OPI Push & Pur-Pull Swatches & Review

OPI Push & Pur-Pull Swatches & ReviewToday, I have for you an in-depth review of OPI Push & Pur-Pull, which is from the Neon Collection that I did a Quick Look post on earlier.

Please note that in real life, the polish has a touch more pink undertones than what the bottle pictures might suggest. (I wasn’t able to get spot-on colour accuracy with my camera, and I keep it simple and don’t do colour correction with editing software.)

In the bottle, it looks like an ordinary purple, but I was so happy to see that on the nails, it has a jelly-ish finish for that ‘squishy’ look that’s so cool!

You must wear a top coat to really bring out the outstanding beauty and the jelly-ish finish.

You know, whenever I see purples added to a neon collection, I tend to get very hopeful. But, in actuality, I don’t think there’s such a thing as a true deep neon purple.

OPI Push & Pur-Pull is very pretty, but I definitely don’t consider it to be a retina-burning neon. (Same deal with ‘neon’ blues. They’re often not as bright as their pink, coral, green, and yellow counterparts.)

Key Notes

OPI Push & Pur-Pull Review

Colour

I am over the moon about this kind of rich and vibrant purple! It’s such a stunner, and it’s a bold hue that looks good on virtually everyone!

While it’s not exactly what I would consider to be a bright neon, it sure was a lot of fun to wear, and it really makes your manicure look sharp!

Finish

Push & Pur-Pull by OPI dries down to a satin finish. With this colour, I wasn’t crazy about how it looked on its own, and since it has a jelly-ish look, it’s best worn with a shiny top coat to bring out the beauty.

Also, when you wear a shiny top coat, it conceals any streaks with this polish, so you’ll get a cleaner look.

Application & Formula

The formula went on streaky, but I expected that once I noticed it had a translucent/jelly consistency. When you build up the coats, it gives you greater coverage, but you’ll still have a few subtle streaks. (That’s why I urge you to wear a shiny top coat – it really helps minimize them.)

I felt that at two coats, it didn’t quite look right, so I added a third coat, and then was satisfied with the coverage. I think three coats is pretty average for this type of finish. (I didn’t bother going for a fourth coat because, haha, “ain’t nobody got time fo’ dat”! (Well, sometimes I do, but this time, I didn’t.) 😉

It dries quite quickly, so even though you have to use three coats, you don’t have to wait in between coats.

Pros

  • Gorgeous, vibrant purple
  • Jelly-ish finish
  • Dries quickly
  • Looks insanely shiny once you add a top coat

Cons

  • Dries to a satin finish, which requires a shiny top coat to really make the most of the polish
  • Not actually a retina-burning neon

Final Verdict: 7.5/10

Push & Pur-Pull by OPI is very pretty, and if you love purple, I think you’ll swoon over this. The only drawback is that the formula is a bit streaky and you’ll need to use a shiny top coat to pull out its true beauty, but the streakiness isn’t too bad at three coats.

What’s the brightest neon nail polish you’ve ever worn? Which is your favourite from the OPI Neon Collection? What’s on your nails today?

Not usually a purple person, but this one is really pretty. I did expect it to be more neon, but it’s still a nice color.

    Hi:

I know this is kind of weird hearing from a male on nail polish, but I have non-profit organization who uses OPI nail polish for our community events (kiddie nail spa), and use your website for informational purposes…

The question I have pertains to the new base that they’re promoting that enhances the neon. Does it work for this color, or is it a waste of time/money?

      Hey Raheim!

The OPI Put a Coat On Base Coat just seems like a regular white polish. I only tried it once and didn’t think it was that different or special than a regular white polish. Okay, it was pigmented, but a little streaky. It’s not bad, but it just isn’t something that knocked my socks off.

      Hey Danielle!

I’ve tried using a white base under this polish, and it didn’t boost it to the retina-burning neon that I was hoping it would, unfortunately. 🙁
