China Glaze Peachy Keen Swatches & Review

China Glaze Peachy Keen Swatches & ReviewWhile I’ve worn saturated orange polishes before, this is my first peach polish!

I thought that on others, peach looked delicious, but that China Glaze Peachy Keen wouldn’t work with my skintone. So, I didn’t blink an eye at a peach polish.

As a result, that eye became very dry. Mr. Eyeball pulled me aside, gave me a stern lecture about eye functioning, and said that if I don’t blink, he’ll go on strike. He said that he already had the protest sign painted.

Now when I hear about peach polishes, I blink an eye – both of my eyes, simultaneously, just so one doesn’t claim unfair discrimination.

(The last time I had to go into Eyeball Court, the verdict was harsh. I suspect it was because the judge’s name was Iris…) The law is never on my side.

China Glaze Peachy Keen Review

Colour

Peachy Keen by China Glaze is a very interesting colour because it’s like nothing else I own. When you look at it in natural light, it seems to be an obvious pastel peach that has some bite to it. In other words, it doesn’t look like a pale peach that’s going to faint – there’s something robust about it.

In certain artificial lighting, the orange became more vivid. It took me by surprise, and it makes it difficult to categorize the colour. Is it a pastel? Is it stronger? It’s both…at least on my skin tone, it seemed to play tricks on Mr. Eyeball. (Serves him right for being such a Mr. Cranky Pants!)

The flash photos I took bring out the richness of the orange personality. Even to my naked eye, in some low lighting and artificial light, I saw this colour. But during the day, I saw what’s depicted in my natural-light photos.

I have yellow undertones, so maybe this explains why it looks more orange on me than other people I’ve seen sport this shade.

Finish

Peachy Keen by China Glaze is a creme polish, which made it a breeze to remove when I had to say RIP to this manicure.

Application & Formula

Peachy Keen has a great consistency that’s easy to control. And it’s also highly pigmented. Really, you can probably get away with 2 coats.

(I, however, had to use 3 coats to achieve full opacity because my second coat was sloppily applied and there were bald patches as a result.)

Pros

  • Pretty peach that looks different depending on the lighting
  • Creme finish is easy to remove
  • Formula applies well
Cons

  • May be difficult to track down in physical stores (easier to obtain online) because it’s from an older collection – Yes, I’m really reaching here for a Con.

Final Verdict: 9.5/10

China Glaze Peachy Keen was a pleasant surprise, and it has made me wonder how many other peaches I may be able to wear.

Random: When I was a kid, I found my mother’s school yearbook. Nearly everyone in her class who wore glasses had the same thick-frame, Cat-Eye style that was popular back in the day. And I remember reading what someone (not from my mom’s class, but from the graduating class) wrote in part of the published farewell-message section. “Congratulations, keen beaners!” The reason I’m bringing this up is because the name China Glaze Peachy Keen reminds me of that person, and it makes me laugh.

Do you wear peach or orange nail polish? Are you a keen beaner? Do you wear beanie tops with the propellers?

      Hey Kate P!

Thank you so much for saying that! It was a trickier polish to capture than I thought it would be, but it was worth it – just had to share this one with you all. 🙂

      Hey karen!

Hehehe, okay, I will! 😛 Hope I don’t run into her again in Eyeball Court, though. Could be bad. 😉 (Oh no! I just winked…which means I didn’t blink both eyes at the same time. Now I’m in for some trouble…)

Yep, you blinked….now they’ll bring you up on charges of playing favourites and it’ll be back to court you go…LOL

Have you ever noticed that you find yourself skimming over colors that don’t look like something you could wear in the bottle only to find that, more often than not, they look amazing on you once you actually use them? Maybe it isn’t out eyes, but the bottle that causes the confusion. 😛

Do you think I should just bring my sleeping bag with me to Eyeball Court?

I think you’re right – it’s the bottle’s fault! *Points to Mr. Bottle* Looks like a different court trip for me…

Hahaha!! Wow, I love your writing! So funny and interesting! 😀 (What a great way to start the day XD).

This polish looks AMAZING on you!!! I have pink undertones, and I generally stay away from peach-coloured clothes or cosmetics because unless it is a peachy-pink, it looks horrible on me! But wow, this looks so beautiful on you! I may be a little bit jealous ;)!

      Hey Ashesela!

Glad you enjoyed reading what I wrote so much! 🙂 I get a kick out of writing like that. I’m even more passionate about writing than about nail polish (even though I DO love nail polish immensely). So your comment means so much – it made me smile! Thank you!

With pink undertones, you can pull off other colours better than I can with my yellow undertones. So we’re even. 🙂

I don’t have any color like this in my collection. Very tempted to find it and add it but I’m a bit unsure if it would work with my skintone. Looks great on you though!

      Hey PinkGlitter!

It’s one of those iffy colours. In the bottle, I didn’t think it would look good on me because just putting the bottle up to my hand clashed so badly. Don’t know what it is about it, but when the colours actually on the nail, it looks way better.

If you can, try it out. It could surprise you like it did for me. And then it’ll unlock a whole new colour in your nail-polish world! 🙂

      Hey mellinail!

Haha, although sometimes I feel like Mr. Eyeball fights me more than I try to fight him. And he just told me today to stop chopping onions around him. He’s a bit of a ‘tough guy’, and so he doesn’t like to cry in front of others. Pfft – he can’t fool me. I know he’s a softie. He cried while watching Titanic the first time! 😉

You know, I wouldn’t have thought about peach as being a color that would look good on my fair skin, but this is just absolutely lovely! It seems so soft and ladylike. Thanks for sharing!

OH… If I had to be a witness in Eyeball Court I’m afraid I’d be on Mr. Eyeballs side (not for the logistics of his claims per say)… but because thanks to the verdict going in his favour you are sporting a shade you NEED to wear more often!
Wow! Uhm… what do I even say after that!? I agree that this shade goes from soft cream to boom-orange.
(I am better friends with the soft cream when I wear this shade than the in your face ripe-peach) 😉

Hey, uhm… have I said how much I LOVE your writing style?

      Hey Marta!

FINE! Side with Mr. Eyeball! HMPH! Hahahahaha! You’re right, though. If he hadn’t been so hard on me, I would never have worn this lovely shade.

(And thankfully Mr. Eyeball becomes much friendlier when I put glasses over him. Before that, he just isn’t himself and tends to have a completely different view of the world. :P)

Lol, Mr. Eyeball sure knows how to give Mr. Cranky Pants a run for his money! 😉 I’m surprised ever opinionated Cheshire Cat didn’t come out to crash the party.

I’m a sucker for these kinds of peaches but I can never wear them. Like you and your quest to find the perfect wearable pink, I find myself in a similar spot with peach. I’m practically drooling with envy that you can wear this so well! (Oh, a napkin? Why thank you! *wipes*) I recently got hold of a peach with one of the Barielle sets I got so we’ll see how that wears on me. *fingers crossed* Would love to know any other peach polishes that you might think will work for me! Thanks, Mary! 😀

      Hey Carmela!

Oh, the Cheshire Cat just got a cat-nip garden, so he’s almost always ‘tending to’ it. It has softened his demeanour, and now he’s finally paying his human blogging slave (me) my pumpkin-pie payment. 😉 Just don’t tell him that I sent him the garden. Psychology worked!

I’m looking forward to seeing the Barielle peach polish on your lovely nails! 😀 *Crosses fingers, toes, and eyes for you*

Unfortunately, I’ve overlooked peach polishes in the past, so none are coming immediately to mind! But if one does, I’ll be sure to let you know. 🙂

      Hey Marcia!

Thanks! 🙂 I’m really feeling the shorter nails – they look more put-together, but I’m sure I’ll still grow them long again.

Hope this peach polish pleasantly surprises you, too. 🙂

I’ve seen this color at my Sally Beauty and even picked it up to look at it. I hardly wore orange or peach, so I wasn’t sure what to think of it. I thought it was pretty, but I didn’t find myself drooling over it, but I think that’s because I haven’t had the chance to grow a love for those colors. I only have about one in collection and even then, I’ve never used it before. I should probably try it out to see what I think about these shades. It looks great on you! I’m glad you found a shade of peach that you can actually wear. At least I know where to find Peachy Keen if my mind changes.

Yes, since you have a peach polish, might as well give it a go. Who knows? It might start an orange or a peach lemming for you!

Mary, you are so funny!!! I don’t have any peach polishes. Unless you count Essence What Do You Think?. But in my opinion that’s closer to orange than peach.
    This looks lovely on you.

This is a gorgeous color on you! It does look a little orange, but in a very good way and I love how it looks pink-ish in some of the flash pics. I’ve wanted to get Peachy Keen for ages. It’s been on my “to buy” list since last year. I might have to take your advice and order it online 🙁 Don’t think it’s gonna be popping up in any stores. boooo.

      Hey Vivian!

Once I saw it at Winners, but at that store, you can’t always find the same things from day-to-day, so I wouldn’t bank on finding it again.

But at least you can order it online for a decent price instead of having to resort to eBay! 🙂

That’s so funny that you recently reviewed this color… I don’t know how I missed it! I was typing up a post on this same polish and was trying to google when it came out and here is your post! Usually I would see your post, THEN go out and buy a polish but this time it worked the other way around! I really like this polish, too, although with my craptacular camera it makes me have a bit of a case of lobster-hands. 🙁 Not in real life, though, so thank goodness for that! 🙂
