Pretty Serious Blue Gums on Boxing Day Swatches & Review

Pretty Serious Blue Gums on Boxing Day Swatches & ReviewPretty Serious Blue Gums on Boxing Day is from the Christmas Without Snow Collection.

The name cracks me up because it conjures up a mental image of chattering teeth on a winter’s day or the way Polar Bear Plunge participants must feel after they jump into the freezing water.

Wikipedia says that a Blue Gum can refer to Eucalyptus in Australia.

Considering that Pretty Serious Cosmetics is an Australian brand, this plant is probably what they’re referring to. Still, I like my idea of chattering teeth because it brings to mind those little wind-up toys that are both amusing and creepy.

Rich green with blue shimmer

Key Notes

Pretty Serious Blue Gums on Boxing Day Review

Colour

You know that I’m a greeeeen fieeend! 😉 So you probably already guessed that I enjoyed wearing this manicure.

Blue Gums on Boxing Day by Pretty Serious is emerald, which is right on trend. Apparently emerald is supposed to be the colour of 2013. (That makes me really happy!)

There’s almost a glaze of blue that you’ll notice in different lighting and when you move your fingers. It gives the overall look a more wintry feel.

Finish

Blue Gums on Boxing Day has a shimmery finish that catches the light and dances with it. This is a polish that doesn’t look flat. It moves as you move!

Application & Formula

The formula was easy to control. I found that it self-levelled very well, which made application a cinch.

The consistency was on the thinner side, so that’s why I used 3 coats. I got great coverage at 2 coats, but I added an extra one because sometimes with thin polishes, Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat can shrink the polish prematurely. An extra coat sometimes helps to avoid that. In this case, even with 3 coats, you’ll notice that I got a bit of tip wear.

Animal-Friendliness

All Pretty Serious nail polishes are 100% vegan and cruelty-free.

Pros

  • Rich green with wintry-blue shimmer
  • Formula is easy to apply & self-levels
  • 100% vegan & cruelty-free
Cons

  • You might experience some shrinkage if you use Seche Vite over this thin polish

Final Verdict: 8/10

Green lovers will enjoy wearing Pretty Serious Blue Gums on Boxing Day. It’s a fun shade that’s full of life and that has an interesting blue that flashes subtly.

This is the type of green that’s totally in my comfort zone. It’s a ‘me’ shade, so it gets 2 thumbs up. 🙂

When you think of Blue Gums, do chattering teeth or eucalyptus spring to mind first? Do you celebrate Boxing Day where you live? What’s the last green nail polish you wore?

      Hey Lizzy!

Okay, so I’m not the only one thinking of chattering teeth. I feel a bit more normal now. 🙂

Yes, it’s amazing how much attention they put into the packaging. I’m saving all the boxes. Actually, I keep the polish in the box and then put it in my Helmer.

      Hey Catherine!

I think it’s because emerald was named the colour of 2013! (YAYYYYY! Hahaha, of course I love that!) I can’t get enough greens.

A heads up from Down Under – a Blue Gum is a kind of eucalyptus which is a native tree. The leaves are a blue green colour and from a distance they give off a bluish haze (see The Blue Mountains)

    Brilliant colour!
