It’s quite comical how often I misread things. My brain must be wired in a weird way to make fun of everything.
There was an advertisement that said something like “IT’S A PARTY!”, and I initially read it as “IT’S A PANTY!” Haha, yeah, completely different meaning!
I had a similar brain fart when reading the OPI Magnetic Holiday Lacquers press release.
One of the magnetic nail polishes is called “Is That Silva?”. Know what I read it as? “Is That Saliva?” Haha! And even now that I know it’s Silva, I keep reading Saliva first.
C’mon, Brain. Work with me! Just because I don’t eat many walnuts doesn’t mean you have to hold a grudge and make me look stupid…
And every single time I see the word Polish (note the capital P), I read it as polish instead. (Once, I got terribly excited when I read a flyer on a bus shelter that began with “Polish”…but then kept reading and it was for Polish-language lessons…I’ve got 99 problems, but a lacquer ain’t one. Hehe! :P)
(I may not even be joking about being wired differently because one of my ex-boyfriends, who is a licensed massage therapist, found out something strange about me. Applying pressure to a certain part of the back creates tension or discomfort in the vast majority of people. But that spot on my back made me giggle because it was very ticklish! He had never come across anyone like that before in his career and concluded that I was ‘wired differently’.)
In other news…come see the press release and get a closer look at the new magnetic polishes from OPI!
P.S. This is the 2nd blog post for today. Check out the other one for a press release on cute mini nail polishes, again from OPI!
Official press release sent to me by OPI PR:
Lacquer with Magnetic Appeal!
OPI Launches Magnetic Holiday Lacquers
Inspired by Skyfall and the James Bond Legacy
OPI celebrates the 50th anniversary of James Bond with the release of three, new magnetic lacquers inspired by the upcoming film Skyfall – the first magnetized colors from OPI. The three hues, gunmetal gray, gold shimmer and rich burgundy, each come with its own unique, specially-designed magnetizer to create striped, diamond or wavy patterns, respectively.
“For the first time OPI is launching magnetized lacquers in honor of our exciting partnership with EON Productions,” said Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director. “Nail design is here to stay, and these limited-edition shades offer a fun, easy way to experiment with lacquer. There are no limits when it comes to having unique, eye-catching nails.”
The three Skyfall Magnetic Lacquer Packs include:
Is That Silva?
Don’t mistake this gunmetal gray for anything else.
A diagonally striped pattern appears with this lacquer.
Bond…James Bond
Be spied in this elegant gold shimmer.
A diamond pattern forms over this shade.
Morning, Moneypenny
You secretly desire this heart-throbbing burgundy.
This lacquer has a dreamy, wave-like pattern.
To use, prep nails like normal, followed by Base Coat and one layer of the magnetic lacquer. Then, apply a second coat of lacquer to the first nail; while still wet, position the finger onto the base of magnetizer placing it down. Press the top down so the magnet rests on the finger above the nail without touching the lacquer. Magnetize for about five seconds for the design to fully develop. Continue this process until all nails are painted and magnetized. Apply Top Coat once nails are dry.
As with all OPI nail lacquers, these magnetic shades inspired by Skyfall contain no DBP, Toluene, or Formaldehyde, and feature OPI’s exclusive ProWide™ Brush for the ultimate in application.
This limited edition promotion will be available beginning October 2012 at Professional Salons and spas, for $21.95 suggested retail for each Nail Lacquer pack, including the magnet.

Have you tried any magnetic nail polishes? (Believe it or not, I don’t own a single one yet!) Which of the 3 shades do you like the most? What do you think about the patterns?
Hmmmm… I’m over the magnetic trend now. I still think it looks cool, but how many magnetic polishes do I really need? I do like Is That Silva? though.
You should definitely try it at least once Mary.

Hey MariJo!
Yes, maybe I’ll try it. Not sure why it was the only big nail trend I never got into…
I’m over the magnetic thing already. I bought two of the Nails Inc magnetics when they first came out, then after the amazement of the effects wore off I was bored with it just like the shatter polishes. I know theres more patterns now, but its not enough to interest me again. Also $21.95 seems crazy expensive to me! I wish OPI would skip all this nonsense and just release Spotted in North America 😛
P.S. I used to have a teacher with the last name Silva and I would always think “Saliva” in my head too. Never said it out loud though haha.

Hey Frosso!
You know, I think that a lot of people are over magnetic nail art because every single brand has come out with their own line. Same with crackle polishes, although people got tired of crackle verrrry quickly.
Still, maybe I should try one magnetic polish just so I can say I participated in that big trend…albeit late. 😉
Oohhh…I hope Spotted comes to North America, too! It’s so unique, and I’ve only ever seen it online.
Hahaha, okay, so it’s not just me who saw ‘Saliva’. 😛 (It would’ve been funny if your teacher had a lisp and spat a bit while she or he spoke.)
Surprised that OPI is getting into the magnetics this late into the game. For me, magnetics are done – over with. I do like the strong design on the newer (also late to the game) magnetics by Nails Inc – but not enough to spend $ on them!
Hey beachgal!
I was also surprised, but since I haven’t even jumped on the magnetic bandwagon…or heck, even touched the bandwagon, magnetics are still ‘new’ to me. It’s the one major nail trend I haven’t tried. Not even sure why…
I never jumped on the bandwagon, either. Not a look I cared for at all and way too much work to achieve.
Hey Gwen!
I need to try it at least once, though. Haha, even if I’m the last nailphile (or one of the last few) to try it. Who knows? Maybe I’ll fall in love with it…
first of all, im glad that opi releases their first magnetic nail polishes. i really wanna buy one of them 🙂 but i dont know which one… i kinda like morning Moneypenny but im not sure if the color isnt too granny like… u know that kind of pinks that grandma’s wearing ? 😀

Hey Randi!
I’ve seen that one you’re interested in, and it certainly isn’t a grandma pink. 🙂 Haha, I know exactly what you mean about some pinks looking like that!
This one actually has little holographic glitter from what I can see in the bottle. I’m hoping to try it out (first time using magnetic polishes EVER!), and after I do, I’ll surely blog about it and include photos and an in-depth review.
I think I’m done with the magnetic stuff for now. Even when it was first out I never really was in love with it. I only have one bottle of the Layla magnetic because I found it for $3.

Hey Kas!
I get where you’re coming from. We’re in the same boat. I think it’s because there are lots of other nail-art techniques (like stamping) that are more intricate, so as a nailphile, I was more into those than the magnetic polishes. However, I do need to try at least one or I can’t call myself a true nailphile. 😛 Hehe!
I actually just bought and tried Bond…James Bond and I do love it. I’ve been using magnetic polish off and on for over a yr now and opi has the best magnet. I only bought it because of the magnet as they are interchangeable with other brands. I’m definitely not over the magnetic trend just yet!
Hey Nicole!
Glad to hear that you’re still enjoying the magnetic trend. 🙂 The OPI magnetic is really interesting, isn’t it? I haven’t seen one shaped like a “U” before. Clever design!
