore its original consistency with a nail-polish thinner in the future.)

You can paint your nails normally with this, but I suggest also use the tip of the brush to push some pieces around to avoid clusters of glitter that could pile up and be bumpy.

I prefer an even dispersal of glitter, so I move the pieces around. It doesn’t take much effort. Literally I use the brush to move the glitter around on my nails for one or two seconds, so don’t worry about spending a long time getting your manicure to ‘look right’.

Limited Edition

This colour is, so far, only available when you purchase the OPI Pink of Hearts 2014 Set, so if you are lemming it, try to get it before October’s over. Afterwards, it’ll be harder to find because it’s a limited edition.

Pros

  • Cute pink with fun glitter
  • Perks up an existing manicure
  • Great for layering
  • Glitter isn’t scratchy

Cons

  • More challenging to remove than a creme polish (because there’s glitter in it)
  • Limited edition (After October, it’ll be harder to find)
  • Available only in the OPI Pink of Hearts 2014 Set

Final Verdict: 8/10

The Power of Pink by OPI is the kind of pink lacquer that I really enjoy wearing because it’s so playful and freshens up a manicure quickly! Also, I like how it’s linked with Breast Cancer Awareness.

Do you collect Breast Cancer Awareness products? Do you like OPI The Power of Pink or OPI Mod About You more? Are you wearing more pink nail polish this month?
