Zoya DaulΒ is an incredible must-have from the NYFW Collection. If you don’t have a purple with gold like this, you ‘need’ it!
It’s funny, but every single time I see the name Zoya Daul, I immediately think of Indian food.
It’s one of my favourite cuisines to chow down on because it’s filling and incredibly tasty. (Middle Eastern or Mediterranean food would be next.)
It was during the 4 to 5 years when I was a vegetarian that I discovered the joy of eating Indian food. Not sure how I managed to survive without it before!
Yellow dal tarka is one of my favourite dishes. The reason I’m bringing this up (other than the fact that I enjoy rambling occasionally) is that every time I see ‘Daul’, I get a mental image of a piping hot, yummy dish of yellow dal tarka…and I get hungry. Yes, this nail polish makes me hungry. Should I be concerned? π
P.S.Β I anticipated questions about how it compares to OPI It’s My Year, so I included bottle and swatch comparisons to help you decide if you ‘need’ it. π

Zoya Daul Review
Colour
Daul by Zoya has a reflective purple base, and there’s purple and golden glitter. If this polish were a horse, it’d be a show horse that gets the first-place ribbon.
And if this polish were a girl, it would be one decked out in a tutu and tiara, spinning around with a huge grin on her face as she performs a dance in front of relatives.
This polish fights for your undivided attention, but it doesn’t have to fight for long because it’s like the supermodel of polishes.
Finish
It has a glittery finish, but it’s not really rough and sharp like chunky glitter. You can feel some texture, but it’s very mild. And if you wear a top coat (you should!), it becomes even smoother.
Also interesting to note is that I didn’t find myself having to scrub a lot to remove it. It doesn’t remove as easily as a creme polish, but it’s nowhere near the battle like chunky glitter.
Application & Formula
The formula was on the thin and watery side, so the first coat was somewhat sheer and streaky. However, with a second coat, things even out really well.
But I used a third and final coat because I thought that my quick-dry top coat might shrink the polish (and this is the ‘trick’ I use to try to prevent that from happening when it comes to thin polishes).
In this case, it turns out that I probably didn’t need to do this because each coat dried well and didn’t shrink at all. But…better safe than sorry…
How Does It Compare to OPI It’s My Year?
I thought that OPI It’s My Year would be a dead-on dupe, but I was surprised when I put them side-by-side and saw that they weren’t. Click on the above link to view my separate review and swatches on OPI It’s My Year.
Okay, if you don’t have them side-by-side, they look so close that they can be called ‘dupes’. However, when you see them together, you can see that OPI It’s My Year is slightly more pink and Zoya Daul is slightly more purple.
OPI It’s My Year is the purple version of OPI Rally Pretty Pink.
In my opinion, even though there’s a difference between the OPI and the Zoya, I think that if you have one, you don’t necessarily need the other.
They both have a similar formula and reach the same level of opacity with the same number of coats. I think it comes down to whether you want more pink or more purple. (But if you want more pink, go for OPI Rally Pretty Pink instead.) Also, the OPI has the Pro-Wide brush, whereas Zoya has a thinner brush.

Final Verdict: 9.5/10
I really enjoyed wearing this polish, and it was when I had this on that a random guy came up to me and said that he liked my nails! π It’s always great to receive unsolicited compliments – makes you feel like a million bucks.
Do you prefer Zoya Daul, OPI It’s My Year, or do you think they’re similar enough? What glitter polish do you get the most use out of? Do you like Indian food?
Edit:Β Yay! I’m very flattered that Zoya read my polish review and totally understood how “Daul” reminded me of yellow “dal” tarka! π
Another edit:Β So excited that Zoya featured my nails and directly quoted my review on their official blog post, which they tweeted, too! π
I almost got this with the recent bogo from Zoya but opted for Faye instead. I was wondering since I dont know if you have Faye or not, whether this flashes more or less gold than Faye does?
Still debating if I want Daul or not. But I like to tone down Faye with a thin coat of Paloma over it since its got a strong gold shimmer to it. lol. Wondering if the gold in Daul isnt so strong.
π
I have both. Faye is more of a yellow gold on a pinker base. Daul is still a gold, but less yellow and the base color is more purple. I think Faye seems more like a gold glitter with pink base and Daul is more of a purple polish with gold glitter if that makes sense.
Hey Rebecca C!
Thanks for weighing in. I definitely agree that Faye is more pink and Daul is more purple. π
Hey frogcooke!
Hmm…I don’t think I have Faye, but I remember when it was first released, I wanted it so badly!
Zoya Faye is supposed to be really close (or even a dupe) of OPI Rally Pretty Pink (the pink version of OPI It’s My Year or Zoya Daul).
To answer your question, YES, this has just as much gold flashes as Faye from what I can tell. It’s just as strong, too.
I always thought that zoya Faye was a dupe or extremely close to It’s my Year, I had done a post on that a while back, but this is like extremely close !! Craziness

Hey Amanda!
From swatches I’ve seen online, I think that Zoya Faye is supposed to be closer to OPI Rally Pretty Pink (the pink version of OPI It’s my Year). And I think Zoya Daul is closer to OPI It’s My Year. Wow, so many dupes and similar polishes! π Makes it easier for people to get hold of the colour they love, which is nice!
Gold and purple feels so exclusive some how, I like this, it’s not bad at all π
Gelic’ nail art recently posted: Kleancolor – Metallic Black
Hey Gelic’ nail art!
Yes, that combination just seems to go together. Purple is the colour of royalty, and gold, well, goes hand-in-hand with royalty. π
I had the same reaction to Zoya Reva, it made me hungry to look at, like Scrangie said “It’s a strawberry shade… except imagine that instead of seeds, the strawberry is speckled with 24 karat gold.” Every time I wear it I want to munch on my nails, and I’ve never even been a nail biter π
Hey Heidi!
Haha, wonder if the 24 karat gold tastes like strawberry seeds. Only one way to find out…KIDDING! π
I love this color!!!! I can’t believe I dont have a purple polish with gold in it (like this anyway), its so pretty. You always find the best colors!:)

Hey Kelly!
Aww…thanks! But it’s easy when Zoya and other nail-polish companies churn out so many amazing colours! π
This is definitely a must-have…if you don’t already have OPI It’s My Year, of course.
Thank you for the comparison! That was really what I was most interested in. π Thank goodness, I can safely pass on this. I adore It’s My Year, but I certainly don’t need something that already looks way too similar to it. Great review, as always, Mary! π

Hey Carmela!
It’s my pleasure. I knew that my dear readers would be curious if it was a dupe…and, well, I was curious, too!
Yes, I remember way back when I reviewed OPI It’s My Year, you voiced your interest in that polish. Glad that you got hold of it. It’s a real beauty! π
This is a really beautiful polish! I had to go online and order it at once!!
Thank you for a detailed review, it was really inspiring π
Hey Sonja!
Aww…the pleasure is all mine. Thank you so much for your kind words and your appreciation. It means so much, and I find it incredibly flattering. On days like today when I’m feeling mentally exhausted and a little crabby, words of encouragement like yours really make a difference. THANKS! π
P.S. I hope you really love Zoya Daul as much as I do! π
wow, this one is truly gorgeous, love how stand out the gold is.
Jess recently posted: Shadows, duo chromes. & best case ever.
Hey Jess!
It definitely wouldn’t have that Wow Factor if not for the gold. I think a lot of people have fallen in love with this shade. π Zoya knows how to make ’em!
Absolutely gorgeous… I might pass though, because I do have OPI Rally Pretty Pink (even though it doesn’t lean as purple as this one). Aaaaand… now I’m hungry for Indian food. π

Hey The Lacquer Tracker!
More money saved means more money you can put towards other colours. π
Do you have a favourite Indian dish? Aside from yellow dal tarka, I also like chana masala.
Well, I loooove paneer in pretty much any sauce, and butter chicken is always tasty! Oh, and aloo ghobi. Those are my must-haves when I go for Indian food. π
The Lacquer Tracker recently posted: F4 Mint Chocolate Chip
YES – aloo ghobi is another favourite of mine. Yummm!
Thank you for this review! I have been tempted by Zoya Daul but already have It’s My Year. With your comparisons I now know I don’t need Daul so you’ve saved me money π

Hey Theresa!
You’re very welcome – I’m glad that you found it helpful! And even though I like to be a polish enabler, I really enjoy helping people SAVE money, too!
This is really pretty on you, but I’m not a big fan of this finish.
MariJo recently posted: How About Some Polka Dots?
Hey MariJo!
Wow, are you kidding? The finish is what really drove me bonkers! Haha – different strokes (polish strokes) for different folks!
First of all GORGEOUS polish… a purple/gold combo is hard to come by IMO and this is definitely a LOVELY one! How neat when a Company stays in touch with bloggers/ readers π

Hey Marta!
Zoya is one of my favourite polish brands because they really put out all different colours. Plus, I associate them with fashion a lot compared to any of the other popular nail-polish companies. They seem like a really modern, slick team.
I’m new to polish. I recently started collecting, er, I mean, wearing it after a friend got me a bottle of Zoya, and now I’ve gone the predictable route of TOTAL IMMERSION. I can’t find It’s My Year anywhere in stores anymore, but by happy accident, I found that two coats of Faye plus one thin topcoat of Katherine (the purple jelly gloss) makes an amazingly close dupe, and has a wonderfully glassy effect to boot.
Hey sioushi!
Hehe, yes a bottle of Zoya will do that. The brand puts out so many incredible shades, and the variety is enormous! There really is something for everyone.
You know what? When I went to a Winners store, I actually saw OPI It’s My Year…and I hadn’t seen it around for a long while except sometimes in clearance bins.
Glad that you were able to ‘recreate’ the shade you really wanted! Very resourceful!
I LOVE OPI It’s My Year, but it won’t stay on my nails no matter what I do. I have it on right now with a base coat, 3 coats of color and a top coat. My other polishes will last 6 to 7 days with minimal chipping. I have had the OPI on for one day and already it looks rough and I haven’t done much today to make it come off compared to what I normally do on Saturday. Very disappointing so I’m hoping to find something close to the color because it is my fav. Thanks for the review. How does it hold up?
Hey Sonya!
Zoya Daul held up very well, and I remember wearing it for several days without any issues.
As for your trouble with OPI It’s My Year, did you try different combinations of base and top coats? Sometimes they don’t always jive with one another. Also, sometimes if you wait a little while before applying your top coat, that also helps a manicure last (at least that’s the case for me).
