When I first heard of Orly Out of This World, the theme song for the old corny TV show of the same name sprung to mind: “Oh would you like to swing on a star? Carry moonbeams home in a jar. And be better off than you are. You could be swingin’ on a star!” (I wonder what ever became of Maureen Flannigan.) Alas, I digress.

Quite simply: this deep purple is crazy sexy! It’s the perfect vampy shade that’s very dark, but won’t look black in the office. It twinkles in the sunlight and it applies like a dream. And for some reason, it reminds me of a magician’s cloak.

Orly Out of This World Review

One of my pet peeves is near-black nail polish that tends to just look black in most lighting. I don’t want to have to inspect my nails from an inch away, shine the flashlight on it, and really squint to see that the color is not in fact black. (If I wanted to wear black, I would’ve.)

To my delight, Orly Out of This World definitely looks purple even though it’s dark eggplant. When your nails catch the light, you’ll see gorgeous rich shimmer that adds dimension. The only time it’ll look near-black is if you have very dim lighting. This shade is vampy and dramatic, but you can still pull it off without being a goth.

How else can I describe this color? I know – it’s like China Glaze Grape Juice’s older sister! Orly Out of This World is sophisticated while still being edgy. That’s what I really appreciate from this hue – lots of people can rock this jewel tone.

The first coat goes on completely opaque if it’s somewhat thicker than average.  (I used 2 coats because I’m used to it.) And you enjoy a grit-free finish since this dries smooth.

In some dimmer lighting, you can see more of the gold shimmer coming through even though it’s pretty subtle. Check out the above bottle photo to really see the gold.

I’ve worn neon pink polish in the dead of winter and black in the summer. Basically I wear colors that match my mood. But if you’re into doing the seasonal mambo, this color screams fall.
