OPI Good Grief! Swatches & Review

OPI Good Grief Swatches & ReviewToday, I’m very excited to share with you OPI Good Grief!, which is a creamy, sunny yellow from the OPI Peanuts Collection coming to stores in September!

Hallowe’en is my favourite holiday, and I have happy associations with Charlie Brown because when I was in grade 3, for summer camp, we performed a play called A Charlie Brown Christmas. (Hehe, yes, it was Christmas in July!)

If you follow me on social media, you saw me post some photos from the OPI Peanuts Collection, and you know that I’m digging the 2 that I’ve worn so far. (Expect reviews on the rest shortly!)

Also, I plan to do a comparison post later because I’m sure a lot of you are curious as to how OPI Good Grief! compares to other yellows. Stay tuned for that, and if there’s a specific yellow that you want me to include in the comparison, leave a comment on this post or let me know on social media. If I have the shade, I’ll include it.

P.S. Remember, you still have until August 15 at 11:59 pm EDT to enter my worldwide giveaway for your chance to win 1 of 4 autographed bottles of Pretty Serious Swatch And Learn, the nail polish I designed! (Yup, there will be FOUR WINNERS!)

OPI Good Grief! Review

Colour

The flash of my camera made the polish appear more orange than it is in person. The natural-light photos portray Good Grief! by OPI more accurately, so please keep that in mind. It’s definitely yellow and not orange!

This sunny yellow was designed to match Charlie Brown’s shirt, and they nailed it! It’s not an anaemic yellow, but it’s also not loud or neon. I found this shade of yellow to be very easy to wear with my skin tone. (Some yellows make my fingers look sickly, but this one was just right!)

It’s interesting how the OPI Peanuts Collection for Hallowe’en 2014 doesn’t include an orange. While I love wearing oranges more during October because it’s a tradition, it’s refreshing to see a colour that isn’t typically associated with Hallowe’en. I love it when companies take risks and think outside the box and outside the trapezoid.

Finish

I just love a creamy yellow nail polish because it’s simple yet adds a punch of colour. This one has zero shimmer or sparkle, but the cheerful hue is enough to pull its own weight and create a fun manicure or pedicure.

Application & Formula

To reach full opacity, I needed to use 3 coats. As with the vast majority of yellow lacquers, the first coat was streaky. The second coat had a little patchiness, and a third coat fixed it.

While I do love this yellow, it’s not the best that I’ve ever worn. (OPI I Just Can’t Cope-acabana is my Holy Grail yellow!)

Also worth noting is that when I finally removed my manicure, I didn’t see any staining. I wear OPI Nail Envy (the original formula) as a base coat, so that helps, too.

Pros

  • Sunny yellow
  • Very creamy
  • Flattering shade that’s bright, but not loud

Cons

  • Needs 3 coats for full coverage (But then again, most yellow polishes need this or even more coats!)

Final Verdict: 9/10

While some people may think that yellow nails are gross, I couldn’t disagree more. I think they’re really fun, and when you find the right yellow that flatters your skin tone, it’s an easy way to add an unexpected colour into your outfit. Plus yellow is such a happy colour that it makes your nails ‘smile’! 😉

Do you wear yellow nail polish? If so, what’s your favourite way to wear it – stamped over, with other nail art, or by itself? What are some other yellow polishes you’d like me to include in my upcoming comparison post?

      Hey Shannon!

Aww, yellows certainly are tricky. Sometimes I’m not even sure which ones I can “pull off”, so I have to try them out. Certain pale ones can make my fingers look alien-esque! Haha, but sometimes I like that! 😉

Hm I think I like ‘I just can’t..’ a little better! That one only needs two coats and this shade is prob. too warm for my skintone. But it does look nice with the glitters and the collection is really cute 🙂

      Hey Renee!

Yes, OPI I Just Can’t Cope-acabana still has my heart. That one is MAGIC – the BEST yellow nail polish I’ve ever worn in terms of its formula!

I think that color would give me the dreaded “corpse nails” LOL but it looks great on you, Mary! I love the Peanuts gang so much that I do want to buy a polish or two from this line. Do you know if OPI will be putting out one of their mini sets? That would be ideal, then I could get all 4 polishes in small sizes.

      Hey Mary!

This yellow is quite saturated and not pale, so it might look better on you than you’d think! 🙂

I’m a fan of yellow polishes, and whenever there’s a new one, I love trying it to see what kind of yellows I can “get away with”. Before I started blogging in 2010, I used to think that I couldn’t wear ANY yellows. That has definitely changed, and I’m glad. The more colour variety, the better!

Yes, there will be an OPI Peanuts mini set with all 4 shades plus nail decals! 🙂

I would like to see how this compares to China Glaze’s Happy Go Lucky. I own both HGL and OPI IJCC, but the fact that this is an actual Peanuts collection and I have a polish addiction that needs to fed, will still have me purchasing this yellow, lol. I do wish there was more of a variety than what’s in the collection.

      Hey Toya!

I’ll look in my stash, but I have a feeling that I unfortunately don’t own the beautiful Happy Go Lucky! (If I do have it, I’ll try to include it in my upcoming yellow comparison post.)

Yes, this collection is small, but the glitters are really fun, so that makes it up for me. Plus the yellow is fun and unexpected for a Hallowe’en collection. I love the twist instead of seeing another typical orange creme.

Hi Mary! How does this shade compare to I Just Can’t Cope-acabana? Since I already have I Just Can’t Cope-acabana, I’m not if I still want to get this if they are similar to each other.

      Hey Ann!

I Just Can’t Cope-acabana is still my favourite yellow over this one. This one is more of a saturated yellow, and although the formula is good, it isn’t jaw-dropping amazing like I Just Can’t Cope-acabana. Plus I Just Can’t Cope-acabana is lighter, so I feel like it can better match more skin tones. (The two nail polishes are different enough, so you could justify owning both.) Hope that helps!
